I shoot 185 grain Berger VLDs in my .300 Jarrett and all PGAs were DRT with one shot. Can not go wrong with Nosler ABs and Barnes TTSX as both are great bone crushing bullets.
I have a .338 Jarrett so the load data won't match. I love the Barnes 225 grain TTSX out of mine. Killed all my PG on three trips to Africa with one shot.
Headed to Alaska late summer with it for Brown Bear.
I love the .338. Lot's of great bullet selections in weights and manufacturer. I have a Jarrett .338 and have used it extensively on three trips to Africa. Mine launches a 225 grain TTSX @ 3007 FPS.
Will be using in Alaska this August for Brown Bear.
As you all know shot placement is paramount. Practice endlessly at the range shooting off sticks and rapidly taking second and third shots so you can naturally cycle your bolt quickly.
If wounded follow the directions exactly how your PH states.
All excellent points. In my humble experience shot placement is the number one deciding factor in successful game harvesting. Now that is of course using the appropriate caliber and bullet for the hunted species.
I absolutely love Talley rings and have them on all my rifles. Takes extreme recoil and abuse in the field and will not move your scope. Go with Talley.
Great advice posted above. I have used Mr. X's services on three trips to RSA and all were very smooth. $150 should get it done and of course you can TIP if you feel like it. Have a great safari.
7MM RM is another highly versatile cartridge for PG and most American lower 48 states and some Alaska species. .284 Jarrett with Berger 195 grain Elite Hunter VLDs at 476 yards.
300WM is an awesome cartridge launched in 1963. With proper shot placement and bullets it is a bulldozer. Your shot placement looks great I am not a big fan of Nosler. I like Barnes 180 grain TSX and Berger 185 grain VLDs.
I so forgot about the 8mm RM! Such a great performer. The only drawback that I see is the lack of bullet selection for commercial cartridges and hand loaders.
Great recommendations from the members listed above. Can't go wrong with any of the majors - Swift, Hornaday, Barnes, etc. I hand load the 300 grain Barnes TSX with 76 grains of Winchester 760 and get MV of 2510 FPS.
4831 is great for 180 grain bullets. Try 77 grains and see if you group well without blowing primers. I like monolithic bullets for Africa and cup/core for whitetail and Dall Sheep in Alaska.
Atlanta customs and Rifle review is smooth. With Global Entry you should be fine. Transition through ATL from JNB in April with two rifles and took 90 minutes.
