It is a great event. I try to go every year but can't make it this year. Will be chasing nilgai in South Texas with a big bore though, so good excuse.
If you can make it, register now and do it. It's a blast.
This is a bit late, but I am posting these for grabs as thanks for some dies I received (thanks again @Rob404 ).
These rings have been mounted on a gun and used for a while but are in great shape. Not sure when I lost a screw but it never affected the zero.
Keep an eye on GI too - an ad popped up last week with 100 handloads, virgin brass, and dies for a steal. Was gone the next day.
Good luck! It's an intriguing cartridge.
Great thread - really enjoyed convention this year and getting to meet a few of you in person.
I booked my buffalo hunt with Dries van Coller next year and bought @Sue Tidwell 's book. Bailey's work is calling me too - I'll second everyone's thoughts on him as a person and gunmaker...
Great thread - I thought about starting something similar a while back during the Chinese year of the Ox. Seemed fitting.
@Green Chile have you read Horned Giants by Brandt? I recently picked up a copy I have yet to read. He attempts to cover the topic exhaustively.
I have no real experience...
Firstly, you're going to enjoy the DSC convention - it's a fantastic experience even if a bit overwhelming.
You're getting great advice here and will continue to get more. My only addition would be to echo the comments to take your time and do your research. That makes it more likely that...
Thanks, Mark!
I'll be at the DSC convention the for the full show. Would love to meet up and swap some stories over a drink if you've got time. I'll text you.
Don't know how I missed this earlier.
Man...that...sounds...AMAZING! Would love to join but am already committed downtown (going to the banquets again this year).
I am game for a meet up at the convention center or thereabout if anyone else is game. I know that AH has the dinner but I can't...
Lowering prices to help you finish out your Christmas shopping - even if the gift is for yourself :).

#4 and 5 sold and shipped. #2, 3, and 9 are also taken.
The rest are still available. I looked up prices on other websites and matched or beat what I found. Open to offers as well. Going to the deer camp for a few days so responses may be delayed.
I'm making some space in the library and thought I'd offer these here. All books are used except where noted.

Thanks for the link - man these brass bits expensive! Luckily, it came with 50 proper headstamped pieces and RCBS dies. I'll make the rest from 30-06 brass.
Since this thread has come back to life, I realize that I never updated the group. Did end up getting one: mine's not a pre-war model, but I think I should get partial credit. It's a Ken Owen built custom on a 1909 Argentine Mauser action.
I have this copy and agree that it is an excellent philosophical reflection on hunting.
"One does not hunt to kill, one kills to have hunted." Participating in the natural order of things.
Free bump for a great book.
They are pretty cool guns. I have a No.1 in 450/400 that was customized quite nicely with a fine dark piece of wood and case colors. It is light and that made me a little nervous hearing the same chatter as others have mentioned here. However, it fits me well and is pleasant to shoot. I hand...
I'm late to the party but wanted to add my accolades to the pile. Enjoyed the write up very much. Great job!
Also, might have been a bit of a strategic error to sandbag as hard as you did (see above) and then give us a fine yarn. Now I am expecting to get a custom rifle from your next...
Glad he's recovering and it was not worse.
I will pass this along to the DSC Frontline Foundation to reach out to him in consideration for a grant to help with medical expenses.
It was created to be a safety net for PH's, skinners, trackers, anti-poaching folks that make international hunting...
Bump for a great jacket. I love my Filson gear. Been wearing their western style vest for years in all conditions and it still looks great. This would be mine if it were my size.
