    Best Deer Hunting Round, LOL!

You nailed it very succinctly! I believe it's why we see so many hunting in TX with .243 the surging 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08, 25-06 (very popular in TX) and with our laws many even use .22-250 and .223 (60-64 grain hunting bullets successfully). I even have a box of "Reduced Recoil" rounds for...

    Best Deer Hunting Round, LOL!

One thing about where we hunt (Llano, TX in the hill country about 1 hr. west of Austin), it is known as the deer capital of Texas because it is known to have the highest density of deer population of anywhere in the U.S. I believe. At any rate, they aren't the biggest - but we see deer...

    Best Deer Hunting Round, LOL!

Agree with you - but for many that don't reload themselves - a very real consideration is Factory Ammo availability, price and how easy can I find it at a local retailer. And for all those variables a 6.5 Creedmoor currently is a much better choice for the person I described. The 6.5 x 55...

    Best Deer Hunting Round, LOL!

Yes - but in many states it is legal. In hunting African game - some places don't allow a .338 Lapua but not because it isn't effective. Just old & silly laws. I went on a bear hunt in Northern Alberta and they wouldn't let me use a .44 Mag - so had to use the .280 instead. Not that the .44...

    Best Deer Hunting Round, LOL!

Absolutely agree. If you aren't highly confident that your shot is accurate, then none of us have any business pulling the trigger on a game animal. And for most that means 200, 250, 300 yards or less.

    Best Deer Hunting Round, LOL!

Just as my lost suggests it is about Kenetic Energy at what distance. 6.5 creedmoor is very good to 500-600 yards on deer...only 200-250 on elk. Look at KE needed for the game you are hunting....it varies

    Best Deer Hunting Round, LOL!

Great overall post, but I would add that a .223 and a .22-250 are no where near the same round in a deer. 3600-4000 ft per sec creates far more Kinetic Energy.

    Best Deer Hunting Round, LOL!

You nailed it! And that is my exact progression for my boy. At 8, he can shoot the 6.5 Creedmoor (Bergara HMR, heavy amd with brake) with assistance. But for hunting I make him do it all by himself at the range ....and make sure he can hit within 6 inch diameter of bullseye at 100 yards 9...

Your 3 favorite hunting cartridges of all time

If I could only have 3 rifles (excluding shotguns amd handguns), I am going with. .22LR (.22-250 close runner up) .270 Win (or 6.5 Creedmoor) .300 Win Mag

    Best Deer Hunting Round, LOL!

Agree, if an adult or even teenage hunter has $500-700 to spend, I am advising .270 Win, .243, 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 all day long for strictly deer. If they want a rifle for Elk, Bear, Safari, that can hunt almost all North American Game, then I am recommending 7MM, 30-06, 300 Win Mag, or even...

    Best Deer Hunting Round, LOL!

I love my .270 and 6.5.....but also love getting my 8 yr old son into hunting. Which means .22-250 is about to get a workout!

    Best Deer Hunting Round, LOL!

So, saw an old thread on .22-250 as a deer hunting round and all these articles always start the debate over what is the best deer round, and also what rounds are too light and so on. I am in TX and have been deer hunting my entire life. In TX, I have witnessed people killing deer quickly with...
