Needing Help.
Purchased a replacement safety from Legendary Action Works for Ruger No. 1 and it is not milled out correctly. It is putting the action in a bind. Seems like the slot the safety rides in, is not cut deep enough.
I've tried to find contact info for LAW, but no luck. Does anybody...

I zeroed for 200 yds for my 375HH Ruger No. 1 using Barnes TTSX 250s. With hand loads and after putting them through the chronograph I was 2.1” high at 100. I knew my drop at 300 and was comfortable if I had to take that shot. Shortest shot I took was 50 and longest at 210ish. That 200 yd zero...
I bought and wore the Danner USMC Rat GoreTex boots on my hunt back in June. Found them to be extremely comfortable, good foot bed and ankle support, and have held up well. I wear them for work boots in the woods etc when I’m not hunting. The boots gave me plenty of support when we were hiking...
Bought the Fury HD 5000 binos for my trip to Africa back in June. I qualify for one of their discounts which is another reason I went with them. For the price they’re hard to beat. Worked well for my dad and I. glad I made the purchase. Glass is clear, easy to use, and tough.

My experience was a bit different - in our stalk was not far and we didn’t have to chase after the giraffe. We knew the area the giraffe would be from hunting zebra a few days earlier and stopped to watch the herd of about 8-10 feeding. It was truly amazing to watch such a unique animal in its...
Just my experience with my No. 1 in 375 HH.
First, it is a great rifle and after using it on my safari, it is now one of my favorites. It’s a ‘proper’ rifle as a the river camp manager put it after taking a few shots. I’m sure it’ll become a favorite of yours too.
Second, I originally had a...
Haven’t seen them mentioned and my two cents..but DULUTHEX FIREHOSE WORK CARGO PANTS. Yes they are a hair pricey at $75 regular price but they. are. awesome. Never binded while hiking in the mountains, deep pockets with velcro closure, very tough, and resistant to the thorn feld. They come in...
Absolutely agree with the others in, ‘what says Africa to you?’ Plan your safari for your top animals and then have some money in your pocket for what you might come across. I was amazed at the amount of species of game there is. Once you’re there you can inquire about unsold tags or cow tags as...
When the shots were placed in the right spot none of the animals went farther than 30 yds. Looking back I guess that’s hard to beat. Attached are the pics from the carcass of my zebra. First pic is shot side and heck of an entrance hole.
Seems like I’m starting to contradict myself with my...

Ryan, we didn’t recover any bullets. The giraffe we didn’t dissect enough to get to one. On everything else, the shots were pass throughs.

Flatwater Bill, I was worried a bit about the lever gun as well. Referencing here first I was really worried cause I was reading through making sure I was squared away. This was 2 weeks before we least. Our guide hadn’t mentioned anything other than no semi autos. I checked SA regs and couldn’t...

Back home in Indiana, back to work, back to building my place, and taking care of things, finally time to get the report finished!
Waterbuck: After the time at the river camp we headed back to the main lodge in Winterton. My fiancé had mentioned how she thought a waterbuck...
The Report: The Hunting!
Outfitter: Wild Wing Safaris by Wayne Dunne
Wayne runs a fantastic operation based out of Winterton, KwaZulu-Natal. Lodge was very clean and well kept. The food was prepared fresh every day and tasted great. Laundry was done daily and done well. Very family oriented...
The Report: What I learned
First: Thanks to everybody who responded to posts and participated/participates in the forums of what to pack, tips, pointers, etc. Helped out a lot in planning.
Disclaimer: This was my first Safari. I learned a lot and found out what worked for me. I know there...
Ridge, we flew South African Airways direct from JFK to Joberg. Drove to JFK from Indiana, staying the night prior with family couple hours from the airport. For a 15hr flight it was easy, it helped that the plane wasn’t full and we could spread out a bit.
Update::
Arrived in Joberg at 8:25 am SA time and made our way through customs. Airport staff met us at the baggage carousel with rifle case on a dolly. After we collected our bags, staff escorted us to an office to sign a book for guns & ammunition. Then onto SAPS.
Our PH, Wayne, met us...
Just made it through TSA and waiting to board the plane here at JFK. Rifle check in was smoother than I though it would be (first time flying with firearms). TSA folks were courteous and easy to work with. SA receptionist was easy to work with.
Only set back was our (dad and I) ammunition...
Heading out for first Safari in a week and half with my dad. He purchased a BLR in 300 win mag specifically for the trip. His only complaint is it’s gloss finish and not a good ol oil finish he prefers. (Says he going to strip it and re-finish it when we get back). It’s also his first ‘high...
Heading for SA in just over a month - 42 days, but who’s counting? - on first Safari with my dad.
Our PH works with Universal Trophy Services in Pretoria. Looking at having hides for shoulder mounts tanned there to save on weight and cost. Also looking to have Zebra hide done as a rug there...
