thats why I dont like doubles (have one)

I saw this too and thought exactly the same thing. I think it must be very hard for PH's guiding celebrity clients. Also, I'm interested to hear opinions about following up a wounded buffalo from the back of a truck.

    Whitetail deer season 2023-2024

I feel very fortunate to have harvested this buck right at the end of our gun season. The freezer won't be empty after all! Used Norma Whitetail ammo in 300 Win Mag this year for the first time and very happy with the performance.

    M1917 Enfield Rifle Project

I think an interesting side note is that Cogswell considered .404 a large bore rifle, according to the advertisement. This goes against the view that big bores historically started at .450.

I did it! I bit the bullet..,, you wont believe it!

Yeah but are they free range mice or captive bred from PetSmart? I've read of a lot of put and take operations. Are we talking a big hayfield or just an overgrown lawn? Totally different hunting experience imo.

    Wanted Savage Brush Hunter

Hinter: noun 1. One who beats around the bush. b) one who shoots what comes out of the bush that has been beaten around (see Brush Hinter) archaic. still used sporadically on hunting forums. possibly derived from the Old English Hindter (A.D. 985), referring to one who flirts with or has...

    Reloading Addiction Group

Sounds like me. A friend gave me his RCBS reloading outfit. Press, dies, case trimmer, the works, plus powder and primers. Well over $1k of stuff if I had to buy it. I then let it all sit untouched for 18 months. Last night I fired my own handloads for the first time. Three rounds of .30-06...

I really like the idea of two different scopes. I really don't like the idea of two different bullet weights haha.

    Browning Safari Followed Me Home

Nice rifle! Love the old Brownings. What type of oil do you like to finish with? I have used Napier's and Linspeed with good results. Napier's seems to be a harder and glossier finish. Linspeed is quite matte. How about a French red or stain? Thanks for sharing!

    100% Success Rate?

There will always be uncertainty in hunting: nature, Mr. Murphy and human error will see to it! If success is defined as at least one opportunity for an ethical shot at a representative trophy of a given species over the normal number of hunting days for the game and the area, then I feel like...

Hunting SA or "Wild" Africa - Which is Better

I think people should hunt in ways that are legal and that satisfy their personal sense of ethics and aesthetics, at a price they can afford. Let's help one another to choose outfitters, areas and equipment to do just that!

    Survey: Your Favorite .30 Caliber

.300 win mag for me Have come to really appreciate the trajectory of the .300 magnum. Don't really have to think about yardages very much. If it's long enough to really think about bullet drop with a .300 win mag, I probably need to get closer haha. My longest shot on game was about 160 yards...

    Kansas Whitetail

What a magnificent animal! Good for the hunter. What a rush that must have been. She is truly blessed to have taken a trophy like that so young, not least because she can turn her focus to the experience of hunting, and not bother about inches of bone. She's already got that covered!

    Your Favorite Africa Hunting Photo

Obviously not me or my photo, but this pic from the buffalo thread is so awesome and cracks me up. The recovery hasn't even begun but the PH has already opened a cold one and lit a cigarette, because he knows nobody in Africa is going to shoot a better buffalo all year haha. Oh yeah and the...

    2022/23 season

Posted already elsewhere but hope it's OK to add my buck to the list. I shot him this week on our property. Not a monster, but I haven't taken a buck for 10 years so I'm pleased. I have let countless little bucks walk in that time, some bigger than this one, and I decided to cut loose and live a...

    Whisky appreciation

Coincidentally I picked up on a whim a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 on the way back from the deer processor's last night. Never had it before, and usually drink malt whisky, but really liked it! How far do you have to travel to even hunt?

We live on a small farm, about 75 acres, and I hunt whitetails there. We also have an abundance of racoons, squirrels, and wild turkey. I shot a coyote 50 yards from the house, standing on my front sidewalk last year. I know for certain there is a black bear within 1/2 mile of us, but I've never...

    USA: Whitetail Buck

Thank you! I almost let him walk, because there are bigger deer around, but I'm definitely glad I took him. Life is short, and I have let a lot of smaller deer go over the last several years. I like classic shoulder mounts so that's probably the direction I'll go. He was after a hot doe when I...

    USA: Whitetail Buck

    USA: Whitetail Buck

Good point Tundra Tiger! I used my Browning A-Bolt in .300 Win. loaded with 180 gr. Federal Trophy Copper I think right around 3000 fps. I was fortunate to harvest this whitetail buck on our little farm this afternoon.
