Scope and red dot mount questions

Neckdeep - Thanks! I'll check that one out! Weaver bases are definitely not a problem to find. I also didn't know Leica made a red dot. I'll have to check that out as well. HWL - That's exactly the type of setup I'm thinking about for my rifle. It looks like it works well on your double. Rare...

Scope and red dot mount questions

I appreciate all the help! With some time on google I haven't found anybody advertising a rmr mount for talley bases. Maybe somebody on the forum knows of one. AHR or Alaskan Arms may be able to manufacture a custom one. Warne makes rmr mounts, but I can't tell from their site if they mount to...

Scope and red dot mount questions

The initial plan was Talley but it looks like they aren't going to get done, so I'm really open to anything as long as the QD will reliably return to zero and they'll hold up to the 404.

Scope and red dot mount questions

Thanks Woodcarver. I'll reach out to AHR. Unfortunately, the Model 70 doesn't have the grooves in the receiver like the CZ550, so I'm not sure if his style of mount will work.

Scope and red dot mount questions

So, I'm having a 404 Jeffery built on a Model 70 and I'm working on deciding on optics. I would like to have a scope in QD mounts as well as something like an rmr on a QD that could mount on the same base as the scope. I've always heard Talley for QD scope mounts, but they don't seem to have a...

404 Jeffery v 416 Rigby head to head

Thanks guys! I'll definitely email the bullet manufactures for data. I haven't 100% settled on what I'm going to use but I've been thinking Cutting Edge for solids and either them or Barnes for expanding. I appreciate that load data. I'll definitely give it a shot once I get my rifle back...

404 Jeffery v 416 Rigby head to head

I know I'm reviving an older post, but I'm curious where you get your load data for the Jeffery? I'm having one built now and am going to need some data.

My next "if I had the money" rifle purchase...

Well, I'm having a 404J built now. I have my eye on the Uberti Courteney Stalking Rifle. I've also been wanting a SxS 16ga hammer gun. My probably never going to happen gun would have to be a British double in 500 Nitro.

    Wanted 404 Jeffery Ammunition

I'm in the process of building a 404 Jeffery and am needing to find some ammo. If anybody has any for sale I'd be interested in hearing about. Also would be interested in reloading supplies for it as well.

    New 404J Build

Thanks! I just heard back from Justin at Pre-64 Win and the current barrel can't be bored but the action can be converted. They have about a 2 year backlog so I'll definitely give Randy a call. Thanks!

    New 404J Build

I'll make sure it gets the extra support it needs. I'd hate to crack the original stock. I had one of those on my AR for a while and it would have made a great hunting scope. I'll probably look at getting one for this rifle. It currently has a B&L Balfor mounted. If I can't get the original...

    New 404J Build

I hadn't thought of seeing if they do caliber conversions. I'll shoot them a message. Thanks!

    New 404J Build

Interesting! Was the dot on the night sight just too large for an accurate shot? I may have a mount with a dovetail added so I can try it out and see if I like it or not. I am thinking I'll likely do a 1-6 scope or a red dot as a primary sighting system.

    New 404J Build

So, for the past few years I've been on the hunt for a 1951 Winchester Model 70 in a H&H caliber to build into a 404J. I finally found one today. I wanted a dangerous game caliber twin to my Great-Grandfather's rifle that I had inherited when I turned 18. I'm working on moving up to Alaska and...

    Wanted .416 Rigby

That is one of the most beautiful rifles I've ever seen! I would love to find one like that. I'm not set on any particular brand or setup other than a CRF in something that is easy to have a barrel made for.

    Rechambering a 458 Lott to 450 Rigby

I'm curious, what is the cost of opening up the bolt and doing the feeding work on a conversion like this? I'm wanting to do something similar and haven't really found what to expect.

    Wanted .416 Rigby

Haha Yeah, definitely confusing! I want one mostly for the novelty. I plan on moving to Alaska sooner or later and would probably only carry it as a stopping rifle for Grizzlys. Any caliber of the CZ550 will definitely work, as I think all the actions are the same, but the 416 Rigby and 550...

