Went to the range today to shoot my 505. Anyway had a few too many click bangs than one would want. Cases are brand new, powder is N165 135 grns of and I'm using cci mag primers. Bullet is a 525 grn. The powder charge practically fills the case so I'm ruling out a flash over. Other than that I'm...
Has anyone got any experience with www.trophyboars.com??? Im considering an Ibex with them but want to see if anyone has used them before??
Many thanks as always
OK Chaps!! Im strongly considering a CZ550 in 458 Lott. The rifle is in a kevlar stock but the dealer also has a few wood stocked 550s. I guess the in-letting etc should be the same so swapping stocks shouldn't be too much hassle. Pls cast a vote and if wont mind pros and cons
Thanks as always...
I have found this on GI https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-for-sale-online/rifles/custom-rifles/-quot-remington-30-express-custom-500-schuler-jeffery-r22409-quot-.cfm?gun_id=101990242
By the looks of it its an old Jeffery barrel on a rem 30 action. I never knew they did this and I never...
Gents as the title would suggest how many of you have hunted with he the above combo?? Im wondering what the terminal effects are like on a buff primarily. Part of me is thinking would an extra 50 grns make that much difference??
Thanks as always

Hi folks,
This might stir up some crap but I saw it on that youtubes the other day.
There are some points that make a little sense but my argument is if you can use a bigger rifle better with practice why not??
Hello fellow hunters and gun nuts!
I was just wondering if someone has a set of 500 jeff dies they can part with? I know im in the UK but you guys can send dies to me just not bullets and brass. Im rather hoping that @colorado might have something being a big advocate of the round.
Thanks as...
I have reached the next step in my big bore quest. Im looking at moving up from a 416 Rigby to a bigger rifle. The rifle in question will be a custom built beast for a big birthday I have coming up.
The cals im thinking are 458 Lott and 500 Jeffery. Brass and dies are a one off purchase that...
Hello chaps!!
This is one for all you Greener nerds out there. Were many made? Is it rare seeing as it has always been an NE and converted from a BPE? Its regulated with a 650grn pill but I think that should be ok for Buff. Anyway we will leave it there for now.
Thanks in advance
I'm considering getting a blaser but cant make my mind up on what stock to get?? I have decided on a synthetic stock for easy of maintenance and I wouldn't mind if it got knocked about a bit. Now the problem lays in do I get a regular stock or the thumb hole type? I will be using it mainly for...
I wasnt too sure where to put this but I though the equipment section was the most relevant.
Anyway I find myself in a position where I can do with the help of a good fowling dog. Where I go waterfowling is a place called The Wash in the UK. Its a mecca of waterfowl with a huge tidal range to...
Hi folks just wondered if anybody has used the above recoil reducer? I would go for an Edwards but im not too sure if I can get them in the UK. Its to go in my 416 double any suggestions or tips are always welcome.
Many thanks in advance
So this summer due to the lock down I was unable to get very far. Being a restless soul I though its time to make a better use of my engineering skills. So I set about some knife making. With this in mind I got some advice from our very own knife making guru @Von Gruff.
I ordered some materials...
Hello all!!
Has anybody got any experience with the stated bullet? Im thinking about reloading it with my 7x64 and just want to get some feelers out there on performance on game. I would be looking at using it on deer in the UK and PG in Africa. I know its an interlocked bullet rather than a...
Alright chaps,
I have been wondering just how relevant the KO values are today given the bullets we use are better than back when Taylor came up with his formula?
Also would a round with a KO value of 48 be a good DG round if the shooter has confidence and ca shoot it rather well?
Many thanks...
Guys there is no sexual connotation to my question. But after handling some of the VC doubles it got me thinking about 500 or even a 577NE. However I have seen in my research that the 416 Rigby (currant double rifle (for those that say you should have a rimed case go screw yourself)) will out...
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I urge you to send a simple email to huntingtrophyconsultation@defra.gov.uk with Supporting option 4 in the subject title. Thats all. If you want to back it up feel free to do so.
The options are as follows;
A ban on the import and export of hunting trophies from...
I wasn't too sure where to post this but this seems as good a place as any.
Some of you may know that I shall be attending the DSC in January. Whilst there I shall be on the hunt for a nice Texan cougar (of the human kind). To this end and having never been to the USA on vacation anyway will...
Hello fellow hunters,
Just enquiring to see if anybody has had experience with swift dip?? I'm considering using them after my hunt in May. Also are there any other firms that can do a nice job of the dip and pack process?
Many thanks
Manish (norfolk shooter)
Hello chaps,
Just wondered would I get away with neck sizing for a double rifle? The calibre is 416 Rigby and before I get people saying that its not a double rifle cartridge it is for me.
Thanks a million

