    Elephant with a bow?

The issue is not about ability, its about „going wrong“! How many animals are injured and lost? Watching this „brave“ guys hunting for african dangerous game with bows there is always a PH with lots of Hellfire out of a big game rifle strolling around in the background for backup if the going...

    Elephant with a bow?

In another post they write about a monster calibre like 700 NE shooting Elefant, in this post some dream about throwing toothpicks at Elefants ?? Its not about what can be done, its about what should be done! The human obligation to kill an animal instantly in shortest time the safest way...

    Offhand vs. Sticks

If You're out there in the bush, ready for shooting, there is in the most cases a long pre-story means, You were first flying there, driving there, going out searching for game, tracking game, stalking game and then observing game. All this makes You hot, so hot that You are in a shaking...

When is the load good enough for Dangerous Game

It's a sort of foreplay....sitting on Your loading bench and test and test and test... Good side effect: You handle and shot Your gun regular! I was never a friend of this high-precision-hole-in-hole-accuracy. My hard spots at loading ammo were first -bullet performance (if the bullet with...

    .416 for plains game?

Big bore for all african and plains hunting? I tried this with my .425 Magnum Express with 350 Grain bullets for some time. The result was quiet sobering! Those big bore bullets are too stout, that they don't open enough because of missing tough skin and tissue, so they work actually like...

    .416 for plains game?

I did quiet some plain game shooting with my custom .425 Magnum Express (400 Grain at 2400 fps, so it's about the same language), with the idea of getting used to the gun and being prepared when hunting the bigger chaps. The problem is, that if You have to do quick shooting (that happens all the...

    Sad thoughts...

Around 1982, I came to Southern Africa to spend some voluntary time on a farm, which finally turned into 15 great years, or better into "best-time-of-my-life" which I never will forget! Now in Europe, most things have changed! I spend my offtime not in the wild, as I did in Africa. No, my "wild"...

Hey guys, rebated rim? Here's the interesting story (from Wikipedia) about that rebated rim and a big game cartridge, which never made it actually: The .425 Westley Richards (11x67mmRB) is one of the classic African big-game rounds. It is a cartridge invented by Leslie Bown Taylor of Westley...

    400 H&H

Yeah, around 2400 feet is always a good level to be in. The .411 diameter brings also some more "juice" into business. I experienced the same with those parameters and had great success on my hunts and wonderful times on african grounds. Isn't it all about that? Recoil: I believe that the 400...

    400 H&H

I had once this sort of cartridge in my hand and that was the 400 (Pondoro?) from A-square, Alphin advertised personal when displaying on the Nürnberg gun Show more than 20 years ago. In my opinion its too close to 375, which has good parameters in speed and bullet weight, and not far enough...

For those that can't afford the Rigby Big Game or Heym Express, What's the next best thing?

In my opinion, get a gun that fits your body and mental condition. My best results were achived with custom guns. Go to a gun smith of Your choice, sit down, drink coffee and talk with him for a while. After that, You will get what You want and need!

    The next best calibre?

In Your answer I can see, that You don‘t even catch, what I‘m talking about. You can take an Eland or Giraffe even with a 22lfb. Hit the right spot and You are done. So why do You use a 30-06 then? By the way too: A moose falls dead if You talk loud at it. To compare it to african game in any...

    The next best calibre?

Oh yes mate, with a 300 Win You would have been undergunned for sure. A 300 Win Mag is great for plains, but a good Eland or giraffe bull go about or higher 1000 kg. Thats the floor of Buffalo allready. Even a Zebra stud has some surprises for You. Just a little move by the animal or mistake...

If the 9,3x64 would have the bullet selection available like the 375, there would be much more demand for sure. This cartridge is truly hell, well designed and highly effective. @forest Halley I'm not mad, are You ?? The one who needs help, seems to be You! But wait, I will help You! Yes, 450 Grain Bullets for the 458 Winni is that what makes me real hot for this cartridge. Easy brass, easy reloading and equipment, normal sized action, easy recoil, handable rIfle weight and so on. In combination with 350 grainers for plainsgame, the good old .458 is versatile like rubber...

Hell no .....310 Grain out of a .35 Whelen?? Is the Whelen meant for something like that, shoving POPEYE into Your gun ? ;) In my opinion (and You know I like easy), much well-thought-out would be in this weight class .375 (H&H or RUGER) and You can do 300 Grain all day long never being...

    The .358 Norma

The .358 Norma is something like a thick goldchain around Your neck, its nice to have, but You really don't need it. The .358 is the same, too close to the .338 Winni and not too far away from .375 H&H. To test it the ultimative way, built three guns, all the same with 338, 358 and 375H&H...

    Practicing With Dangerous Game Rifles

Being around a while in africa, I saw lots of „problems“ foreign hunters had with their equipment. The most appearing fail I noticed was the …… safety of the gun. So many hunters did, when being in pre-shot contact with game, just forgot to release the safety before doing the trigger which...

    HUNTING Eland

Nice Elands...nice hunting! What I'm worried about ist, that some calibers mentioned, won't be a good choice for hunting such a big animal. 30-06 even with 220 Grain are beneath the lowest caliber I would advise any hunter, if the bugget list shows also Eland.
