@CBH Australia I have the Mesa in 7-08, and it's a good gun. Shoots straight and is lightweight. No complaints from me.

Prince Harry sells his Purdey rifles

I have questions as to why he sold them. Shouldn't they have enough money, he could I don't know loan them or gift them to his brother/nephews, and then use them again if he so chose to? Guns are heirlooms in my opinion, and not to be sold at a whim.

7mm-08 a not so hidden gem

Ugh I hate that for you. And yes social media is horrible regarding swaying people's opinions on hunting/farming/ranching, but hunters on social media don't help things. Some people post the most gory things they can, which is instantly off-putting to people who don't know anything about hunting.

Prince Harry sells his Purdey rifles

This was by far one of the most entertaining things I've read in a while. A bunch of dudes talking crap on "famous" people. Surprised no one mentioned Megan doing voice overs on Disney's latest elephant "movie." I think Prince William has supported hunting as a means to conservation for...

    Best Hunting/Honeymoon Destination?

Hawaii if you are dead set on hunting. If you would opt to fish rather than hunt, Florida Keys (go after tarpon, bonefish, permit), Belize, the options are endless if you go this route.

    Clearing Customs in Atlanta

If you are going, and don't have global entry (we didn't do it because the nearest global entry place is forever away from where we live, not really, more like 4 hours), look into Mobile Passport. I filled out all our customs stuff on the plane, snapped some photos of us and when we landed we...

Bringing Home a Finished Zebra Rug in Suitcase??

I bought a few purses made of springbok hide in Jo'berg, and they supplied some paperwork in case customs on the US side was being cranky. Just make sure you have the accompanying paper work from the taxidermist in case they want to be sticklers.

Tips tricks and ideas for long flights -- help a brother out

The saline nasal spray is a lifesaver. I got a bloody nose after several days in the hunting truck. Also look into bromelain. It's a supplement that helps reduce inflammation in your sinuses. I take it religiously on flights. It's sort of hippy, but I think it helps.

Tips tricks and ideas for long flights -- help a brother out

I think the mental anguish building up to the flight is the worst. I can live with no sleep, just more of a PITA than normal. So part of it is prepping yourself mentally for it. "This is going to suck, but the end result will outweigh this crap of a 15-17 hours." After having done the...

    Experiences With Shot Placement

Sometimes I don't think deer get the credit they deserve for being tough. I've seen one with it's heart sliced in half, and lungs hit run 150 yds (bow kill). They can definitely surprise you with how far they can run. I do agree with the sentiment of this thread though. I hunt whitetail with...

Tips tricks and ideas for long flights -- help a brother out

@Red Leg - The good doc said we could have alcohol with it. It was a really low dose. I don't think he realized I would drink whiskey with it though. I'm guessing he assumed I might have a glass of wine, like a classy lady. :E Rofl:

    Rudolph Quad Shooting Sticks

We shot off the European set of these in Africa per our outfitters suggestion/loan. We had practiced on bipod sticks (out to 250yds), but he sent these with us. Partially guessing because I'm a girl he figured I needed all the help I could get. In all honesty, I wasn't a fan. I would...

Tips tricks and ideas for long flights -- help a brother out

Try the pharmaceuticals. I went to our primary care physician, and he prescribed us generic xanax. My husband is a sleep talker/walker, so he was afraid sleeping pills might have an adverse reaction. However, I in all my infinite female wisdom, thought "Oh hell one of these cute little pills...

Pre-safari planning: Location of lodge/hunting concession

The more I think about this the more I think it sound so bogus. Anyone with any common sense regarding the "interwebs" knows IP addresses can be tracked. Why would you admit via the internet you had rhinos, if you were worried about poachers? Rhino poaching is big money, and I would be hard...

Pre-safari planning: Location of lodge/hunting concession

Everything he said! My advice would be looking into operators/outfitters that someone you know personally has gone with? We went with an outfitter that several people we knew had gone with at least once if not more than once. I also know where our lodge was, wasn't "close" (surrounded by)...

