Carrying your rifle in the bush

In my case it depends on the specific rifle, terrain and situation. To be honest I switch around all the time, probably not ideal but muzzle control always in mind. I've got good slings, and other average ones that I use less often. Different rifles just carry better in different positions in...

    6.5x55 - 140 Grain Reload Velocity?

With 140gr Gamekings I get 2650fps out of a 20" barrel. Can push it up to 2700, but its my sons hunting rifle and no need for that.

First Safari! Most versatile Plains Game cartridge...

All good choices, probably depends on where in SA you're going. Limpopo - 375, Eastern cape - 300 wm 30.06 good all rounder Also look into 7x57 and 9.3x62 - Africa classics Think of what you will use rifle for afterwards, and availability of components in your area. The 308 win will be...

Who inspired your interest in hunting?

Grew up on a farm but my father never hunted, or took us hunting really. Shot the odd wild animal on the farm, but didn't get into it till I nearly turned 30. Think my son's story will be a bit different , got his first buck this year turning 8.

Info needed - JP Sauer 7x64 build on Mauser action

Yes I did, had two discussions with the store clerk. He cleaned and inspected the bore, no pitting and all seems good. Apparently it didn't work too much, I would want to use it as my go-to hunting rifle for plains game

Info needed - JP Sauer 7x64 build on Mauser action

Unfortunately no further photos but I can ask the seller. Apparently the bore is still good and the rifle has not worked much. I can buy it for the price of lets say a CZ550, I am thinking this will be a bit more special and in a caliber that I want.

    How old is old enough?

My 8yo boy started hunting with a 6.5x55, very good caliber choice and in the right rifle it can last him long. Got my hands on a Savage 99 lever action in 250-3000, hope he can also hunt with that going forward. Will be cool for him and me

    Model 70 in 375 scope

I bought a Leica ER 2.5 - 10 for my 9.3x62. Very impressed and has loads of eye relief, maybe a scope to consider as well

    Model 70 in 375 scope

Newboomer I've got the same scope on my 30-06, love it. But what do you do with the tactical turrets when you carry it, I am always worried that I dial it accidentally

    Wanted 87gr 250-3000 Savage Ammunition

Thanks I will start the search. I am planning to use it as a pig gun. Bushpig hunting around my parts is a thing, because they destroy farmers crops. My sons can also hopefully carry it one day since it's light/ well balanced and no recoil, easy to operate.

    Wanted 87gr 250-3000 Savage Ammunition

Thanks I load myself as well. I am in South Africa which makes things a little more difficult, but I should be good. I received a die set with the rifle so ready to go. Hopefully it will be successful on some pigs in the future. Very few of these around in RSA. Not great for our conditions but...

    Wanted 87gr 250-3000 Savage Ammunition

Thanks I bought a Model 99 takedown model (old version) in 250 Savage today. This is the info I needed, really want to load it 100gr but will see what she does. I've received some bags of brass and a few boxes loaded ammo with the rifle, will see if I can find Sierra Pro Hunters

Posting on an old thread... I am looking at buying a 375 H&H, both the Sako 85 Hunter and Brown bear are rifles that interest me. Difference between the two? Which would be better for hunting Africa, or no difference in terms of field performance? Other options are CZ550 of Winchester Mod 70

Where do you stop with your /06

I started loading 190 gr Kriek Monometal bullets for 30-06 - yet to hunt with them. Will hunt all PG up to eland with this rifle in the bushveld - all shots closer than 200m (if ever that distance)

Velo dog, thanks man I will give a breakdown of what I have hunted with my Howa 6.5x55 on another post. Awesome cartridge and best thing now my son hunts with it as well. Hello, glad to be here!!

Hi everyone I am a 34 year old hunter from South Africa. I am happy to have found this site and am sure that I can learn lots. I have been hunting more and more over the last 5 years (grew up on farm but only shot problem animals), and started reloading last year. My interest in firearms and...

    My first 375

Thanks Hunting Sailor, I have looked at them as well. Ordered a Zastava .22lr from them and will see what the build quality is like when I receive it. But with the 375H&H I would like to get something that I will cherish and hunt with till my old day hopefully, and not wish that I rather spend...

    My first 375

I am also in the market for my first 375 H&H. What rifle will be recommended? In South Africa the CZ 550 has always been the norm and go to rifle for most, but prices have gone up drastically and now almost competes with Sako prices. I also like the Winchester Mod 70, which is in the same price...

    .308 Win vs .260 Rem/6.5 Creedmoor

I bought a 6.5x55 as my first hunting rifle a couple of years ago, it has ever since served me great. But getting to bigger game the 30cal rifles will be a better call for sure. There is a definite difference in recoil which may be the only actual real life advantage of 6.5s here in a hunting...
