    Rolex- the stupidest, lamest company

I wanted a Rolex “Bluesy” for a long time. I went to a dealer in Augusta, GA in 2007. They were professional, but also snobby about their watches. I walked away. I went to a dealer in Indiana in 2015. The dealer was friendly but I wasn’t going to go on a waiting list or play any games. I walked...

I misspoke. I should have said they may build one to your specifications. They definitely have 500s back in production.

    Where to next?

I don’t know about the same spot, but I would definitely use the same PH if my previous experience was good. Once I find someone I like, I don’t see any reason to risk changing for someone else, plus you build history together. I’d see if the PH had a gun and was willing to travel!

Wayne LaPierre resigns from the NRA

I know a guy that whenever he gets NRA requests for money, sends back an empty form with the “Wayne’s gotta go!” written on it. He may contribute again now that Wayne IS gone.

Wayne LaPierre resigns from the NRA

https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/05/us/wayne-lapierre-nra-resigns/index.html I’m sure many members in here are also members of the NRA, so I thought might be worth posting. Personally, I say good riddance. Hopefully NRA members will elect someone we can be proud to stand behind (or really someone...

    RWS 9.3x74r Ammo Source

I know I’m going to raise some eyebrows, to say the least, but I would try other brands. You might get lucky and find your gun shoots other ammo well too. My WJ Jeffery 450/400 was regulated with Kynoch ammo back in 1900. I used Hornady and my groupings were excellent.

    Detachable Scope and Airline Travel??

Definitely carry it with you on the plane. However, don’t make the mistake I did. I took the scope off, put it in a soft case in my backpack, carried on Delta, landed and put it on my rifle. I had zeroed it at 100 yards but the range only went out to 50 yards at my hunting lodge. It was high but...

What to pair with a .450/400 3" double?

I was torn between .404 and 450/400 but decided on the 450/400 because I wanted to use a double rifle. I still drool over the 404, but realistically, I doubt I would ever shoot one if I owned one. I hope this helps you understand my case. I have never used a .400 H&H so I can’t provide any help...

What to pair with a .450/400 3" double?

I think it would depend on what you plan to do with it and hunt in the future. If I was to hunt dangerous game and plains game or North American game, I would step down to a 7x57 or 9.3x74R. If I was going to eventually hunt elephant, I’d probably go with a 416 or higher. I LOVE the .404, but I...

Help me figure out a rifle

I would skip the rem mag and go with 7x57 or better yet 7x57R. One shot with my .275 Rigby (7x57) was all that was needed for impala, warthog, sable, and gemsbok...though I admit, I shot at the sable a lot due to my scope being off. lol

Forget Cape Buffalo when we have these monsters at home

I love Bison and would love to hunt...er kill?...one. But it would be NOTHING like hunting Cape Buffalo. Being in Oklahoma, and minutes from the Wichita Wildlife Refuge, I see Bison regularly. They are not even close to being as intimidating or dangerous. Since they now live on mostly open...

Looking for my first "affordable" double in 2023, which to consider

I am not a fan of the Merkels, Krieghoffs, or Blasers. I don't like the form of the Merkels, the feel of the Krigoffs (and their decoking mechanism), or the complexity of the Blasers. Chapuis, Heym (89B), and Verney-Carron get my vote for their classic lines and function. Of course, I won't crap...

    I need help..

Congratulations on your first hunt! If you are SURE you aren't going to hunt dangerous game, I would recommend either the 9.3 or a 7x57. It's much cheaper to shoot (and you can practice more), less punishing on the shoulder, and you can bring more with you to Africa. DG rounds are large and...

Which rifle do we crown as the best looking ever?

Yes, George's patent expired. Bradshaw didn't exactly copy his patent but made his own modifications to what George designed. I haven't held a Hoenig rotary action yet, but the one Bradshaw built was a work of art and amazingly light- around 6 pounds if I remember correctly.

Which rifle do we crown as the best looking ever?

For regular deer hunting rifles, I have always been partial to Steyr Mannlicher Schonauers. But the rotary action of George Hoenig or Bailey Bradshaw are something else.

What’s the best watch to wear on safari?

I think any watch will do. I have a Rolex Submariner "Bluesy" that will be an heirloom for my son one day. I took it on safari without hesitation, just wore a velcro band over it to keep the shine down and protect the face from scratches. Worked well for me and looks good in photos.

Bobs gonna disown me for this one.....

Oh, the .243. Growing up in Southeast GA, it was the white tail king. Still one of my all time favorite calibers. I have had great success with 100 grain Nosler Partitions. My rifle just seemed to like them.

    W.J. Jeffery, Verney-Carron, Krieghoff

I’d be very interested on your impressions regarding the Jeffery. Mine was made in 1900 and it is incredibly accurate for a double rifle. I just point and hit. Mine is a bit tamer as a 450/400 but would love to know about the accuracy you are able to achieve.
