I am currently working out in Hawaii for a few months and decided to stop by the local Tudor dealer. To my great surprise they had just gotten the new Black Bay in.
Couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be the first in the state to own one three days after it came out. It was in the Pacific two...
This just came out a few days ago at Watches and Wonders. Tudor’s new Black Bay. I know people used to say that Tudor is a poor man’s Rolex, but now I think they simply appeal to different markets. A bit like choosing a Lexus or Toyota.
Unlike Rolex you can just walk into a store a buy it. I...
If you don’t want a true dive watch @VertigoBE may I suggest the Tudor Ranger. I think it looks great and is very dependable with a hight level of certification.
I decided I wanted to get a “one watch” some time ago. I have to admit that I put my name down for the Submariner with a dealer last week but didn’t feel great about it.
I really like the look and feel of the older pre ceramic models but getting one second hand is something of a mine field I...
For sale two boxes of 416 Remington Magnum 400 grain Federal trophy bonded bear claw. $215 shipped COUNS.
Sold my 416 and no longer have need of the ammunition.
I think that if you’re talking about a hypothetical of the box situation the win goes to the Winchester. It just works and the action size is suited to the 375.
The CZ is great rifle, but I think it requires a bit of work to really get it there. The CZ is a true magnum double square bridge and...
Thank you @ACM I appreciate that.
@sierraone I could not agree more, that is what drew me to the rifle. I hope that be of the members on AH can have it next to enjoy.
I contacted Winchester and they said it would have come from the factory with the porting. I was worried about it at first but I didn’t notice any additional muzzle blast.
For sale a great condition Winchester Safari Express in 416 Rem built in New Haven in 2001. The rifle has excellent fit and finish with extremely smooth action and (factory) ported barrel. The rifle has been hunted showing typical signs of use.
The scope is a West German Schmidt & Bender 30MM...
I should clarify I was comparing the new (post 2018) Omegas automatic vs the stainless classic submarine/ explorer. Omega (like the rest of the industry) offers a lot of flashy bright watches, those are the ones I tend to see.
I guess l am drawn to the Rolex because of the connection to the SOF community. As a current member of that community I don’t see as many around work as I do the Omegas. Might be because the Omegas are a bit more flashy and in fashion.
Might just save a few more pennies a look for a deal on a...
Something I’ve noticed in this thread as well as elsewhere is a lot of the greatest Rolex stalwarts got their watches 20+ years ago. Would you do the same today given the current market?
Funny this thread should pop up now, only recently started looking at getting a good watch. I spent a lot of time yesterday at a watch dealer trying on second hand Rolex and new Omega. I really like the no date submariner and the explorer, but don’t really see what you’re getting in some...
The spring cleaning continues. For sale a lightly used Aimpoint T-1 with the 2 MOA dot, night vision compatible version. Comes with its original low mount, box and papers. Great condition with some very light ware. My only reason for selling is I have a few of these.
These are the best (in my...
Up for sale REVIC Stabilizer Hunter Tripod. Great bit of kit I bought it planning on doing some long range competition and never used it. Excellent condition with all parts still in the packaging. $400 shipped.

