Look on ebay for R8 mounts. I have 2 of them (offered by zruncho).

My Blaser R8 Jaeger was advertised as Grade 8 wood. I believe that it it achieved that subjective assessment.

I am also picky on triggers. My 1992 No 1 is a light sporter. The rifle without scope weighs 7lbs 2oz. The trigger pull was 6lbs 11oz. Absolutely unmanageable. Swiftly replaced with Jard trigger at 1.5lbs.

@rookhawk I agree those refinish suggestions are spot on and will research how to accomplish them. Hopefully it will somewhat match the finish on my R8 Yaeger.

@rookhawk, @kevin Peacock Thanks for the interesting comments. The rifle appeared to be unfired when I purchased it a few weeks ago. I had decided not to buy another...and found this one. Oh well...this is the first light sporter I've owned.

It's not clear to me whether it was refinished...I think not. It is definitely a satin finish.

Exactly what I used on this Leupold 4.5-14×40. Worked out very well. Now to figure out if it shoots.....

It is an upgraded factory stock. The 147 EL usually has really nice wood. Found this one at Pacific Sporting Arms in California.

I have noticed a few shotguns posted, so I'll add my Merkel 20 ga. to my earlier R8 post. Just added a NECG pad.

I have installed a couple of these pads and like them alot. This is my Merkel 147 EL on the way to a south Texas dove hunt.

Really super wood. Mine was graded as grade 9...yours probly 10 or 11.

That is really not cool. I cannot imagine your frustration... I have two Sip barrels. Both 19mm... one in 308, the other in 9.3x62. Both sets of studs did not match "exactly" with the captured nuts, unlike the ease of my other two Blaser barrels, but not enough that it concerned me Both...

When I had my .375 H&H Winchester Mod 70 I used 300 gr Hornady with H4895. MV a little over 2200 fps. Would bore a hole through a 200lb Feral hog at 125 yds (feeder distance).

My Ruger Hawkeye African in 9.3x62 has some issues with the crf bolt chewing up some of the PPU 9.3 cases. No other problems...I just break out a little piece of fine sand paper to buff off the dings...

Thank you. I did have several very nice bolt guns. First handled the R8 at an SCI convention in Las Vegas several years ago. A short time later I found a smoking hot deal on this R8 in 30-06. After a short time I had 3 additional barrels and sold all my other bolt guns. All 4 barrels are sub-moa...

Get some grade 9 wood. You might fall in love....

The pedestal mount worked perfectly for my Stag. The other mount pretty much took the prime wall space...

You will be pleased with a Merkel SXS in 20 gauge...my 147 EL

Thanks for introducing that term...had to look up 'Royal McNab'. And actually having a Loomis 5 weight and 9 weight rod set, I might have to try that someday....

@Globalstar66 Thanks. I bought mine with 30-06 barrel. Have since added 6.5x55 (Blaser), .308 (J Sip) and 9.3x62 (J Sip) barrels. All are regularly sub-moa.
