Try Huntingtons Die Specialties. They have bags of 100 375 H&H for only a few bucks over$100.00. I bought RWS cases from them in the past. IMHO, RWS brass is the best made. I don't know what these cases are. Ask about them and good luck. JM
matchu865, get some Renaissance wax. It's a British product used by the British Museum to protect everything from marble statues to metallic pieces and has worked very well on my French walnut stocked 375 H&H on both the wood and metal. FWIW. JM
I've loaded many cartridges with compressed loads and have not had any issues. Most recent used was a 270 Roy shooting a 140 gr Failsafe on top of 79 gr of ReL 25, Fed gm 215 primers @ 3300 fps. It tipped over a B&C 179 1/8 Rocky Mtn Ram. Priceless. JM
I've had Magnsportind done on two 340 Roy's. I don't have any recoil issues but wanted to stop muzzle rise and the Magnaporting works great with little increase in perceived noise. FWIW. JM
Weatherby uses epoxied internal cross bolts behind the front recoil lugs and behind the magazine well. Never had an issue with my Mark V 375 H&H. FWIW. JM
The black coating is a copper oxide (Lubolox) not moly. I've used them in my 270 Roy (140 gr@3300 fps) for several mule deer, and two Rocky Mountain bighorns with obvious great sucess. I've used the 230 gr in my 340 Roy @3100 fps on paper but not on game. Win quit making them (Nosler Combined...
I had a restaurateur friend cure and smoke and roast a black bear ham for me. It was better than any commercial ham I've ever had. Rated right up with high end custom ham. JM
If I wanted lighter bullets eg. 210-250 gr I'd use my 340 Roy. 250 gr Partitions @ 3050 fps. For the 375 H&H I use 299 gr Shock Hammers @ 2670 fps. FWIW. JM
I've received more than one scope cut (must be pretty dumb) while shooting my 340 Roy. Now I've gotten rid of all my scopes with less than 4 inches of eye relief on all my rifles. These include a 270 Winchester, 270 Weatherby mag, 340 Weatherby and 375 H&H. I'd rather have to much vs. not enough.
Swaros tend to have shorter eye relief than I like, I have a few half moon scars on my right eyebrow. My choice would be any top quality scope with 4 inches eye relief. JM
I've hunted N American sheep six times and have four on the wall including a B&C Rocky (180 7/8). I've used my 270 Weatherby Mag for each hunt. All were one shot kills. My longest was 370+ yards, shortest maybe a bit over 100. I've used 150 gr Nosler Partitions, 150gr Hornady Interlocks and Win...
You could get a plaster vibrator from a hobby store or ask your dentist to order you one (dentists use them to make bubble free plaster mouth models). Use a long drop tube and pour the powder slowly with the case on the vibrator platform. This will take a full case of powder and move it down to...
If I was using.250 gr bullets I would personally use my 340 Roy with Partitions @3050fps. If using the 375 H&H I'd use 300 gr Shock hammers @ 2675 zeroed at 200 yards about 8 inches low at 300. Agree with the late Bob Hagel (who was a great guy), "Use a cartridge that will do the job when...
Shootist43, Thanks for your interest. I actually have been in the reloading game since 1986. My first foray was with a 338Win mag for a Browning BAR. I traded that for my first Weatherby, a 270 Roy. It has been extensively customized with a Douglas premium match grade #4 contour 26" SS barrel...
Thanks for the info folks. Alas German products, I have several Leica optics. Is there any other place in USA other than Huntington's that I should check out. All that I have found are not carrying RWS or are out of stock. I 'm also interested in loaded ammo too. JM
Thanks for the fine welcome everyone. Phil, I've had both knees replaced. Developed an infection in the right implant area that resulted in two additional surgeries and a new implant. Lost close to the upper third of my tibia. Came to Tucson because the best revision surgeon in the state is...
I was born in Toledo, OH. Moved all over the Midwest while growing up. Went to undergrad and Dental School at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. I spent five years in the Navy Dental Corps on land and at sea during the Vietnam action. Moved to Flagstaff, AZ in '76 and practiced there for 40...