    Zebra Rug

My zebra hide is at the rugger (stateside) currently, and I'm just wondering what everyone has paid to have their zebra rugs done? Mine won't be done on felt, just the leather backing with rings. I'm super excited to have it back, but also curious at what it generally costs. Also I want to...

Is there an African animal you wouldn't shoot?

This times 10! I think if a person wants to hunt an animal they should. Backlash or not. However we each have the ability to keep some things (the photos of possible backlash animals) private. Educate those closest to you who know the type of person you are, and your moral code about the...

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Bayete Group?

I have no horse in this race, but why would a PH pay cash up front when you A. might not see the intended animal to hunt. B. you might not get a solid shot and/or could miss. Maybe it's common practice, but I'm a fan of trusting your gut. If it feels shady, it probably is.

    Chris Brackett Sentenced Yesterday

I think this was part of the issue. He shot the first buck, and pretended "he couldn't recover it" after seeing and shooting the second bigger buck. I also think the 30k fine was probably related to the fact he committed the act, then tried to conceal it, lied about it, blah blah blah then it...

    Travelling light

I used roll up vacuum seal bags, and got all of my husband and I's hunting clothes in one carry on bag. Bino's/camera/kindle/important sh*t was in our backpacks. We took a checked bag because I'm a serial over packer, and I left a ton of stuff with our PH. Poor kiddo probably thought I was...

    Traveling to Limpopo

We flew Delta, got picked up at the airport and driven straight to hunting camp. Was it a lot of sitting? Absolutely, but we were able to start hunting the next morning after sighting in bows. Limpopo was beautiful, and in all honesty I was so glad we went straight to camp after we landed...

Thoughts On Bringing Vs Renting Rifles To Africa

We opted to take our bows, and rent a rifle for when we chose to rifle hunt. I have absolutely no complaints about renting other than my dumba$$ wasn't used to the safety on the rented rifle, and pulled the trigger on safe on a MONSTER 58"+ Kudu, and before I realized what the hell stupidity I...

    Coming back with rifle

If you don't travel often, look into the "mobile passport" app. It's from Customs and Border Patrol. You complete all your entry paperwork on your phone and add a selfie within like 3 hours of landing. This puts you in shorter line. We were at the gun room behind one global entry person, but...

Any Regulations for with Traveling with Bow

We left our cases unlocked when we checked into the airport, since they look like gun cases. We showed the gate agent they were bow cases then locked them up with TSA locks, and zip tied the remaining hasps. In RSA coming home we didn't show them they were bows, just declared them as such...

Last minute PH change...should I be concerned?

@Nyamazana Safaris put it right when he said "we make our own luck I truly believe in that .. have fun try not to put too much pressure on your PH and work with him." I have fished with guides far more extensively than I have hunted with guides, and 9 times out of 10 a younger guide has a...

Last minute PH change...should I be concerned?

Offshore Drilling Rush Could Transform South Africa

@Hogpatrol I mean that "overseas" work generally means more money, so the bigger trophy room/trophy house would be easier to attain. Unless I spent it all on guns/optics/ammo & hunts. :E Rofl: Literally while we were over there, I was like hmm the company I work for has operations on this...

    Why do you hunt?

I often liken hunting to being truly in God's church. There is nothing that grounds a person better than seeing all of the wonderful creations of our Heavenly Father in their natural state. It's deeply calming, and peaceful, all while being mesmerizing. It is also one of the most challenging...

@Hogpatrol it could have been less. In all honesty, I don't remember. And if it is highway robbery, we'll claim it as a stupid tax. I wanted to get rands sent to our house (pretty sure it was fairly cheap), and my husband claimed we wouldn't need them, and then changed his mind like the day...

I personally prefer to think bourbon or whiskey can give me electrolytes, but in the event I have too many of those drinks I prefer Ultima Replenisher. We converted cash at the airport in ATL, and it didn't seem like a huge rip off (maybe $30 for $300 turned into rands, and trust me I've wasted $30 on a lot stupider stuff), and you can convert any left over money back for free as long as you have the receipt when you fly back through.
