    Acquisition of a Double Rifle

Given the multiple comments on "fit" in this thread, buying a double online and having it shipped to your local dealer may not be the best idea. I have an eye on a couple doubles at Champlin and seems a road trip is advisable to get the LOP, and possibly the cast fitted correctly.

    280 Remington, how boring

Just picked up a Cooper Backcountry, which is my first in 280 Rem. Still trying to work up a load that is shooting 160gr bullets. Doubletap has a load with Sierra Gameking that I am hoping it likes.

10mm auto new pistol which one?

Owned the Sig 220 SAO and IAI Javelina. Sig was definitely a shooter and weight tamed the full power 10mm loads, but grip frame just didn't feel right to me. Felt boxy. Javelina was a very interesting pistol. 1911 with a 6" barrel and very accurate. Trigger was surprisingly good, but frame...

    Victor Sarasqueta Double Rifles

Thanks. Have to admit I was sorely tempted. If I could have gotten it for around $2K, the additional investment to get the under rib fixed and regulated would have been okay. Price was already at $3500 by the time the auction started, so I quickly became a spectator.

This one hammered at $4K with a 20.5% buyers premium. Wish the new owner the best of luck.

    Victor Sarasqueta Double Rifles

Appreciate the advice. Sounds like it would make for a great wall hangar but buyer beware. This one is being offered by Poulin Auctions this weekend with an estimate of $2500 - $4500. Current bid is $1250...

    Victor Sarasqueta Double Rifles

Appreciate the advice. I like Spanish doubles and always had a soft spot for Ugartechea 28 gauge and 410 bore shotguns. Wasn't sure how significant the loose under (lower) rib would be. I was thinking the barrels were already joined by being chopper lump, dovetail or through lump barrels and...

    Victor Sarasqueta Double Rifles

Came across a 1972 vintage Victor Sarasqueta double rifle in 375 H&H. It is a sidelock double and cosmetically it looks pretty good. I'm vaguely familiar with the name and their double shotguns, but know very little about their double rifles. They were located in Spain and had a decent...

    Back country carry gun

I'm partial to the Ruger Alaskan for hikes/camping in the mountains of CO. Mine is in 454 Casull but have it typically loaded with heavy 45 Colt 325gr hard cast bullets. It is heavy but a good belt and holster makes it an easy all day carry. The grips on the Alaskan are excellent for the...

Leica ER5 Scopes - Where are they made?

Cut and paste from a post on OpticsTalk from Koshkin in Jan 2015. "I spent a fair amount of time with Leica and looked at the ER5 scopes in some detail. I started recording my impressions while I still have them (here). I will add more as I go along. The scoop on ER5 scopes so far is as...

    340 Weatherby

This is a good option. As much as I like the 340 Wby, I can only take it in small doses. Actually enjoy shooting my 375 H&H more than the 340 Wby. I originally purchased it as a mountain rifle but at 10,000+ feet in CO, it got very old humping this in the mountains. I purchased the...

    Choices for scope on .375.

Anyone with experience with the Vortex Razor HD LH 1.5-8x32 scope? Thinking about mounting it on a Ruger No 1 in 375 H&H. Understand is has the Razor glass and reviews are very good. Very generous 4" eye relief with a very forgiving eye box at 8X. Only downside is no illumination, which...

It may be over. They did it after Shot show and the NRA convention. If you sign up for their news letter you’ll get the alert. There ammo isn’t cheap and anything helps.

Wouldn’t expect so but they have their own head stamp brass if I remember. Midway used to carry their ammo but seems they don’t any longer. It is worth asking then if I can send them the brass.

Same problem I’m having with ordering 375 H&H ammo from them. They have had some nice 30% off sales but they don’t have the brass.

    Choices for scope on .375.

The Leica ERi would get my vote. I have that same scope on a Rem Model 7 in 260 Rem and at 2x it is very effective on running game. Very good field of view and optics are on par with Swarovski Z3/Z5 line. Illumination is a must for me and my eyes. I'm in the same boat with a BRNO 602 I...

    For Sale BRNO ZKK-602 375 H&H

Very pleased. Thankfully AWLee was patient. I was waffling since the stock didn't have cross bolts but prefer the higher comb on the rifle stock to the style CZ is offering now. Price drop made it even more difficult, but a local smith can handle the cross bolt install for me, along with...

Understand. The 9.3x74 caught my eye as a brush/hog rifle in the US but was having a hard time convincing myself that it was better than my 45-70 or 454 Casull lever rifles that I use currently. I'm pretty much settled on the 375 H&H in a bolt action rifle as my PG rifle. Focus is now on the...

    Checking in from CO

Interesting you would say that. I was drawn to the double rifle and 375 H&H due to the nostalgia associated with both. The more I read threads on this forum, the two together may not be the best combination depending on the quarry you are hunting. As you stated, the bolt action seems to be a...

Taking the 375 for Florida hogs

Used 120gr 300 Blackout on three we killed about 18 months ago in FL. None were very big with all weighing in around 100lbs. Shooting from a blind with a 1-6x scope, punching them ear to ear put them down quick. Wife wasn't too impressed. Said I shot Wilbur, but he tasted good.

Thanks Jerome. I think you may be right. At one point, I thought I would never buy a custom 1911 or a custom rifle only to find that they have become my normal. Reading books by Ruark and Hemingway definitely kindle the desire.

    Checking in from CO

Full disclosure, it was my emerging interest in double rifles that brought me to this site. Adding a 375 H&H double for no other reason than the classic design of the double rifle and history behind that cartridge. One in 30-06 would make for a nice brush gun as well. Hunting in Africa never...
