Part of the problem is “who is telling the story?” Unless someone puts money on the table to tell a full story as you have a via a medium that is accessible, is approachable, and above all, tells a story about people and a landscape, those fighting against us will ALWAYS be the ones to tell the...
I think down there it’s just the frequent presence of people/cars etc. places like the sheldrick wildlife trust do hand feed/raise elephant but reintegrating them into the wild is very tricky once dependent.
My understanding of Amboseli/Tsavo etc now is it’s simply a well-patrolled space that...
Amboseli Trust indicates the Bull was Gilgil, a 35 year old bull known to be of the Amboseli group. The picture they showed did not look anywhere near 100 lb to me. I did a Google search trying to find a picture/mention of the Bull earlier than 2023 and could not find anything.
I don’t know...
I believe it can also be done to prevent the remnant meat from being poisoned to kill predators, scavengers.
Poisoned meat is one of the reasons there are so few vultures in Kenya.
This is the third elephant in that area that was killed. The supposition is that they came from the Amboseli group in Kenya but I have yet to see any evidence of it.
Michael Matheakis issued a letter after the first two. Wasn’t all that great. You can find that on the THOA website.
I find it...
This is really interesting as i have heard form someone else the difficulty in getting mauser/model 70 extractors made. They are not easy for sure, but you'd think by now the process could be simplified wirth CNCs, multi-axis, etc. MAkes the fact they made them by the millions in the past kind...
Yes.
conservative-minded people are bothered by hypocrisy more often than not.
When a liberal puke kills someone with a gun that, in other realms thinks should be banned- hypocrisy ensues.
This is basic human behaviour stuff.
Agree - that is some bad stamping. Then again I have a 6-digit Model 70 338 stainless that must have been a friday/payday/beer thirty rifle for all its cosmetic faults, but it is THE best shooting rifle I have owned. I just leave it alone.
I would have this one corrected though...fugly...
I had this happen with a different place where I made an order, but my card threw a flag so the order didn’t go through. When I talked to the credit card company they saw multiple attempts to charge the same amount. They say it was just an automatic attempt on the vendors part and not “real”...
I love the name Fever Tree. For the safari aficionado it really pulls you back into the old days.
If anyone doesn’t know, the fever tree is the yellow barked acacia, which grows near water/swamps. Back in the day people would naturally gravitate to the water/shade and camped under them. Of...
I do like the SSB for sure. But if you want to hold out, you can keep the DSB and have Smithson mounts installed. It will retain the DSB look 100% but provide full functionality for scopes down the road. They are not cheap but awesome. P
There’s a 500 Jeff at Westley Richards - just the barreled action, a GMA that Stuart Satterlee did the feed work on. The cost seems very reasonable for the high quality parts and work. Bring your stocker…
I am in the middle of a Corbett project and just happened to notice something - Jim Corbett's full name was Edward James Corbett - but the plaque on the buttstock of the 275 Rigby he was given for killing the Champawat tiger says Mr. J. G. Corbett.
Simple mixup?
Here is the plaque:
This isnt even a joke. The Victorinox paring knives are awesome. You look in most kitchens butcherhouses they will be stuffed with vics and dexter knives and thats ALL they do...
That is exactly what I bought. It had 3700 miles on it. I love the truck but be knowledgeable about the potential cam tower oil dribble issue. I had mine resealed at 21k miles. i like the truck a great deal as I do not tow a lot and I typically buy trucks to keep for a long time. My 2002 Tundra...
100%. That is a GREAT article. Many people (myself included) often call it Mauser’s Rule. Mauser did a lot of work, and luckily it’s been proven scalable and predictable. And that 125+ years ago!
Jim Wisner knows what he is talking about. I have been assembling a little manual with him on how he converts a standard Mauser to 404 Jeffery. It is a real chore.
The first sentence in the section on magazine boxes pretty much says it all and the diagrams are realy important to understand why...
You will get various answers to this but yes you are BEST SERVED to open the magazine box and subsequently the rails to accommodate the 9.3. Many, many people have simply rebarelled and been satisfied, but not me. I learned a great deal about how unalike an 06 and. 9.3 are when I had a 9.3 made...
I’ve handled many big bore rifles Echols has made that had ghost ring/peeps. 505 Gibbs, 450 Rigby, 458 Lott, etc. owners seem to love them when it matters.
Hmm... I see this is a 375? or another magnum? EDITED**. Ok I had a look at one of mine... I'd be be willing to bet the front of the bolt stop is caught under the slot it fits in. I might be bent?
Hmm... You are going to have to take it out of the stock and see what it's hanging up on. Could be wedged against the stock, or it went down too far and is hung on a burr on that slot, etc.
pics/videos are good too if you can post them
Just so you have a visual on the rings - here are some quick-detach Talleys. I have a dozen sets of them (as well as one rifle that uses the peep as well). As was stated, they are a solid system.
