Hi Shootist, Mine’s in .416 and it seemed like the wood used was rather low grade. As a preemptive measure, I bought the MacMillan composite stock and it’s been a wonderful ever since. Giving up the wood before any real problems is pretty obsessive for sure, but now it’s a workhorse. FWIW.

Yeah, and Swaro has an especially nice rail with teeth to help prevent any movement. Problem for U.S. market is that even though Swaro, Zeiss, and S&B have very nice integral rail scopes, they haven’t caught on well here for some reason. So, ordering, waiting, etc. Certainly not impossible...

Congrats! Have one. Retrofitted with a McMillan stock, AHR safety parts…. No idea who to get to it have it installed. A sad day when these stopped rolling out of their factory.

Got an R8 steel receiver, along with some Selous big bore barrels. What a setup, a beautiful gun. So what’s my obsession? Getting the 550 (.416) smoothed out, synthetic stock, Timney, Warne rings for the 550, and parts for a Model 70-like safety. Must be the fear of losing the R8 in airline...

Totally agree….the big bores gave CZ a lot of positive notoriety. At the show, it seemed like everyone had a 6.5, 7, or 300 super duper chambering of some kind in their product lines. The pistol gripped metal frames have made that jump from the bench to hunting, many in that $1100-2000 range...

Mauser’s display here in Nashville just has the M98, including the DWM which is very cool, and the M18. Their 2023 “catalog” is nothing more than a small pamphlet, showing the 98 and 18.
