Congratulations! Need to get that hunt on the books sooner than later. Talked to John Jackson at SCI and desperately would like to take advantage of his knowledge and skillset on getting ivory imported before he decides to hang it up!
Been looking to try a Qsuite myself! Finally, after 15 years and 7 safaris, my wife finally feels comfortable that our kids are old enough for her to join me on a trip to RSA later this year. This will be my 40th birthday and delayed anniversary so I was gladly going to splurge, however, I...
Without having read through the full thread this may have already been suggested.... this was recommended to me by a PH in Zim to use in Tanzania this past year and to say "I was less than confident it would help" is an understatement. After a marauding group of Tsetse flies ate us alive and...
I used Barnes 500GR. TSX out of a 458 Lott in October based on the outfitter recommendation. After 3 Buffaloes in 7 days I will not use anything else. I was traveling with a safari mentor who was use to the old 1 soft and all solid follow up, so he was skeptical at first. After the first bull...
Thanks @Red Leg , it was an incredible hunt and not only did I use the Blaser successfully, it solidified in my mind there is not a better option for the traveling big game hunter!

I am struggling with a very similar issue. I have the Blaser in 458 Lott with a 1x6 Schmidt & Bender and considering adding a 375 H&H barrel to the kit. Conundrum being that unless I am simply on a PG hunt I will want to have the Lott ready to go and when the old adage kicks in that you have to...

We had an amazing hunt and the Blaser proved to be a great choice!

Thanks @Red Leg, the seller is completely open to it being inspected and will offer plenty of time for JJ to thoroughly examine prior to finalizing the purchase.
Thanks @Hunter-Habib, I talked with a pretty famous elephant hunter in Botswana and they constantly over last 20 years had several in camp and were used with great success. I have devised that there is a great deal of polarity of people that love them and people that know they have a bad "rep"...
There seems to be only one other topic that garners such polarity and difference of opinion and that is with saying the word "Blaser"! I get everyone saying get a Heym... would love to but looking at double the price. I have a hard time justifying a double rifle as I am sure it will only be used...
I have recently located a B. Searcy double that checks all boxes for me from caliber, stocking and LOP. I had the seller agree to hold it for me so that I could do some research on Searcy as they, historically over the past two years, have not been a company that I had considered prior as a...
I have had MOTV for a few years but have complained recently as they do not air full seasons of my favorite africa hunting shows. As I have inquired, I was informed that they sensor shows they consider as sensitive content. Ironic since I pay for it specifically to watch hunting??
Glad I can contribute to the addiction that haunts us all! KNS is great and depending on what you're looking for they have an excellent area for anything all over Tanzania. I instantly fell in love with Buffalo hunting and their Kilombero valley concession has some of the best if not best...
Thank you! I am hoping to find myself back there again this coming fall but we'll see if I can convince my buddy to go back. Headed to SCI in a few weeks to try and figure it out. I am finding out that I actually tend to focus more on destination and experience than just quantity of animals to...
We did see lots of elephants everyday. Interestingly enough, the PH told me they do not get big bulls in the valley. Lots of cows and young bulls, that were extremely cheeky, but no big bulls.
Another interesting side note is that every elephant we saw had a stubbed tail, because the...
The idea for this trip began a little over two years ago when a dear friend and mentor had just started talking about the idea of doing a buffalo hunt. I have been fortunate for hunt South Africa over 6 safaris but really wanted to experience a truly wild concession, especially for my first...
Congratulations! Nothing like the anticipation of a first Safari, not to mention a buffalo hunt!
Richard Mullins says it best, "The only man I envy is the man who has not yet been to Africa- for
he has so much to look forward to."
On any dangerous game hunt I would always encourage someone...
I would even be careful with just any taxidermist, they are not all made equal and I would dare say there are a lot more that have never touched a set of tusk than those that have.
Blue wildebeest horns will not be off and are permanently attached to the core like a Cape Buffalo. For permanent attachment use bondo on any other antelope species. Side note… I always spray permethrin in the horns to ensure that any bugs are dispatched prior to attaching.
Met a gentleman at SCI named Francis Lombardi that was taking over the import of VC’s from Ken. He is located in NY and has been a purveyor of fine firearms for many years. You can find him on GI under FOXTROT - Francis Lombardi and try reaching out. Good luck
I have been thrilled with my Blaser thus far. The idea is to add a 375 barrel to the kit, that coupled with my 458 Lott I currently have and looking to add a 450/400 double, and I will have a nice well rounded grab bag for Africa!
I have spent several trips with the Safaris of Graham Jones whose camp is at the base of the Waterberg Mountains.... that place has my heart. Hard to explain being 8000 miles away from NC and immediately feel like you just got home!
Helped my buddy buy his first dangerous game rifle on AH for our upcoming hunt in Tanzania from @Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy . The transaction could not have been more pleasant and helpful! Thanks Daniel, look forward to meeting you in person at DSC this coming year!
I absolutely would love to go every year.... unfortunately it seems like in reality every other year works out to be the norm. As kids get a little older the frequency is likely to increase!
My one and only....... so far.... feels like a lifetime ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. Sure was ecstatic when we walked up on this wide Kudu Bull!
Love that rifle and almost positive I have settled on the caliber as the best suited, well rounded for a double rifle that will see far more plains game annually than buffalo or elephant. Called Chris today to talk about timing... seeing yours Kevin only fuels the fire!
Thought I’d give this a bump to see if anyone received less than desirable news from the tax man, and have decided they want to part with an R8 Selous barrel?
That is an absolutely excellent observation!! It is no longer about the literary value but monetization of a following and likes!
I’m convinced we have a modern day Hemingway, Ruark or even Roosevelt…… you just don’t know who they are because they are not on TikTok or Facebook.
