Getting ready to mount a Leupold VX6 onto a Pre-64 model 70 375 H&H. Had good luck in the past with Leupold QR mounts, but just wondering what everyone else’s experiences have been, and wondering what mounts would bE recommended for this setup.

PLEASE don’t take the original widow’s peak butt plate off. It is inletted at the top of the stock. So many Pre-64’s have had pads added, that its hard to find one in original condition. I took a Pre-64 in 300 H&H to the Limpopo region on my last safari, and it was perfect for plains game...

A chemical “case coloring” can look just as good (or better) and be almost as durable. Some alloy receivers can’t take traditional case hardening, but case coloring is another option.

I guess when you roll your own you do have a few more options. But almost any ammo can be found now on the interweb. ;)

I already have a Pre-64 Model 70 in 375 H&H. That’s what started this problem.

I’ve followed this thread the entire length, and there’s a lot of discussion concerning CZ actions, an some discussion about M70 Winchester actions. Ruger factory chambered their RSM rifle in 458 Lott. Any opinions on these actions?

Until I found someone willing to rebore, this was where I was going. I really wanted to keep the Winchester barrel profile, and all the Winchester markings. Besides, the rebore is cheaper than a rebarrel.

This particular model is just a little muzzle heavy, and I’m only trying to balance it a little bit by removing a small amount of metal from inside the barrel. :LOL::LOL::LOL:

What about putting a reflex sight on a DGR? You don’t get the magnification for a long shot, but how often do you really make a long shot that needs magnification? Opinions on this set up for a DGR are appreciated.

Looks like Randy Selby will be doing the rebore, rerifle and rechambering to 404 Jeffery. Also having the action bedded and a one inch red Pachmyer Decelerator recoil pad installed for good measure. A CRF Winchester Model 70 in the classic 404 Jeffery. I can hardly wait!
