There maybe a couple species like a jackal or baboon that I would shoot off the truck but to me your memories are going to be made on the stalk for the animal. There isn’t really any story to tell if you’re just shooting the animal off the truck. For me, my favorite trophies are the animals I...
Plan to add the kudu. Once you see one you’ll want it for sure. It took all my willpower to not take a second one and really blow past my budget more than i already had.
I went the first week of May to the eastern cape of South Africa last year. I hit the beginning of the rut for kudu, warthog and impala. It was a lot of fun watching these animals in rut and we saw a ton of kudu bulls. Temperature was 45 in the mornings and 75 in the afternoons. No rain while I...
My ph was Don and he was a great guy and an excellent ph. You’d be in great hands with Wik or Collin as well. Everyone was very friendly and they go above and beyond making sure you are enjoying your trip.
If you have any questions about the place I’ll be happy to answer any of them in a pm or...
I went with these guys on my first safari this May. I had a wonderful time and everything was above my expectations. I did a hunt report on it if you’re interested. Do you know who will be your ph when you go?
Glad to hear you’re feeling better. Good luck on your hunt, I’m looking forward to a hunt report. I’m hoping my kids will want to come with me when they get older.
I would stay the night in Johannesburg. Traveling at night in South Africa isn’t the best idea. Also by the time you get your bags and through customs the only thing you’re going to want to do is get a hot shower, a good meal and sleep off the jet lag.
I’ve been taping drywall since high school and will continue until my body can’t do it anymore. The biggest perk of this job is being able to put in ear buds and listen to hunting podcasts all day long.
Welcome to the forum. Would love to hear about that sable hunt and any other animals that you were able to take. I need stories to tide me over until I can get back.
That place is as close as it gets to heaven on earth. Keep the awesome pics coming Wik, it gives me something to look forward to until I can get back there.
I bought a pair of the stable sticks after using some in South Africa. Well worth the money and I liked them a lot better than the tripod I had been practicing on before going over.
If you want to negotiate a price I would think a pm would be more appropriate. Also you may want to double check to see if that website you’re looking at is legit because I’m not seeing anything for less than 7100 and most of those aren’t in stock.
Blue wildebeest lasagna and kudu meatballs were my favorites. All the different tenderloins were excellent and I ate the hell out of their hard sausage appetizer they would set out before dinner.
Colin still guides a bit here and there but he’s been mainly running the butcher shop for the last year I believe. I think it mostly has to do with him recently having a baby. Wik and Don have been doing most of the guiding for the last year.
Congrats on some excellent animals, I really liked the ivory on the kudu and your second warthog looked very nice. Reports like these are my favorite, where not everything goes to plan but yet you battled through the adversity to make the hunt a success.
I hunted there a month ago. The majority of the hunting took place on 3 properties. We hunted the lodge property 2 days and drove an hour for the other 2 properties. What’s nice about the other 2 properties is that they are right across the road from each other. So you could hunt their plains...
I’ve been waiting for this write up, congrats on an excellent hunt. Sounds like you enjoyed hunting with Don as much as I did. He’s a very good PH and a great guy.
Sorry to hear that Doug, get some rest and hope you get to feeling better quickly. I’m excited to read your report and meet up with you and Jeff when you get to feeling better.
I don’t know the plains game included in the Caprivi hunt so I’ll us the Zimbabwe buffalo hunt as my example. That’s still 5000 to 5500 more than a buffalo hunt in SA and that’s before you factor in extra money for travel. The daily rate would be higher to add extra days to that trip also. From...
For me it comes down to the money. If money wasn’t an issue I’d be going to “wild” Africa and hunting dangerous game. Unfortunately it is an issue but thank God there are excellent outfitters in SA that offer large concessions and cater to small groups. I would rather spend more time in SA...
Click on the first post that says pickup and it tells you at the bottom of it that there ffl transfer fee is 50 dollars per item and shipping will be extra.
On my first trip over red lechwe and kudu were my dream animals.
On any future trips kudu, bushbuck and waterbuck would always be on the list.
My if I hit the lottery animals would be leopard behind hounds, buffalo and sable.
Waterbuck wasn’t on my list when I went over but by the second day of seeing them out in the field they went to the top of my list. Impala was an animal I wasn’t too interested in but ended up being a lot of fun to hunt.
For a second trip red hartebeest would be near the top and a steenbok or...
I got mine for 1100 and have shot at least 400 rounds through it. I have not had a single issue with it feeding anything. I’ve been shooting mainly 180 grain out of it and a few 150 grain. I’ve shot Barnes ttsx, a couple of different kinds of federal ammunition and even some cheap herters. Maybe...
I was looking for something similar a little over a year ago and settled on the Sako S20 300 win mag. Mine is setup with the hunter stock and fore grip with the fluted barrel. You can also get a precision stock and fore grip with a heavy barrel or mix and match them to your liking. I don’t shoot...
