@ACM I'm really not sure, both were proper cats, one definately will be full body, and I'll get the skull for both. I'm still trying to decide on what to do with both though.
@Safari1 Elephants are there, not nearly in the numbers that other places in Africa hold though. Saw several small herds, more really family groups of 5-6. Also saw several solo males. This one is a young male who likes to pass through camp from time to time. Picture was taken just outside...
“How did the shot feel?” Danie asked “Good” I replied, “did you see the hit?” looked good, he said. We still waited a solid ten minutes in the blind before calling Godfried and Nhlapa to bring the truck in. When they arrived, we all proceeded down to the tree with flashlights as well as...
The next morning we were up early. @Scanos had completed his hunt the day prior and departed back to the U.S. Jaco, left without a hunter, agreed to take a pig carcass to the bait site to hang while Danie and myself continued to look for plains game. It should be mentioned that the game quality...
@Nkawu First shot ended up further back than anticipated. It hit right side back of the vital area and went into the liver. The entry hole was vertical, lengthwise of the bullet (wish I taken a picture). We figured there must have been a small tree or vine that I didn't see that the bullet...
@Chukardogs Thanks for the vote of confidence. It was a great hunt and I'm glad to have shared it with you and Kathy and looking forward to the next one! Also, I doubt Danie will care.
I had a great hunt with Kwalata Safaris, Jaco Strauss in Niassa last year, and would highly recommend him. Feel free to PM for more discussion. Here’s a link to my hunting report.

Terminator, I think you are correct with your line of reasoning. @Christian Davis I did just weigh it and it came out to 8.8 pounds, however I did not weigh the rifle before, so I do not have a great starting point, only what Winchester says it would weigh.
@TERMINATOR, yes that is the place. Look under the link at the top for “pre war bolt actions”. I had him perform his “Old African” package without re-boring/re-chambering. Give him a call to discuss what you want. He’s a great guy to talk to, if he doesn’t answer, he will respond back in a...
I wanted to pass along some recent work I had performed by RJ Renner in Sparks, NV. I have a Winchester Model 70 Super Express (New Haven) rifle in 375 H&H that had some bedding induced accuracy issues. The stock also felt awkward and a little off. RJ pillar bedded and slimed/reshaped the...
Mark,
FWIW I reload 500-416, Hornady cases with Woodleigh softs and solids.. I use a RCBS Rebel press with CH4D dies and shell holder and have no issues with fit.
Some areal shots of the local hunting area as well as the plane ride from Pemba to Niassa, along with some pictures from the ground. @VertigoBE, this will give you a basic idea, I'm sure Jaco has more pictures to better depict what you are looking for.
@VertigoBE,
I have some areal shots that will show some remoteness of the area. I also have a few shots that depict local flora. They are on my computer at home. I’m working on the road now, I’ll be happy to post tomorrow when I get back tomorrow.
@Hunt anything,
Thanks! Actually talking to Splitting Image taxidermy now. Looking at getting a full body of the leopard either attacking or standing over a fresh kill of the bush pig. The ideas they have sent thus far have been really great.
I'm not sure that Niassa will turn into a tourist destination. One of the main reasons is that it is not an easy place to get to. To get there, you will need to get to Northern Mozambique (Pemba) most likely via another African city (Johannesburg) and then take a private charter to Niassa...
