I always thought reducing recoil was a side effect of sleds, and the main purpose is to keep your gun absolutely steady for sighting in your glass as precisely as possible. Nothing “sissy” about wanting to make sure your bullet goes exactly where you aim it.

I recently picked up a Steyr Mannlicher Luxus in .375 H&H and absolutely love it. I paid a bit more than your budget, but I’ve seen them go for $1200-$1500 at auction. Maybe worth looking into, though the M70 is also a great choice.

I think you’ll be pleased with it. I picked up a Steyr Mannlicher Luxus in .375 and it’s a brilliant shooter, even being a touch light for the caliber.
