I chose the 338 federal in a Ruger Hawkeye for my daughter. A little more punch than the 308 and good ammo available.

I made this choice and choose the 375 Ruger for the down range performance with a huge selection of bullet weights and styles.

I will stick with my 458 win mag. It’s in a o/u double. I shot a kudu at 111 yards and a wart hog at 249 yards last week using 350 grain TSX. These shoot the same point of impact as my 480 grain DGX.

Been there done that. Takes too long in the real hunting world. Know you bullet trajectory and just hunt. From my experience all the additional stuff is fun at the range and for day dreaming. When the hunt comes most if not all goes out the window.

I have flown Windhoek- Johannesburg - Dulles and had my guns and bags checked all the way through. You do have to get approval a head of time to take firearms on Airlink. Gravy’s Travel handled that for me.

Are those Cutting Edge solids safe for a double rifle?

@jenicho my double is regulating with 74 grains so there is no changing the powder charge. It’s also topped with a 2x7 leupold. Did you recover any of the bullets?

Has anyone hunted plains game with Barnes TSX 350 grain bullets from a 458 win mag?

I settled on a Leupold vxii 2x7. I had a gunsmith shape and install Talley bases into the solid rib in a dovetail configuration. It looks great and shoots great. Has anyone used the Barnes 458 cal 350 grain bullet on plains game?

375 will do it. 260 and 300 grain nosler partitions will open up at 500 yards. The 250 tts by Barnes shoots a little flatter. All three group well in my guns.

I got some January 2023. This is January 2024. All good on my end.

We have shot whitetail deer with 300 grain partitions from a 375 H&H. It leaves about a 3 inch exit hole. You might want to shot smaller antelope behind the shoulder to help out your taxidermist.