Hello chaps.
Just wondered what the digital copies are like? I only ask as Im in the UK and have an entry and thought that would be a quicker than waiting around. Mind you the thought of one them fancy plaques is appealing.
I was just wondering how often in a charge situation do you need more than 2 shots?? Or have the time to get off more than two? Be honest guys Id love to know.
Im not too sure if you have had this over on your side of the pond but its well worth a view. It also stars our very own @Philip Glass

Hello all I think I may have hit gold with a load for my double. It is crossing over by about half an inch at 25 yrds I'm just wondering if i was to move back to 50 yards would that be corrected?? I'm going to load up some ammo 1 grain +- of the 87.5 of rs70 that got me good results.
Many thanks...
Hello fellow hunters,
Just wondered if anybody has one of the above on a 400 calibre rifle?? If so how does it hold up? Im thinking about one in 3 moa but just want to get some opinions on it.
Many thanks
Hello Gents,
Just wondering if you chaps have a preference of powder for the 416 rigby? I have seen in the shooting the british double rifle that imr 4350 has less felt recoil when used in 416 rigby. Needless to say I'm leaning toward that so I could concentrate on placing the shot where it...
Gentleman allow me present my double rifle. She is a Sabatti 416 rigby extractor regulated with 400grn hornady DG ammo. I’ve not had a chance to shoot her yet but should in a few weeks. Don’t worry I shall be posting targets shot. But for now hear are a few photos.
Gents! Is it safe to use banded bullets such as the barnes in a modern double? Also can you go 10 grns heavier than the regulated bullet? I guess you can if you can push that bullet fast enough.
Thanks chaps
Hello Gents! I remember seeing something about a double ammo holder on the forum at some point but can find it now!! What I'm after is something like this
But for a rifle. I'm rather handy so shout be able to make something. Has any body done this before?
Thanks as ever
Right Im thinking about getting some woodies for the 416 rigby. But how much truth is there about the impact velocity recommendations?? Also how well do they perform? They must be rather good otherwise Norma wouldn't use them.
Right lets say a double is regulated to shoot a 480 grn bullet can you load develop a round to shoot a 500 grn or even a 450?? I've read that you can control the speed of the projectile to get the convergence right. If this is so I might consider a 450 NE 3 1/4!! I did post this on the double...

Many thanks chaps

Hi fellas
I was just looking at getting some opinions. I've been sent the photos of my trophies from the taxidermist in SA and I'm a bit concerned about one of them.
Is this the same animal
As this chap
Whats drawn my attention is the lack off ridges around the base on the finished skull...
I was having a little poke around and came across this http://auctions.holtsauctioneers.com/asp/fullCatalogue.asp?salelot=A0617+++1199+&refno=++113667&saletype=

Guys I was out this afternoon with a friend for a drive in my 1975 Land Rover when I took a hit from the back. The other car (an Audi) got proper ducked up
That's the damage to my landy
And that's the Audi
Right chaps I'm thinking about moving up from my 375 H&H. I'm considering a 416 Rigby what would the rest of you do?? I do need to consider recoil as I'm only 5 ft 2 tall and come in at 65KG so yes I'm small but when I take the 375 out I can get 50-60 rounds accurately down the range before I...
Anyone use the mentioned calibre for long distance work. From what I can see it's much the same as the 284 rem. I might be wrong it's might be the 280 rem
Hello all,
Just to let you know I shall be at the British Shooting show on the 10th and 11th Feb. If you fancy meeting up for a beer and a chat let me know.
Manish aka Norfolk Shooter
Hello all,
I have the above calibre inbound as a semi custom build. The intentions for it are a UK deer rifle as well as a plains game rifle in Africa. I would be loading it with 140 grn bullets and was wondering how effective it will be on the stuff out in Africa?? Last May I took my 375 H&H...
Gents the question has been bothering me for some time. Would it be man enough to take one down at the sort of distance shots are taken out there??
Many thanks
Right guys I have started a just giving page to raise some money for a testicular and prostate cancer charity. For those of you who don't know me I have had my moustache for so long its how I'm know and I think I'm going to miss it somewhat once its gone.
So dig deep and click on...
I have been lucky to find a Heym double for the same price as a new Krieghoff in the UK. The Heym is second hand unused and comes with a scope (I would change the scope anyhow). I was just wondering which of the two would be better in terms of build?? The cal is 375 H&H. Before anybody says it I...
Hi all,
Just wondered if any body would take the above bullet for elephant?? I would prefer the 350grn but Kynoch UK who are the woodliegh importer for me don't have them and don't know when or if they would be getting them in. Also any words on the weldcore bullets would be good too.
Many thanks