    Wanted .416 Rigby

Thanks Bill! I don't really have a deadline and I'm not wed to any make/model in particular. I'm just looking for a good host for a 550 mag build. I'll probably shoot whatever I end up with in stock form for a little while before changing it though. Thanks Paul. I was talking about the CZ 550...

Big changes coming at American Hunting Rifles

Yes, but you can't re-barrel to a 450 Rigby or 550 Magnum nearly as easily as a rifle that natively handles the 416 Rigby which is why I'm wanting a Rigby vs a Rem. Hopefully there's other gunsmiths than can/do offer similar work. I was looking forward to sending a rifle to AHR once I get it.

    Wanted .416 Rigby

I'm looking to get my first big bore and have been looking for a CZ500 or similar in .416 Rigby. The end goal is to convert it to a 550 magnum. I know the timing is awful since they were recently discontinued.

    Courteney Boot Question

I contacted both Africa Sporting Creations and Westley Richards and asked directly about my size. Luckily Westley Richards had a pair in my size that wasn't listed on the website. I'm not sure how many pairs like that they have or if it was a fluke.

    Courteney Boot Question

Thanks! I'm not sure how long these sat as the stockist didn't have them listed on their website and they seem to have been returned at some point. I'll give them a polish just in case.

    Courteney Boot Question

Thanks! I've seen that around before. My boots came with a jar of Courteney's polish, but I'll probably pick one of these up to use after their stuff is gone. I saw that on their website. I'm curious whether it should be done before wearing them or if that's not necessary. That does help...

    Courteney Boot Question

Hi all, So, I managed to find a pair of Courteney Selous boots in my size available here in the states. I got them today and they fit very well and seem very comfortable. The care instructions are missing from the box, so I was wondering if I should polish them before wearing them, and how...

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Ngwarati Safaris?

Thanks Bruce. I might have a chance at a really good deal on one of their packages so I was mostly just curious. I may contact them about previous clients. I noticed that about their price list but I'm not sure I'd be adding much of anything over the package except maybe a warthog/baboon.

Is there an African animal you wouldn't shoot?

I don't think I could shoot an Elephant, or any of the Great Apes. The intelligence and the emotional connections that they form are too human for me. Or anything that's threatened with extinction (such are Rinos). I did recently learn about darting hunts, and I wouldn't have a problem with...

    Hi All!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Phil - I used to be, but now I am taking classes online after deciding to really switch directions. Shootist - I do some larger game hunting as well. Primarily Mule Deer, but some Whitetail and Elk as well. As far as firearms, I have a bunch, but my...

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Ngwarati Safaris?

So, I've been looking into booking a safari for a friend and I and have been watching online auctions and deals. One name that's popped up for a good deal is Ngwarati Safaris in South Africa. I haven't been able to find anything as far as reviews or posts here or elsewhere online. Does...

    Hi All!

Hi everybody, I'm Ryan. I've been reading on the forum for a long time and even joined several years ago before my first trip but couldn't find my old info. I took a photo safari in Kenya almost 10 years ago now, and fell in love with Africa. I've been trying to find a way to make it back...

    Hello!

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody! My trip will be only in Kenya, but I was thinking of swinging down into Tanzania since I will be right on the border as it is. I was planning on renting a rifle if I can hunt mostly because I'm not sure a professor would be happy with my bringing...

    Tanzania Question - Hunting time?

Hey all, I'm new and will be in Africa in January and should have a few days of free time before or after my scheduled class time there and would love to hunt. I know that hunting in Kenya is off limits, but Tanzania is extremely close to where I will be and traveling between seems rather...

    Hello!

Hey all! I'm Ryan. I just found out I will be traveling Kenya in January. The least I can say is I'm more excited beyond words. I will be working with my University to study East African Raptors and other animal populations in Masai Mara and Lake Niavasha. I've always wanted to travel to...
