Lessons Learned from Shipping Trophies Home

Yes , the shipping was the most difficult part of the whole safari. Costly, they got you if you want your trophies. I decided against shipping and putting the saved money towards another future hunt. Couldn't get a straight answer from the canadian gov as for fees, taxes. Got very complicated...

    Back to traditional bows

That's great, truly enjoy hunting with the trad bow. It definitely takes more commitment than a compound. Be sure to tune your arrows to the bow. Play with some heavy broadheads. I was shooting 300 grains on a 55/75 goldtip and 200 grain from a 35/55 . I had great penetration from that combo...

I forgot to mention that Louis brought a cushion for the second evening's hunt. He was in the lap of luxury. Thankfully , we only had to wait 90 minutes for the gemsbok to show. I really appreciate my treestands back home and tree with no thorns. Thanks for the comments, happy hunting. jp

SOUTH AFRICA: BOWHUNT: Bow Hunting With Spiralhorn Safari

We hadn't been seeing any gemsbok. So we had to improvise. Louis knew of a pair that travelled on the west side of the property. No room for a blind, so a stand was hung. Actually a plank, but it worked well.

SOUTH AFRICA: BOWHUNT: Bow Hunting With Spiralhorn Safari

The following day, we pulled an all day sit. About an hour before dark, we spotted a herd bedded about 150 yards away. They finally lifted and walked off and we thought our opportunity was done. We called for the truck. Then suddenly they were coming to the water. Tried calling off the truck...
