Love of Shooting in the Age of the 'Rona and The Big Guy

I'm on the same page as most of yous guys. I'm sitting on plenty of components, but lack faith in being able to replace said components. I too find myself shooting a lot of rimfire just to scratch the itch. Us guys get together every couple of week to send 'em down range at the farm...

    Best options under $1500

If you decide to go the semi-auto route, I too will throw a vote to the Beretta A400 with the kickoff. I have shot one extensively on the trap, skeet, and sporting clay fields and have nothing but accolades to rain down on it. It is far and away the fastest cycling, softest shooting scatter...

3.5 12ga vs big bore rifle

I know I respect the 3-1/2" #4 buck coyote loads coming out of my Benelli as much as I do sending one out of my .416 Rigby. Both will get your attention.

    PROPER Marksmanship Training

Pre-COVID at the club we could buy a box of 12 gauge #8 (Remington STS or Winchester AA) for $7.50 a box (and have reloadable hulls). Now we only have Gun Club, Diana, or Fiocchi for $9 a box (and those hulls are sh*t for reloading). I don't even want to get into the sub-gauge shell prices...

    PROPER Marksmanship Training

Our club here is doing well in regards to the number of shooters (32 trap teams and about 50 league skeet shooters). What I have noticed is that our clay target usage is down. I too have cut back. It would be nothing for me to go out and puff 100 or 125 clays in a morning, but now I cap...

    PROPER Marksmanship Training

Love the thread and the various replies and backgrounds. I would agree that "as a whole" marksmanship has ticked down over the years. I'm not old, but nor am I young (48)...so this isn't some old codger opining about the way things were back in the day. Now that being said, I grew up on a...

Ever check out a Goodwill store? (I got lucky!)

I jump on shopgoodwill.com once in a while and filter by "sporting goods" and "hunting" in the extended search. Good deals can be found there too, but not as often as the Goodwill-like stores that you mention. I totally agree.

Ever check out a Goodwill store? (I got lucky!)

Once in a while I find myself with a couple of extra minutes on my hands and a second hand store in close proximity. I ducked into a Goodwill recently and in the men's section (hanging with the leather belts), I came across a beautiful cobra rifle sling made by the late (and great) Arvo Ojala...

Which rifle do we crown as the best looking ever?

Any factory Mannlicher Schoenauer sporter with a straight bolt handle gets my vote. They are just too damn nimble and handy...and have the lines of a fine woman.

A very ugly high end slug gun

Boy...if you think that's ugly, I've got an H&R Handi-Rifle that you should see. It's uglier than the east end of a horse headed west. In it's defense it is just my truck gun and is chambered in .22-250. She's a shooter though if the nut behind the stock does his part.

    Maybe I'm an idiot, but...

To that point I don't understand red dots or scopes on shotguns either as you are throwing a pattern and not a single projectile. I can see it being an aid to a new shooter for sure, but I still see it as a waste as I've never fanned a shot on a tom in my lifetime. H*ll...they hardly move...
  24. TheSayHeyKid

    Maybe I'm an idiot, but...

Why is it that all shotguns marketed to the turkey hunting crowd all have thumbhole or pistol style grip stocks on them? My logic is that if I can bust a teal flying up the river corridor at break neck speeds and at 40 yards with a traditionally wristed shotgun, I'm pretty d*mn sure I can tip...

    Do I need a 7mm Mag

If you let the .280 Rem go then I'm not sure why you would need to backfill that spot with a 7mm mag, but do what your heart desires. I too have been culling some of my herd. As I've gotten on into my middle years, I have come to appreciate quality over quantity. The 7mm mag hit the bricks...

Heads Up Reloader 15 Powder In Stock

It's funny (not funny) what we were willing to pay when it couldn't be had. I've always been pretty well stocked in both the powder and primer department and always bought in large quantities. That being said, I also work for a refrigeration manufacturer and have a unit that sits in my...

    Overpriced Reloading Components?

I had a couple of old Lee Loaders for .257 Roberts that just sat under my reloading bench for years. I decided to list one on GB just to move it on to someone who might use it. I was hoping to get $50-$60 dollars for it. I just about tipped over when the auction ended at $174! I guess...

    Large Rifle Magnum Primers -Federal

I was able to pick up 1000 Federal 210M last weekend (1 case limit). I had to pay (gulp) $78 for 'em, but from what I've been hearing...that was a pretty good price. I bought 3000 210M just before the pandemic of Wuhan a few years back and only paid $47/1000. Oh how times have changed.

What is the best car you have ever owned?

That's an easy one. I had an 82' Ford Bronco with a straight six and a manual meat grinder. That truck refused to die! It has taken me out west and back, up some gnarly trails, and ate snow like a three year old sitting on his *ss in the front yard during winter. It had rubber floor mats and...

Best bang for buck cheap scopes?

Not that I ever expected to keep a budget scope on my spare whitetail rifle, but once Leupold picked up the Redfield line I grabbed a 3x9-42 Revolution for $200 NIB. My old .257 Roberts has worn that glass ever since. It's shot countless deer over the course of the last decade due in part to...
