9.3 with Lapua Mega 285’s- question

In Europe, the Lapua Mega has a very good reputation especially in 9.3. Used it on roebuck, fallow deer and wild boars. Being one of the harder bullets it delivers clean wound channels on lighter game and opens up quite nice in heavier game. Not being a professional I would say that the farer...

    Anyone use a drilling?

    Need help with a drilling!

Advice from my very experienced gun dealer for test shooting drillings: Load all barrels, let the gun cool down after each shot (roundabout15 mins), rest the forearm circa a hand's width in front of the trigger guard. Hope you enjoy your classic!

Krieghoff Drilling with insert barrels help

Mine is an old (50s) Krieghoff Drilling, 7x65R - 16/70 with a SuB 3-12x50 scope and an insert barrel .22 Hornet. It's a heavy setup! Even without a scope, your Drilling with one or two! inserts won't have the advantages of a good double rifle. A double rifle drilling might be the better choice...

Just for thoughts: a Stutzen is something special. If done tasteful, it's just beautiful! Slim, handy, short and a joy to handle. My Mauser66 Stutzen has a length of 38,5", daughters Model 98 Stutzen is at 40" (98 cm, 104 cm). Your 35 Whelen could be a very nice Stutzen! In Europe, quite a lot...

Thoughts on double rifle training and muscle memory

Just as a side note: I'm using an old Simson/Suhl sxs for shooting clays and hunting. It"s got an english stock and double triggers. So far so good! Got a nice Wingmaster for a very good price, too good to pass. Went to the range, clay shooting. Got all of the clays I did hit with the first...

Mauser -Werke model 66 3 barrel set

Buy it and you'll be done with it! The M66, invented by Gehmann and bought by Mauser, is even sturdier than the M98. It's telescopic receiver makes it a short and handy rifle compared to the classic M98. The M66, the Sauer 80/90 and the Steyr Mannlichers were the best manufacture rifles you...

What have you killed with the 8x57?

Former half stock rifle. After some modifications it turned into a stutzen. Shot everything from hare to wild boars and fallow deer with it. Even some black angus bulls, which were not willing to enter the trailer that should bring them to the butcher.

    Sidearm when rifle hunting?

When hunting by night I often carry Ruger Super Blackhawk (.44 Magnum) or Peters Stahl Multicaliber (.45 ACP). Handling a torch and a revolver/pistol for finishing is easier than with a rifle. Needed it only once years ago.

Nice old drilling and kind of special. You could try to do a research on the subject "Tropendrilling". Some manufacturers build them especially for use in the collonies. The engraving of your drilling seems to fit in this category.

When does your kid start skinning?

At the age of 16 kids in Germany are allowed to absolve their youth hunters exam. From this point on they might go hunting when in company of an experienced adult hunter. No driven hunts. Owning rifles and shotguns when 18 years old, pistols/revolvers from 25 on or with a psychological exam at...
