WANTED: Looking For South Africa Hunt For Myself & Two Daughters

There are plenty of great outfitters on this site. I have hunted with Nic Roets with Madala Safaris in South Africa with my 10-year son and it was a wonderful experience. You can find him on the web at Madala Safaris. We hunted in the Limpopo Region, and there aren't lighthouses up there...

Fair Chase hunts in South Africa

There are quite a few outfits that advertise Free Range hunts. A quick Google search will give you a whole page full. I think a lot depends on definitions and semantics. If you drive through a gate and fence to get on the concession, that's your first sign. There is almost always a fence...

    Big Kudu

I saw very large Kudu in the Limpopo region this year. I think at least 2 that were close to or above 60" The ones shot during our hunt were 52". 54" and 57" and were very nice specimens. If someone got a 60" or better, price would have been the same and the PH would have taken more...

Important Changes with Firearm Importation into Namibia

I agree Namibia is easier to enter with the firearms. During my trip it took a very brief stop on the way to collect the other luggage. No real delay at all. Do we know if this change is the beginning of more restrictions or just a small housekeeping matter?

SOUTH AFRICA: Excellent Hunt with MADALA SAFARIS

Yes. I had wanted to take the Hartebeest with a handgun, but the conditions weren't right. I am waiting on the SCI measurements, but the PH and local taxidermist have it at 70" so I am pretty pleased. Regardless of size, it was an awfully fun hunt!

Is it taboo to hunt White Lion

Just got back last week from taking my 10-year on his first hunt. He shot 2 from natural concealment, and 2 from man made concealment. I have NO problem with that. Canned hunt versus free range is a very useful debate. I worry though that hunting is starting to vanish...more rapidly than I...

SOUTH AFRICA: Excellent Hunt with MADALA SAFARIS

I just returned from a "Father - Son" hunt pacakage with Madala Safaris. By far, the best outing I have ever had in Africa. This was my third trip, and I brought my 10-year son and 69-year old father along (he observed). It was a great trip. I founnd Nic Roets through an internet search. I...

    .454 bullet selection

I have shot the 454 and now hunt with the S&W 500. I second the thoughts about the Hornady factory rounds in 300 gr. Very good for these big-bore hand cannons.

    32 days left!!!

My wife decided to pass on a trip this year. I am going in with just my son. If my wife did go, I was going to make sure I had a rifle she could use. When I was in Namibia the PH told use stories of wives who would get the bug and then shoot on the 5th or 6th day and take huge trophies...

    CANADA CUSTOMS INCINERATES TROPHIES

I agree with gillettehunter that collection on a judgment is the hard part - and the part that may deter future conduct. For American Hunters, the key is know if your amounts in controversy are enough to trigger Federal Court jurisdiction. Nothing says "oh crap" like the US Marshals Service...

What is Put & Take Shooting?

It is absolutely up to each hunter to set their ethical compass on how/what/where thery are going to hunt. I think everyone agrees we must all treat the game ethically and take the animals in a swift and sure manner. How we get to the animals is the debate. From my own perspective I think...

For those that have hunted south africa and namibia

Namibia is great. It has a more "remote" feel than South Africa. Not so many cell phones and signs of civilization. I hunted in the northern part of Namibia and would go back in a heartbeat. It is far and away better than the Eastern Cape of South Africa. But, the trip is longer and if you...

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Kuvhima Safaris

    Limpopo this 2012 hunting season

I'm taking my son to Safari this August in the Limpopo. Wondering if anyone had a scouting report? We're looking for Kudu, Blue Wildebeest and some smaller plains game. A buddy of mine went to Nambia a few years back only to find out the Kudu herds had been decimated by disease in the...

    405 Rhino poached .. sad !

Shoot on sight would definitely get a jump on the problem. The Asian markets for rhino horn aren't going to be taken care of. It will have to be on the supply side.

Would it be a problem taking a rifle with a stainless barrel to Africa?

Hunted Namibia with a .338 McMillan with synthetic stock and stainless barrel. No problems at all. Gun was amazing. Was pleased with the weight as there were some very grueling spot and stalks.

Planning my first hunt in Africa

South Africa is malaria free and easy to get around in. You can make in 6 months. Basics are probably taken care of, but get the Passport. If you are taking your own weapons, make sure you review the paperwork from your outfitter about getting the weapons in. Using thier guns can be an...