Personally I would consider getting a threaded barrel for my R8 but I’m in no rush. Another advantage to the R8, one can easily go that direction and hunt suppressed without making permanent modifications.
As for sound reduction unless your using subsonic ammunition suppressors are usually just...
I recently watched and episode of Succession (S2 E3) where the billionaire Roy family goes on a driven boar hunt. I found it interesting that all rifles used by the characters were from the Blaser Group. One character even mentioned the brand by name in a way that struck me as clear product...
So I did some thinking and come what may I’ll hang onto it. I talked with the dealer and he begrudgingly said he would take it back but thinking I’ll keep it.
Since I’ll probably be sending it out for more than just the stock work does anyone have any recommendations for a smith, preferably in...
No update as yet. I ended up having to go on a work trip that has taken me half way round the world for a few weeks so it’s a project that will have to wait unfortunately. I really do like the rifle. It was not cheap but well priced and came with some nice glass as you can see.
I will probably...
Thanks all for the input, some good suggestions. It’s probably a simple fix but then again maybe not. I will see what happens I bring it in. The dealer just bought a collection of custom DG rifles, might end up finding something I can’t pass up.
Yea I gave that a shot and no dice, even a little rubber mallet and punch fail the test. I’m concerned that I might break something, especially if there is a hidden repair of some kind.
Sadly I think it will be going back to the dealer. I can’t get the action out of the stock to save my life. An issue I’ve never had before and makes me think glue is somehow involved.
Luckily the dealer is reputable and local and I sure will take it back.
Today I took delivery of a great looking New Haven built Safari Express in 416 Remington that I had been eyeing for over a year. As part of my normal routine with a new rifle I took it apart for a cleaning and inspection and noticed this.
It is what appears to be a very faint hairline crack in...
I’ve been on the lookout for a Highland stalker and contacted the seller minutes after it was posted. The seller was very responsive at first and then radio silence. Now it says sale pending. Oh well, the hunt goes on.
It is my understanding that all three calibers (375, 416, 458) have the same diameter barrel. This has lead some to say the 375 is a bit front heavy and the 458 is a bit light. I would think that you would be able to change stocks between either.
I would recommend the Winchester. They are great rifles in my experience and the 416 is well balanced. In terms of the push feed vs CRF debate it matters less for a client, it’s more important that you can shoot the rifle well.
That being said the 700 in 416 REM in particular gained a...
Can’t go wrong with either, but I would go with the Brit. From what I have been told the 303 got a bad reputation in Africa for wounding game. This was because most people were using military surplus ammunition that was designed to tumble.
With proper bullets the 303 has great sectional...
From what I understand Shelby’s rifle was built by Rigby and went out to Kenya in 416. I guess spur of the moment’s purchase do sometimes work out, that one certainly did for him.
Beautiful rifle, good luck with the sale.
Yes it is. I wanted a 457 and these were the only ones that were available at the I got it. Originally I was not sure about the long barrel, but it gives it a proper weight and the balance with the scope is not bad. It’s also very accurate.
Some time ago I picked up a CZ 457 Jaguar to practice my offhand and off sticks shooting. I have definitely seen a marked improvement in my proficiency. It’s common knowledge that practice with these little guys helps, but I’m still impressed with the results.
That fact that it tips the scale...
Don’t know if you could classify this Rigby SSB as a deal exactly, but I did a little playing around on their site and to have it built would cost north of 30k.
Love the look of it except for the buff, not really my bag...
My understanding is it’s for a #5 barrel contour. I can’t speak to the bottom metal but it was being used in with a Safari Express.

For sale McMillan super grade stock for Winchester Model 70 or Model 70 Safari Express. The stock has the standard LOP with a decelerator pad and is in green. It is in excellent condition, used little. Shipped to your door for $250. If you have any questions let me know.
I dont live in Scotland anymore, but I used to and might have a few suggestions. There are a lot of good historical guided tours of the city including and whisky tours if that interests you. St. Andrews is about an hour and a half north and worth a visit even if you don't play a round, nice...
Up for sale Winchester Safari Express in 375 H&H built in New Haven CT in 2004. Sitting in its original wood stock it comes with additional McMillan “super grade” stock in green. The rifle is in excellent condition, not hunted that I can see, and very accurate. Talley bases currently installed...
I have no personal experience with the issue but I have heard of it on a number of occasions. My understanding is that over time there is a chemical reaction between the different metals in a bullet that can cause it to weaken.
The case I remember most vividly is that a elephant hunt that went...
I saw this pop up this morning, seems like a good price if this is the combo someone is looking for.

Also not intending to hijack the thread but I have owned an R8 and handled a few 404s. For me at least the 404 felt better in the hands and I have strongly considered getting one. But, I have to say that if your going to get a aluminum receiver switch barrel, you really can’t beat that R8.
