I really enjoyed reading your report Mark. Thank you again for the advice you gave me the other day. I will be going with Marius in June next year. I hope it goes as well as your hunt. Congratulations!
Magnificent shot. I have to pull and then reload some new .416 Rigby cartridges and replace the projectiles with Woodleigh Hydros. Hunting for a bull elephant next year. My rifle is a scoped Mauser 98E. Sure hope I can do as well. Did you use sticks or freehand?
Hi guys. Can anyone tell me the best way to get to Botswana from Australia without transiting in South Africa. I want to avoid the hassle of getting a temporary South African firearms permit just transit to Botswana and later back again through South Africa.
Horsehide is potentially easy to get in Australia. Brumbies (wild horses) are a prolific imported pest and landowners are expected to get rid of them; well at least in Victoria. Usually the shot Brumbies are just left for the wild dogs (another introduced pest) to eat. I never new there was a...
No, I actually only feel comfortable sharing my hunting experience on this forum @AfricaHunting.com. The moderators have done such a great job protecting our privacy and keeping discussion focused on our mutual passion of hunting and conservation.
Welcome @piggywiggy308. Yeah Border Force does not like unannounced visits. They got crook at me in Sydney last year. I am flying Qatar Melb to Windhoek via Doha in July. ABF has a new RGP form by the way. I posted details. I enjoy fox shooting on our family’s farm with a .223 :-)
Here is some information from Australia Border Force which may be useful for hunters temporarily taking rifles from Australia. I am going through the process and there is a new Restricted Goods Permit (RGP) form DC07. Also they asked me to fill in a B957 Export Declaration form. I hope this...
LION HUNT IN THE KALAHARI
September 2022
The adventure began on a hunt in South Africa in early 2020 with my brother and Marius Goosen from @KMG Hunting Safaris. It was my first African Safari. Covid had just started and no one was taking much notice in Africa. Anyway we started talking about...
Thank you very much Gentlemen.
We have been booked at the Safari Court Hotel with airport shuttle to the international airport. It is next to the domestic airport apparently.
Best regards,
Sjakon
Guys,
My brother and I are hunting in Namibia late July. Can anyone recommend a good quality hotel near the Windhoek airport? Flight leaves early morning so need to overnight after last day hunting.
Thanks for any advice
Hi,
I am in Victoria Australia. I need to load a bunch of 450gr RN SN bullets in .416 Rigby. I have ADI powder AR2217. I can not find any data in my reloading manuals. Going to Namibia in July and want to get ready.
Does anyone here have experience with reloading these bullets?
Thank you...
Hi everyone and especially Aussie Hunters in Victoria. Has anyone taken a rifle from Melbourne to Windhoek on Qatar Airways. The flight I booked has 2.5 hours transit in Doha. Same Airline all the way. Going end of July-August.
Thanks for any input/advice
Sjakon
My Mauser 98E in .416 Rigby with scope and fully loaded with 400gr ammo weighs a bit less than 6 kg. Moderate recoil especially when a buff is in the scope :)
It was 3 years ago. The rifle was a .375 loaned to me by one of our PH. I believe it was a CZ. I was told under no circumstance shoot less than 3 times. One at the end of the smile, once in the neck and one behind the shoulder. The first shot killed it. Bullet broke up and pierced the brain...
Gentlemen, thank you very much for the input and your kind words. I am having second thoughts of relegating my lion to less than full mount. You are right it is a magnificent regal beast. Just need to negotiate with the Mrs now
Guys, I shot a lion and the taxidermist has a full cape. I really do not have enough room at home for a full mount. What is your opinion of a full cape lion rug mount. Other option is a pedestal mount with just the head. Thanks for any thoughts.
I think he meant cataract surgery which sometimes is done with laser. You still have to aspirate the cataract though whether the incision is by a blade or by laser. I am an ophthalmologist and had my cataracts removed last year at 68.
Last month went to Kalahari and it was fantastic. Just used...
My late father Julius Tahija shot this Sumateran tiger in 1972 with a semiautomatic Remington 12ga loaded with 00 Buckshot. He was running Caltex Indonesia. Fired two quick shots at the tiger but they only found 1 pellet which hit the brain. He shot everything with it including pigs and Sambar...
