I have owned a few Vanguards and along with My Howa in .375 Ruger they have all been very accurate and reliable. I don't think the Howa or Weatherby Vanguard is available is .375 Ruger any longer. I pretty much agree. Swift is offering DG ammo in .375 Ruger now. I load Barnes and Hammer bullets for my .375 Rugers

Back to my original point, I think the availability of some relatively inexpensive mainstream offerings in .375 Ruger that are available most of the time is a plus for the Ruger caliber. I will admit what a couple of others have alluded too, the Mossbergs probably are not a good choice.

I own two rifles chambered in .375 Ruger. A Ruger M77 African and a Howa 1500. Is either of those good enough or do I need to borrow a rifle from my PH?

My whole point is in the context of this thread .375 Ruger vs HH. Many talk about availability of rifles and ammo being a plus factor for the H&H. I did not read this entire thread so I don't know if it has been discussed. But the truth is to many the thought or even the possibility/ability to buy a 5K rifle is ridiculous. A $500 Mossberg or a $700 Savage in .375 Ruger will get it done. No Cheap .375 HH rifles out there! Awaiting hive...

I have a couple of really good 338-06AI loads worked up using hammer bullets. Just did my accuracy testing this weekend the 186 gr Shock hammer was 1.2 inch average over 10 shots, the 213gr Hammer hunter .7 average over 10 shots! My rifle is a Winchester Mod 70 with a 22in Proof barrel 1/9.4...

I have felt the same way at times. The Hammer bullets are supposed to create more initial shock. We shall see!

I'll get the load data for you when I get home this evening, my rifle is 1 in 14 twist. I will say I am also working with CFE223 with this bullet and it might end up better than the 2000MR. I am pretty much out of room in the case with the 2760fps 2000MR load even though I am not getting...

I recently started working with Hammer bullets in the .35 Whelen. Still working the load but I got 2760fps from a 245gr Shock Hammer using 2000MR.

I buy lots of guns from Lipsey's, its going to be fairly hard to get hold of one of these, they are allocated usually means each salesman just gets one or two. If I can get hold of one or two I'll offer them here. They won't be a easy sell in the store.

I've had the same experience. I have Used ELD-X bullets in 308, 300WM, 7mmRM and 338WM. I have found them to be very accurate. They perform great at moderate velocities, below 2800 fps in my experience. High speed impacts and they blow up. A 230gr ELD-X load is one of favorites for the 338 WM...

That is an interesting point. One of the reasons I shy away from the lighter bullets is the low BCs, I need to get that out of my head, generally not a factor the way I would use the Whelen.

I disagree. I worked up loads for the Whelen with 180gr, 200gr, 225gr and 250gr bullets. The loads that stood out to me in the end were the 250gr Norma Oryx and Speer Hot-Cor at 2630fps. For me that load fills a niche or sweet spot between my standard long action calibers and the belted magnums...

I agree with this. I have a 338-06AI, shooting a 185gr Hornady CX at over 3000fps. That load would work fine for Eland. I think recoil on my .308 with similar weight bullets but over 300fps slower feels sharper, my wife agrees. 6lb vs 8lb rifle.

With CFE 223 I worked up to 64.3gr for 2584fps. I tried 64.8gr got 2598fps but was getting slightly flattened primers. With Alliant 2000-MR I worked up to 65.8gr at 2672fps. I settled on 64.9gr at 2630, more accurate and easier on my brass.

The .375 Ruger, and 416 Ruger for that matter work on standard long actions, no magnum length action needed. That's a big factor for me I like to get old M70s re-barreled.

Yep, I had faster loads but this was the sweet spot. Consistent and accurate.
