    45-70 for dangerous game?

I have a 45-90 on the modern Marlin 1895 (same reciever as the 336), it can be done and is nothing short of impressive.

Sounds like a trip to a good Chiropractor and possibly an Acupuncturist, would help this issue quite a bit, if not solve the issue.

Cast lead bullets and lower power loads for plinking with the 470

Take a look at Bear Creek Supply, cheap lead bullets with a coating on them that prevents leading. They have a bullet for the 470 in the making, but have a 380 gr bullets that would work great as well.

Loading .458 WM with 300 gr interlocks

Personally I use H335 in my 45-90 and get great accuracy and precision from them. You have the luxury of using a system that can handle higher pressures, so this should help with your decision. Let me know how you like them, if you end up trying them out.

    Marlin 336 jammed

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen I saw it taken apart one time by a first timer and after he kept losing all the little parts, I decided to stick to the Marlin, by far my favorite lever-action rifle.

Glad I could be of assistance. The pivot pin is all that needs to be removed for the the lever to be taken out.

    Marlin 336 jammed

You should be able to push the round back into the magazine tube from the loading gate and try to load the rifle again. If this happens again, there is a good possibility that the finger lever has caused an indentation in the carrier that has to be repaired for proper function. This would also...

    Lever action on TAA

I definitely plan on taking one of my levers out to Africa, but until then the states will do. It's great I'm not the only one with the desire to hunt Africa with lever guns! Can't wait to see what a 50 AE with a 440 gr bullet will do to a lion out of my Marlin 1894!

    Lever action on TAA

It looks like a Turnbull 1886, so if the cartridge has a shoulder on it, it is possible that it could be a 475 Turnbull. If not, then any of the previously mentioned cartridges are a possibility.

    Marlin 375

The 375 will do plenty of good on plains game with well placed shots, within reasonable limits. I have a 45-90 on a Marlin 1895 that I would not be scared to use on anything, with a proper load. I also, have a 510 Kodiak Express being built that will be on par with factory 500 nitro loads out of...

    Lever action hunting rifle

If you are only wanting use them for thin-skinned game such a whitetail I would recommend a 35 Remington on Marlin 336. It has advantages over the 30-30, one of my favorite being a larger diameter bullet! If you wish to do more outside of that a, Marlin 1895 in 45-70 would and is my favorite...

    Liver Anyone?

Dehydrating the liver and making a supplement out of it, should work. The main thing is to identify the diet of the animal, whos liver you want to consume. If they are eating lots of poisonous plants and things our body can not deal with, the oxidants will remain in the liver; therefore, passing...

    The power of 45-70

Crs is right, it's time to move up to the 45-90! I did just that and have 1 of 3 Marlin 1895s chambered for it and it's more than enough for anything walking.

    Ron - long distance shooting

If it's long range you're looking for Bourbon Trail suggested some great ones above. If you're looking for something that's not as hard on the wallet, but still gives you the range you're looking for, I'd look at Mr. Tubb's array of XC (Xtra Capacity) cartridges. Ranging from 6XC to 41XC, with...

No one currently makes 500 Maximum, or as some call it the 500 Linebaugh Long. However, I'm sure that RCC brass would be more than happy to get it done for you. I know they customize headstamps and will even make wildcat brass. Also, a picture of this revolver is always welcome!

Think I've finally found a hunting load for the .44 mag leveraction

The 265 gr Hornady bullet that they designed for the 444 Marlin, works great in the 44 magnum! If you can find someone to modify the action to allow to cycle 44 magnum to 1.83" oal, you will have one heck of gun, but even without the modification the 265 Hornady is nothing to scoff at in the...

    Medium bore white tail caliber

I've grown up around lever guns all my life and the improved version of the 357 out performs most common 30-30 loads. Plus, being in Arkansas most shots are within 100-200 yards, but some sneak up on you at the 300 yard range.

    Medium bore white tail caliber

Personally for deer, my favorite medium bore is a Modified 1894C Marlin. We lengthened the OAL of the 357 that could feed through the action to approximately 1.83". Then we found the 180 gr Speer Hot-Cor and worked up a load to 1900 fps. It will absolutely lay the deer out and with next to no...

Why no lever-action rifle for Elephants?

Did you do the work on the Marlin yourself? It reminds me of Mic McPherson's work, with NP3 plating and Roguard, which is a beautiful combination! So I'm guessing this Marlin is chambered for a modified 50-110 with a slight taper to the case and probably slightly shortened, which Mic calls the...

Which rifle do we crown as the best looking ever?

I believe the Marlin Lever-action deserves a nod. Especially once it has been smoothed and made into something special. The second fastest on the first 2 shots, just behind the classic doubles, but second to none after that! It doesn't get much better than that.
