    35 Whelen vs 9.3x62

I have attached pics of the 9.3x62 & 35 Whelen cases for comparison. The case capacities are 77-78 grains for 9.3x62 & 70-72 grains for 35 Whelen. Both grand cartridges,,,,,

    35 Whelen vs 9.3x62

Some facts fellas we all have favourites. I like to report on my observations rather than heresay. The 9.3x62 has 5-6 grains more capacity, so given similar throat, barrel length etc. the 9.3 will be slightly better... The 35 Whelen has been limited by its slower twist barrels (factory) designed...

    9.3x62 or something else??

I would like to reinforce the 9.3x62 followers, I have two! My loads achieved 2530fps with 320gn Woodleighs & 2620fps with 286gn Woodleighs using Re17. Pressures on both these loads were less than the listed maximum Varget (AR2208) load which I used extensively! Everyone needs a favourite....

AUSTRALIA: Feral Cull Hunt In The Northern Territory

After lots of planning & some interference from covid we were on our way to the NT to complete some donkey culling at a brand new location. After two very long days which included border protection passes & tyre/wheel dramas we finally reached our destination. We were immediately assaulted next...

It sounds like the older reamers might have been set up with the shoulder at 32 degrees like in the pic below, that Norma case looks like it has a .416 Remington shoulder!! I had my dies custom made in Oz back in '92 but lost contact with the old smith. I only use Winchester .458 brass run...

    Range shooting my Zastava

My .416T has ERA adjustable rear sight & ERA ramp front sight. The bases are Talley & I use a 1-4x20 Leupold on top depending on my whim.... The stock is custom built, I replaced the original Ramline stock (was a .458W) which was solid but kept jamming my second finger due to not enough relief...

New to me 416 Taylor Improved

Hi Cleveland 48 I think you will find more ofso called improved .416 Taylor's out there! I had mine built in 1992 on a Mark X (Zastava) action with 24" Douglas barrel by Ron Webb a well respected Aussie gunsmith. He cut me a .416T chamber & sent original Waters data with IMR 4320 to help me out...

    Bullet Performance Database

Bullets often get the blame when other variables conspire to mess up clean kills. When I look in the mirror I see the face of the most common contributing factor to less than clean kills. Shooter error encompasses a big range of variables: - poor shot placement due to shooter errors - imperfect...

Hi all thought I would post a few pics of bullets recovered on a feral cull some years ago. 1. 410 grain Woodleigh bullet fired from .416 Taylor into 1500 pound Scrub Bull (high shoulder shot) at 30 yards, impact velocity about 2200fps, recovered in skin after full penetration through...

Comment by 'Laurie Colgrave' in media '.375 Winchester'

I had one of those S... A great rifle calibre combo for hunting in cover & short range work. My mate has my Marlin & I now have a Winchester. We use these rifles to great effect on feral pigs here in OZ. Because brass is difficult to obtain we use 30-30 brass necked up, however 38/55 brass is a...

    Woodleigh bullets, any good?

I've had good experiences with the 410gn .416 Woodleighs at 2250fps impact velocity, on feral cattle. One bullet recovered from a big bull around 700kg weighed 398.0 grns (97%) & was 1.04" in diameter! I will post a pic when I find the bullet!

    .416 Taylor

    I have lots of .416T data that I would share, using AR2208(Varget) & AR2206H (H4895) for 300gn - 450gn bullets. My favourite big game load is 410gn Woodleigh @ 2360fps. The 340gn Woodleigh @ 2550fps is a bomb on 300kg game or less!

    9.3 CZ

Gotta laugh at some opinions expressed.... I am a reloader to the core however PPU 9.3x62 ammo was cheaper than any brass I could find, so I bought 200. Their brass is superior to any US stuff I have tried. The ammo is mild compared to my 286gn at 2400fps however I found this ammo is deadly on...

    9.3X62 for Cape Buffalo?

Thanks for the advice Bruce & Tim. I have not been a fan of Barnes X in lower velocity or lower capacity cartridges for the obvious reasons of powder space intrusion/ lowering of velocity which impedes the expansion of the X even more. I think their place starts at about 2800fps where they can...

Hey I love your passion for your favourite calibre fellas, bit like our ladies I reckon! I like my 9.3x62 rifles because they kill reliably all day every day. 9.3X62 for Cape Buffalo?

Hi Tim, I am interested in your experience. Did I see your pic in a 2020 catalogue? I am going to Namibia in 2021 with Eland on my list & would like to get your take on bullet preference. I have trmendous respect for the 286gn Woodleigh WCRN! This bullet put down six big brumbies at 120m from a...

    Woodleigh Bullets

Hi guys I have a a batch of 450gn .416 Woodleighs loaded for a trip that should include scrub bulls. My load is about 2200fps MV out of my Taylor. Whilst the bullets are sub par for Woodleigh they look as though they function ok, excepting close encounters with poor shot options. I have used the...

Reflex Sights on Dangerous Game Rifles

I have experience with a Aimpoint Hunter 34L on 9.3x62 & .416 Taylor. This sight used with both eyes open is very fast when taking running game, useful to older gents like me where iron sights get a bit indistinct. I used this sight to take 40kg pig at 150m..... easy! Lack of magnification aids...

Comment by 'Laurie Colgrave' in media '250 grain Accubond. 62 gr Range Shots'

Try a faster burning powder I got better results using H4895 (AR2206H) with 250gn bullets (2640fps), I found Varget & RL15 better with the 270-286gn bullets!

    9.3x62 load

Only moving forward when all of these...

    9.3x62 load

Thanks mate, I get a bit defensive sometimes. I remember getting load advice for my first 9.3 in 2004 guys we’re settling for 2200fps with 286gn & going to 2400fps was crazy.. As you know those loads I spoke of torque my 8.5lb Mauser around plenty & it bumps a bit, but I love it. A bit of...

    9.3x62 load

AZDAVE Thanks for the advice, I have been hand loading for 45 years & this is not a game for me! My two 9.3x62 rifles are different Mauser98/Tikka65 but share the common 9.3x62 trait..... plenty of throat. My shooting mate uses a CZ550 in 9.3x62 also long throated & shares similar results with...
