    Mannlicher Schönauer 'Prewar' M1900, M1903, M1905, M1908, M1910, M1924, 'M1925' or 'High Velocity'

Interesting. Started making up 30 more cases from LC 30.06 match cases yesterday. I have t shoulders rolled back and the necks opened up and I need to make another expander to get the inside neck diameter to where it only gives a .002" grip on the bullet. After that I trim them back to 56MM...

I have previously reloaded 250 gr bullets for my 9X56 M1905 Carbine but am now thinking about trying some Sierra 180 gr. jacketed soft point flat nose (made for 38 Special and 357 Mag handguns. Was looking around and found where one person had tried 158 gr. pistol bullets but had keyholes in...

Ray B, is your 1962 700 serial number over 10,000? Mine is in the 9000 range.

    Pre-72 Remingtons??

Pre 72 was the old designs, 721, 722, 725 and for lack of a better term were strong but not attractive so to speak. The 700 was the classy looking models and I have one with a 4 digit serial number that I don't think has seen two boxes of ammo. The 700 was made in a short action and a long...

Some rifles I have stocked or built

George only lived about 15 miles from me and his knives were beautiful. What was not known about him was he was also a gun lover. He had a pond next to his shop and he was constantly watching for snakes to be swimming across and he would take their heads off from 100 yards. He died a number...

Some rifles I have stocked or built

My Dad was a master watchmaker and a master engraver. He was offered a job engraving money plates for our Treasury Dept and turned it down. Thus I can really appreciate fine workmanship. Apparently you are into knife making. Have you ever heard of George Herron in the states?

M70 bolt, Wondering what is the use of that piece...

I have 29 Mod 70s and never saw such then again I don't have a new production one made in South Carolina and now that I have seen this I will not. I live about 50 miles from where they are now made. That means you have a late production striker (firing pin) the late model ones are notorious...

    Sticky bolt?

A friend had the same thing happen a couple years ago on a factory rifle in 300 Win Mag. He thought it was the dies and bought two more sets and same problem. He tells me about it at a fire dept meeting one night and I told him to bring it down and his brass. I ran his brass through my dies I...

Anyone ever have reloaded ammunition that was hard to close the bolt on? What I do?

I quit using expander/decap rods years ago for that very reason and such shortened brass life to boot. Now I expand with a mandrel I make that expands neck to the exact grip I want on my ammo. I set my FL dies to bump shoulders back .002 on rapid fire ammo and .001 for long range precision ammo.

Fired case above head diameter was just measured .4695. ,472 must be MMC. Will have to measure my 9X56 Carbine but am going out to walk my daily five miles now.' Thanks for posting above data.

Anyone ever have reloaded ammunition that was hard to close the bolt on? What I do?

Your dies may not be doing their job. When I went to work at the Army Small Cal Lab the guy that trained me told me that a fair amount of dies are reamed too deep and if you have a rifle with min headspace the die my not bump the shoulder back far enough and you will get into a "forcing the...

I wish I had found the pens 40 years ago ! ! ! ! ! The above was tumbled with 2 oz Ivory Dish Detergent and a 9MM case full of Lemishine for two hours. Interesting. I just did a search for 8X60S and a Brit forum says it was loaded by RWS, Hirtenberger and S&B and that he has one in his shop for sale now he is thinking of keeping. When my friend brought me the first case it was made by DWM. The thread also says he had one built on a 98...

    Portable reloading outfit I fabricated

to be honest I was surprised it is as sturdy as it is and I think it is because the columns are basically the same length and about 3/4" stainless steel. It helped that I have a lathe and a mill to make the columns and the top plate. Already had the 7/8X14 tap.

I estimate it weighs about 50 lbs. I also have four arbor presses and one is about 150 lbs, one is about 40 lbs and the others are maybe ten and 15 lbs. My tooling is set up that I need a vise to hold powder measure, case trimmer etc. so having everything bolted to same plate works. WHen I...

    Portable reloading outfit I fabricated

There was supposed to be two pics but if the top of the pic black bar is tapped it will open up full screen so you guys can see the details of how the bolts attach to the columns. Basically it is set up for loading 8X60 ammo at my friend's house when I took it up about 18 months ago.

    Portable reloading outfit I fabricated

Had an extra reloading press so I figured WTH, figure out a portable press and this is what I came up with. It looks like it would wobble but does not. I made the legs and turned them in lathe and measured them with very long caliper and they are all within about .005" IIRC. Cap screws hold...

Besides politicians this is your worst enemy

I have a buddy in Pennsylvania and when he goes to the range he takes wide mouth gallon jug half full of water and Ivory dish detergent. As soon as he gets through he uses a portable tool and decaps the cases and dumps them directly into the jug of soapy water and lets them soak till he gets...

Considerations for rifle selection you should consider for hunting/SHTF rifle

There are several ways to evaluate a rifle in my opinion that you may need in a SHTF situation. 1. The main question is this. What design will last the longest without maintenance support? i.e. be capable of firing the most number of rounds day in and day out with little or no maintenance...

    Firearms insurance for your hunt

The cages I have are opened up enough to let the 30 cal bullets go by. The bird cage suppressors are not expensive and they were also used on a variation of the M60 MGs in 70s. I don't know if the commercial ones will take the M16 plastic caps and might be hard to get a match. Also the...

Ammunition storage, factory loaded and hand loaded considerations

Change in LOP means a change in scope position?

I have a short neck and shoot lefty so I generally want a rifle I can mount a handgun scope on forward of the action so I can work the bolt quickly left handed. My favorite LOP is 12". If you have your rifle rebarreled the easiest mount to locate a scope forward is a Weaver 92A base. The...

Loading for Long Range minimum group size, how I do it

To be clear the Humpy button is made from .311 dia oil hardening drill rod. They are about an inch long. I turn one end down to say .306-.3078, heat them red hot and drop in oil. They are held in a RCBS bullet puller die. If you leave your expander in your die the neck is reduced in diameter...

    Firearms insurance for your hunt

The reason I use handgun scopes on rifles is that they have to be engineered to take much more abuse. Handguns have a much more severe recoil impulse than rifles and have to be made tougher to handle the abuse. The bird cage flash suppressor can also benefit the shooter if you should find...

Ever thought about using graphite? Food for thought, read below

That is why graphite is used in brake shoes on your car. In the absence of moisture graphite is a abrasive. This is why your brakes don't work well when your brakes get wet. You will also have a change in the same metal if it is a different number but it might take a number of years for it to...
