My CZ550 458 Lott with the Trjicon SRO 1 MOA dot
With 500gr Safari Bullet Company for softs
500gr Impala Monolithic Solid
5 rounds in the magazine.
At 50 Meters the bullets almost touch each other and who wants to shoot a elephant further out than 50 meters anyway and running away shot it...
Damn, and I thought I was addicted to recoil so with the world in short ends with powder, primers and bullets we do make plans with local bullets and look very well after our cases but I probarbly do about 200 rounds +- with my 458 Lott and about 50 with the 375 H&H per year.
But I must say...
With all these answers I would first ask that specific buffalo bull you are about to shoot if he has read any report on bullet performance if not then hit him with any soft that you have mentioned whatever is the most accurate in your double.
So got back my 7x57 from the Bedding job done.
Then went to the range yesterday to see what the rifle is capable off.
I am stoked and very happy some loads needs fine tuning but I hit the nail on the head with the 154gr Hornady SST load.
This load will be my long range hunting load for...
I wonder if the same outcry would happen if IVORY POACHERS killed two big tuskers?
NO, it won't happen as their is no fingers to point to a specific person and no Ivory to trace back.
hahaha, One day hopefully not too far from now I will be able to get on the tracks of a big eland bull myself in the mopane bush with my 458 Lott. I am going to be picky and mke sure the bull is going to have a ruff of hair.
Considering doing on it on a 5-7 day hunt late in the year end of...
There is some large properties in the North of Limpopo in the Mopane it makes for exiting hunting on foot and tracking. I would go September October when most leave are down and water is concentrated. Its not a guarantee but big bulls will be around you will need some luck on your side.
Day 5...
I'm lucky enough to live in Africa in first place but also lucky enough not too have all the money in world which means I go on hunts regurlaly for specie specific trophies as I cannot afford to take more than one or two top trophy animal at a time.
So I hunt area specific to the endemic...
I don't want to put a spanner in the works but make sure you get an ITAC permit from South Africa's side any gun part or reloading component needs it so its not as easy and importing books.
What is an ITAC permit in South Africa?
If you are planning to bring controlled goods, used or...
Clodo, very nice pictures thank you one thing I do find wrong with them is it looks like the rifles don't get any action that 308 looks in mint condition like it came out of the box today.
It works great and it makes it easier as you can use your palm of your hand putting more force into lifting the bolt and pulling it way back (important on a magnum action) and then pushing it forward. Using your palm with same force and speed will actually hurt the palm with naked steel bolt...
Hahahaha, you will get to like it in time it works when recycling fast but it an easy pull off if you want to.
I saw some of our shooters even having one on his .22 and he could easily recycle with his one hand without lifting his head due to the more grip on the rubber ball.
I am really not...
Consider this sending 1 rifle at 12kg including hard case the background costs permits etc is expensive sending 4 more rifle in a wooden crated box 50kg is going to cost you freight extra only then divide sending 5 rifles and split the cost and your eyes shouldnt water as much.
You are asking a very difficult question and one answer I can give you is to make the plan first to have the Aimpoint mounted that will be the decider.
But that SSB look is eye catching.
Looking at QL it seems 2900fps would be quite a bit into the red with the data you gave me.
70.2 gr IMR4350 with the average Case volume would come out to 2784fps.
I know Quickload is conservative most of the times but 2900fps is quite a jump from 2800fps and at 70.2gr your case is already...
There is not enough info to safely help you with a load.
Firstly what is your barrel length ???
Case volume after being fired
Total overall length of the cartridge
Did you ever measure the speed of the rounds before?
Quick Load is dependable if you input all correct info best way to check for...
I have been very absent from this thread the last few months for one reason.
My CZ550 was not grouping
First it was very bad trigger got that set right and still couldnt get any nice groups with the rifle using 154 gr SST or 175GR bullets various loads.
Funny thing was first shot is always...
Valuable info there Saswart I seem to keep bumping into these CITY PH's at a place called Safari & Outdoor that is why I try and stay away form that place as much as possible.
Seems like they love to cater to theses city PH"s
Africa Son's do you have any good tips for us that already live in Africa seems to me I have only had a glimpse to opening the curtain into hunting Africa.
I just love my Trijicon SRO on my 458 lott shooting competitions or game DG or large ones.
The 1 MOA dot and bigger window gives me more view quick alignment and can shoot at game further out than 100 meters easily.
Mounted on my CZ550 I got a local gunsmith to build me a base wich instert in...
If our Firearm Licensing system especially for wildcat calibres wasnt susch a pain in the butt I would have converted my 458 lott to the African easily.
If the system ever goes better/easier I might just do that, 550gr bullets at 2200fps sounds like DG medicine.
Young children are the future of conservation and hunting so they need as much exposure as possible to the real life outside out of the cement jungle.
We love having younger ones shoot at BASA even if we are predominantly big bore we have a special class for them Colts - Where they can shoot...
I can ask our members at BASA excellent cartridge that resolved high pressure win mag and lott issues with low pressure round built for the hot African sun.
It depends on every bullet manufacturer if I take Impala bullets which are solid brass he makes the bullet diameter slightly smaller and has driving bands less pressure.
Monolithics is longer than normal premium leadcore bullets so it will have more pressure if you load the cartridge to the...
3rd Option then, the chances for the sight to fail are very small and you are not a PH who spends everyfay in the field.
Great that you got to shoot the gun I'm sure youre still smilling.
We had our BASA shoot yesterday again and I fired 17 rounds over the course of 3 ranges in 124 seconds...
I would rather go with the 458 express 3" length case vs 2.8" all you have to do is ream out the chamber a tad longer.
Less fuss and more space for more powder.
At the moment they are being shot and everyone keeps quiet especially livestock farmers.
It would be great if permits come out again and give them value there a monsters to be hunted in Limpopo with the world record coming from Limpopo.
And before anyone shouts foul the numbers are very...
