Not the best pics, but a couple of the rifle.

Classic Cartridge ideas for a 1909 Argentinian build

So top contenders at the moment continue to be 9.3x62, 300H&H, or .350 Rigby NE. I have pondered the .300 for a few years but for some reason I’ve never been a .30 cal person.

Classic Cartridge ideas for a 1909 Argentinian build

I know the .425 doesn’t do middle of the road much but I have wondered about owning one mostly

Classic Cartridge ideas for a 1909 Argentinian build

So today i acquires a rather handsome 1909 that’s been mildly sporterized. Luckily no modifications have been done to the metal. I currently have a .275 Rigby and .404 rifle. I want to build a middle of the road cartridge leaning abit more on the larger bore side of things. I’m looking for ideas...

Best route to learn of early Rigby rifles?

what would be a good source to learn more about how early Rigby Mausers were built? Pics, parts used, barrel lengths, etc? For example would a Mauser 7x57 have been rebarreled for .275 or merely a remark of a factory Mauser barrel?

Best dies for .404 currently out?

Definitely a knowledge drop! I may go with the Redding for now and I’m going to look into the custom die once my rifle is built.

Best dies for .404 currently out?

Hornady of course comes in the cheapest and I’ve had no complaints with their die sets before but would I be any better served with Redding or RCBS?

Gunsmith recommendations to build a Mauser into 404J

I’m going to look further at the MRC but I’ve also had two phone conversations with Mr Olson and I’m waiting an itemized email quote to determine by best route. He seems very well spoken of

Gunsmith recommendations to build a Mauser into 404J

I spoke with MRC. Besides fire blue of the trigger and some smaller components the conversation seemed to point in them building my way as long as i don’t mind waiting. And by that would involve me sourcing a front sight, preferred express leaf sight, and barrel band. Given the financial costs...

Gunsmith recommendations to build a Mauser into 404J

I’m actually planning to call Montana Rifle this afternoon to talk custom options. Prices seem phenomenal if the reliability is there. I’m unfamiliar with them although seeing they offer a .275 Rigby option I’m inclined to as I’d love to have another .275 Rigby rifle in the safe

Gunsmith recommendations to build a Mauser into 404J

I’m looking for more of a working rifle. It’s primary quarry will be bear but with African plans as well. My vision is a 21” barreled rifle with express sights and possibly a claw mount system for the optic. Blued/fire blued trigger/accents. No engraving, M70 style safety with a drop belly...

Gunsmith recommendations to build a Mauser into 404J

I should also mention I have access to a Columbian Mauser as well that a friend would be willing to sell. I understand they were designed for a slightly larger cartridge length than some other large rings.

Gunsmith recommendations to build a Mauser into 404J

I strongly considered using my M70 .375 for the project but the Mauser action seems more proper

Gunsmith recommendations to build a Mauser into 404J

Looking for stateside smiths to build a 1909 Argentinian Mauser action into .404 Jeffery. Who do you guys recommend? The rifle will be in harms way in the future so feeding is paramount! A couple people I’ve spoke to seemed okay doing the rechambering but seemed less than confident on function...

Input wanted from owners of new production Model 70 Safari Express rifles

    I wish they’d make a M70 in .404! I’d be hurling money at it

Input wanted from owners of new production Model 70 Safari Express rifles

Ok I think I’m gonna go with this. I was also looking at the Sako rifles but I much prefer the 3-position safety. Slightly shortening the barrel may balance abit better and shed some of the weight.

Input wanted from owners of new production Model 70 Safari Express rifles

hi, Im new here and looking for input. I have the opportunity to get my hands on a brand new Model 70 Safari Express next week and I would like opinions on it. It’s my understanding that these are now Portuguese made weapons? I haven’t handled one in person to get a feel for it’s quality. I’m...
