This is just my own personal experience and observation on the 6 Cape buffalo I’ve taken last two years (which may be more and be significantly less than others here) but I have used the 350 gr Norma factory ammo in 375 and had mixed results with penetration. Both noted by myself and PH on at...
I flew both a few days ago and didn't see them weigh anyone's. I think Airlink has the smaller Embraer planes though so if you have a bigger bag it would probably get sky checked before to walk into the plane. They had fairly tight overhead bins.
Just did the Qatar Doha to JNB flight and then transfer to SA Airlink to Windhoek route.
Qatar was adamant that I'd have to reclaim my bags and re-check in at JNB when I arrived. Got to JNB and the passport control looked at my baggage tags and said no need to reclaim simply go to your SA...
"I also dont hold anyone's personal choices against them until they start telling me what mine should be. " Boom, love it - totally true
Connecting through JNB to Windhoek tomorrow. Should be exciting.
Thanks for the feedback @Tanks @Hogpatrol
While I don't want to spend the time I may go ahead and get it redone then.... The more I think about it the less I want to chance it.
Has anyone flown on Qatar recently where they required a TYPED version of the form 4457? Looking back on this thread it seems to have been an issue. I'm heading to Namibia (IAH - DOHA - JNB - WDH) in mid July. Went to get this signed at my closest CBP office and they screwed up my only typed...
I saw another post on AH recently where Qatar was supposedly cancelling flights from Doha to JNB later in the year. They weren't getting a lot of answers from Qatar. Now this is happening with Emirates so it seems a pattern is developing?
I'm heading to Namibia mid-July on Qatar to JNB and...
+1 for Qatar. I think they have a flight from DFW into Doha and straight into JNB on a relatively short layover. Best of luck in re-booking your flights and hope you get to enjoy your hunt
I have it on good authority that there were buff taken from 40 inches to a massive 46 inches at the end of the season. Eland quality is probably as good as it gets on the plateau. Big leopard taken on Waterberg and one in Kaokoland too. I believe you'll find most of the pics here...
I'll tell you what - I went to pick up a Heym Express in 404 in Dallas just a few weeks ago and had a chance to try the 89B in 470NE at the private range. Very unfortunate mistake on my part.
Next thing I know I have a deposit in on an 89B in 470NE and I'm thinking to myself "what have I...
Have you ever considered the new Barrett Fieldcraft rifles? I have one in 6.5CM and the word "jewel" comes to mind every time I handle it.
The 308 in 18 barrel would seem to fit the ticket for you.
Always wondered how a red stag hunt on horseback in Patagonia would be like. Throw in a few days of trout fishing if you really felt like treating yourself. Perhaps one day...
I had a great buff hunt at @MBIZI SAFARIS last August.
Here is my hunting report in case it helps you to make a decision. https://www.africahunting.com/threads/zambia-buffalo-hunting-at-mbizi-safaris-game-reserve-in-luangwa-valley.59111/
I went through a similar decision making process this year and ultimately chose the Luangwa Valley for my first Africa hunting trip. Cape buffalo was my priority. I had a fantastic time with Michael who is the outfitter and owner of Mbizi Safaris. The camp was right on the Luangwa River and...
Not the best looking guns but their new Ultralight models aren't too bad.
I have an old precision carbine in 308 and I have nothing but confidence when I shoot it. Savage makes great production rifles IMO
I was lucky to thread the needle with travel and flight cancellations to finally hunt in Zambia earlier in August. I can completely relate to your feelings right now.
Please post your hunt review. I'm sure many of us will be waiting to read about it.
This is a great question and I should've made it clearer somewhere in my final post.
I did not end up getting my first buffalo. We looked the second one over and he was not previously hit. As we were approaching him, we got a chance to see the herd move off in the distance and counted 9 buff...
Thank you for your feedback. I wish the edit button were active for longer as I didn't know it would cut me off. I'm glad I put pen to paper on it as the details are still very vivid.
We're back in camp just in time for a sundowner and we're still on the deck watching as our celebrity puku is bedding on the sandbar below us. Two elephants have just crossed the river and are coming over our side of the river bank.
We notice some impala towards the same bank becoming spooked...
Day 7 -
We're out on the road early again at 5:30AM and things are feeling a little different this morning. To start, we're all a little more layered up as this is easily the coldest AM we've had this week. It must've been near 10 Celsius if that's even possible. Crisp enough that we can see...
It's turning out to be quite a long read but I hope you enjoyed it. I think you'll find the place to be very special if you ever make it out there in the future.
I'd like to give a special shout out to you as I recall reading your buff hunt report at Mbizi. It really helped me to make my decision and I was glad I made it happen.
