No smoking gun, so to speak. Took it to a gunsmith who didn’t see anything obvious. We did bed the action. I also switched to my own hand loads with 258 grain Hammer bullets. No more obvious shifts. I’m taking it to Namibia in two weeks!

Mine is new to me and I will be taking my first trip to Namibia with it in two weeks. I'm just adding some foam rubber sheets around the two rifles in their soft cases. Even without the foam rubber, the rifles and soft cases pretty well fill the case.

No, there are no cracks. I’ll attach more pictures from multiple angles here, that is just woodgrain running parallel to the barrel. I agree that in the picture it gives the impression of a crack but it completely smooth and just a natural grain line of the wood.

No, not on the M85. They are milled to except the dovetailed optilock bases, but to mount a scope you still need bases and rings.

I have one set of 1” extra low optilock rings only.

(1) I may have some optilock rings, but I doubt I have bases. This rifle never had bases of any kind installed on it. I’ll look and follow up (2) No, there are no cracks. Not sure which picture you are referring to.

I just ordered some 220 grain Hammers to work up. I have 258 Hammers for my 9.3 so I figured 245 grain was closer than I needed for variety.

This is my first Ruger, but agree with all you said! My 9.3 is a Sako.

Looks like you need another! This will be my first but will join my 9.3x62.

I gave up on trying to find gloss scopes. I have a couple of nice super grades and some Sako deluxe rifles that unfortunately have to live with matte scopes. Oh well, first world problems, I guess.

They definitely aren’t from a cold barrel. They were shot in a four shot group with less than a minute between shots. Only the first shot of each group was “cold” shot.

No, I didn't dry fire before starting the groups. I will do that going forward. Yes, I need to get out to a longer range that will allow use of sticks. I'll do that some this month. Unfortunately that range is almost 2 hours away vice 20 minutes like the 100 yard bench rest range.

It certainly was worth what I paid, but it was not as good a deal as what was posted would lead you to believe. It was actually ~$2000. Not complaining, just don't want folks thinking there are a bunch out there going for $1300.
