Rifle barrels that will withstand a barrel burner caliber - 6.5X68S

The shilen chrome moly match generally gives anywhere up to .5 moa @ 100. Largest calibre I've had in the cm match was a 300 weatherby, that was only a sporter profile. Still shot no more than .6 moa, when new.

.303 British, good for nothing or classic African cartridge?

Only hassle I run I to was with s&b brass. Whilst supposedly made to c.i.p standards, this is not the (case). The head height is considerably less than the U.S brass, did run Into head spacing troubles until I adjusted reloading dies accordingly.Have since dumped all of them, as I have mainly...

That's a nice bull you have there , well done. Absolutely nothing wrong with the 303. I have a ruger # 1 in 303. Case stretching does happen, but havnt had separations yet.Kept to just under 2500 fps, 174 grn woodleigh, ppsn open to about 7/8 inch, almost perfect weight retention. Whilst I...

    Speer Grand slam bullets

If they've actually changed the design , it's probably not for anything but cost cutting. The only change in projectiles I've seen that was an improvement over the original was when nosler/Winchester brought out the partition gold projectile.

    Varmint bullets

Depending on what calibre you have . . . I use 55grn varmageddons in the 6mm/204 & 70grn in the 6mm/250imp & 243. Found the varmint grenades drop off too quick & have far more wind drift. I've been a pro roo shooter for 35 years, so have used most everything in that time, & these are by far my...

One and Only One Bullet manufacturer for Dangerous Game

When the triple shocks first came out they were rather underside, this was to keep pressure down , due to their extra length. Most of them only shot 2.5 - 3 Mia. This is certainly not the case these days as they have alleviated a lot of pressure problems with use of multiple drive bands.

Best 458 Buffalo Bullet @2150 FPS

G'day Bruce, I'd forgotten about 2201 powder ! I used to get that in 15kg kero tins back in the day . . . After that came 2206 . I used to get that in kero tins - 2 at a time . Tax exempt they were about 275 each. Sids projectiles came in the orange & blue boxes, with hand folded newspaper in...

    Speer Grand slam bullets

The old ones from the 90s were a 2 core projectile. The design was essentially that of the old rws h - mantle - minus the hollow nose cap. If the front 2/3 of the projectile was bonded , they never displayed that on game. The rear 1/3 was a semi partition, with the core 3/4 encased by the...

.303 British, good for nothing or classic African cartridge?

Just a matter of interest . . . Federal factory 303 ammo is loaded with a 180 grain Speer Spitzer- you can't buy them as a component projectile. Woodleigh also make a nice 174 grn pp. Also, in my ruger # 1 , 308 diameter , nosler partitions stabilise just fine as do the old 165 grn Winchester...

Rifle barrels that will withstand a barrel burner caliber - 6.5X68S

No . I used various stainless barrels for years, now I just stick to shilen chrome moly match. In the high intensity varmint calibres , they more than doubled the barrel life. Hart was the same, just very difficult to get them here. Even with my 300 & 378 mk5s , I have doubled the barrel life...

    Woodleigh Bullets & Hydrostatic

Just stick to the velocity , woodleigh recommends & you won't have dramas. If penetration is what your after, you won't get better than the hydros. Buffalo arnt armour plated, & a good soft point or copper hollow point in the right place, first off will put them down.

Best 458 Buffalo Bullet @2150 FPS

Can guarantee they're not. If you use a reasonable calibre, with a good , game projectile, & put it in the right place , first off, you won't have any problems. Too many people use a calibre in excess of their capabilities , & therefore their shot placement can be somewhat dubious. Many people...

Rifle barrels that will withstand a barrel burner caliber - 6.5X68S

I've had most * decent* brands of barrels over many years , for last 12--5 years have stuck with slilen , select match. I have had Krieger, & although they do shoot well , they just don't last.Douglas is no better . . .Have had a number of lilja, & I won't have anymore. Yes they do shoot, but...

Rifle barrels that will withstand a barrel burner caliber - 6.5X68S

Btw, stainless steel , being non porous , is easier to clean. It is also softer by nature, which makes it far easier to make a more precise barrel. All things being equal, the average game hunter will never burn out a barrel. Expect around 800 rounds from it before you have to tinker with flat...

Rifle barrels that will withstand a barrel burner caliber - 6.5X68S

G'day, I've burnt out just over 90 barrels in the last 35 years, working as a pro roo shooter. One thing you will notice, is that with chrome moly barrels, once they have been used, they will continue to harden for the life of that barrel. It doesn't matter if your using a 204, 22/250 improved, or...

Best 458 Buffalo Bullet @2150 FPS

You could say I've got a bit of experience with buffalo . . . If you've got a 458 win mag, try & find something around 400 - 450 grains. You don't need 500s in it. If you mess up your first shot, it won't matter what your using. Buffalo are NOT armour plated, & succumb to a good soft or copper...

Anyone used the Woodleigh .375 Caliber 350g HD round nose

If you find that the swifts work ok , use them. The woodleighs won't perform any better or worse , & the swifts will definitely shoot flatter.

Anyone used the Woodleigh .375 Caliber 350g HD round nose

Depends on what you'll use them on.Worked just fine on water buffalo out of a 378 @ 2810 fps.Ranges were 30 - 90 yards. Worked okay on rear end shots, would anchor them enough for a finisher. Side on they would lump up under opposite shoulder.
