    Boeing Aircraft

Sorry, but when Volkswagen had to pay $2.8 billion for cheating US emmission tests (in summery more than 25 billion) the 1 Billion for killing people look like a bargain. If they would be treated like Volkswagen they would need to pay Trillions.

Is Blaser Trying To Price Themselves Out Of The American Market???

As this being an R8 conversation: please note that even though in Europe (Blaser being a German company) many people are ordering a threaded barrel this always comes with a premium to a non-threaded one as it adds additional costs (not only threading the barrel but you need to proof the barrels...

Is Blaser Trying To Price Themselves Out Of The American Market???

There are many countries in Africa where surpressors are not allowed with Namibia and South Africa being an exception. This is something which could be added to the "Hunting info by country" section of this forum by the way.

    Reloading 9.3x64

I had no problem getting an accurate load with Swift A-Frames (286gr) in combination with RS60. When using either GRT or Quickload velocity was underestimated. Both assume the initial pressure being very high (750 bar). Reducing initial pressure to 250 bar gave much better results. After talking...

Would you give up a 100 pounder if asked to?

I would not hunt there. If it's for the thrill of the hunt only there are a lot of areas which will never deliver a 100 pounder and usually these areas are cheaper. So I would hunt there. Those areas where a 100 pounder can be found are more expensive and I would think that looking for that...

Body Shots On Elephant (Does Caliber Really Matter?)

Only taking energy or impuls into consideration is insufficient. Otherwise armies would not have made armor piercing ammunition by using hard metalls in the same calibre but would have always used longer, heavier bullets. The principle process is that the bullet will slow down in a media. If a...

Blaser R8 - Why do African PH’s and Alaskan Bear Guides Choose Not To Use Blaser R8’s?

For those who can decide which of them they'll pick price is not the reason. How many will that be? 20% of all PH's or even less? Heym's 89 DR PH version: 13500,-€ Blaser R8 Profession Hunter (.416 rem, mag.): 6785,-€, both including 19% VAT.

Blaser R8 - Why do African PH’s and Alaskan Bear Guides Choose Not To Use Blaser R8’s?

Heym's PH version is still (way) more expensive than the Blaser R8 (pricelist without discount) so this is not a reasonable argument.

Rigby / Holland & Holland / Westley Richards

As Verney-Carron doesn't make any rifles with Mauser actions (at least I haven't found any on their homepage): nowhere
  26. C

Rigby / Holland & Holland / Westley Richards

You mean the Mauser action which is used by Mauser and Rigby? No. Would not really support their business. You usually earn more with wall to wall margins instead of selling components and I think they understood the same.
  27. C

Rigby / Holland & Holland / Westley Richards

Concerning machining: this is not so special. Others don't show you all details of manufacturing but if someone makes a Mauser action to original design specifications it will always look the same. Some notes: One shortcoming of the original design is that you can only load cartridges from the...

Rigby / Holland & Holland / Westley Richards

Forgot mentioning Prechtl and and the obvious Mauser (who sourced their actions from Prechtl before making them by themselves again). Rigby / Holland & Holland / Westley Richards

It should be mentioned that the actions are not necessarily made from the same steel. There are...

Rigby / Holland & Holland / Westley Richards

Heym has a smoother action than Rigby and the original Mauser (both have a .416 Rigby). Compared them at a fair. Another option might be Prechtl. They make the actions with some improvements compared to the original design. https://www.prechtl-waffen.de/system-mauser-m98-cat285.html.

    9.3x62 vs 375H&H

Faster is in most cases not better on big game. There's a reason for 2400fps as being a recommended velocity. Best case the bullet will open more but due to more frontal area it'll penetrate less (same initial SD and bullet constrution). The difference in diameter is negligible.

    More thoughts on 9.3x64

Hmm there's a certain difference between a 9,3x74R and a 9,3x64. While I would assume a 9,3x64 chambering being really unique but the 9,3x74R being pretty common.

    More thoughts on 9.3x64

Very beautiful rifle. Did you shoot it already? I would assume not being the heaviest one and the scope seems to have an iron ocular. A combination which could be very lively in 9,3x64 and you might have some "proof marks" after shooting it on your eyes ;). Might make sense shooting it first...

    Transitioning To A Blaser R8 - A Two Months / 500 Rounds Review

Not a real exeption if you know the history. The early ages of nitro cartridges were unsettled and partially mixed with approaches of describing calibres from the black powder ages. In some areas even the metric system was not fully established and the imperial system had differences in real...

    Transitioning To A Blaser R8 - A Two Months / 500 Rounds Review

Concerning metric namings: Bullet diameter = groove diameter of a barrel -0,1mm (usually). Using the bullet diameter is the imperial/SAAMI way of naming calibres. Within the metric approach it's almost always the lands diameter (F) of a barrel which is used for naming calibres. Background is...

    Transitioning To A Blaser R8 - A Two Months / 500 Rounds Review

Well, close. Transferring the .257 Wby to a metric rating it would be a 6,35mm Wby or 6,35 x 56,7 mm. If your buddies don't know the difference, yes you joint the 6,5mm club.
  40. C

    Transitioning To A Blaser R8 - A Two Months / 500 Rounds Review

There's a misunderstanding. While (almost) every metric calibre is rated by the lands' diameter the imperial approach is rating the calibre by the grooves' diameter. That's the reason why both dimensions usually don't match. One of the few exceptions is the 9,3 calibre group.

    Hunting Europe

The latter and a different system. Land is leased to a hunter over time which is usually about 9 years and the game shot belongs to him. If you compare population density you get an idea of the difference: USA: 33people/km² vs. Germany 233/km². Lots of roads, cities which reduce potential...

    375 H&H. Nosler Accubond 260Gr, VihtaVuori N540

    Are you sure? Load density 99% (71.75gr), chamber pressure 4240bar (61500PSI), OAL 91,44mm (3,6") = 829m/s (2720 fps) and 5790J (4271 ft-lbs). I would say it's close to optimum.

    Pressure vs Velocity

I made a comparison for the .458 Lott with N140, N540 and N550 and Swift A-Frame 450gr. All optimized to max. pressure. The differences in energy were quite significant! While N140 delivered "only" about 7100J (700m/s), N540 was about 7700J and N550 about 8100J (745 m/s). Load density of 88%...
  46. C

    Pressure vs Velocity

Not really ;). The energy transferred to a bullet is the integral of the pressure over barreltime. An exaggerated comparison would be a flat line and an exponential function of pressure where the final pressure at the end of barrel is the same. Energy would be the area under the curve if bullet...

Infections on the Rise, Johannesburg Mayor Dies: Virus Update

Need advice - mountain calibre for single shot rifle

My vote for the 7x65R as well. Currently driving a monolithic 9g (140gr) bullet with a BC of 0,43 at about 910m/s (3000fps). Don't know why this shouldn't be suitable for hunting in the mountains. This cartridge, like some other old continental cartridges has the advantage of having a long...
