    Ruger American Compact

Had many of them running trough my shop. The .223s were ok regarding accuracy, but nothing special. The .308s were tack drivers. I have a .300 BLK thats also near 1/2 MOA with Hornady VMax and all working great. My stainless .338 is around MOA - so exactly what to expect from a cheap gun. The...

    Converting a 7.92x57 Mauser to .35 Whelen

First off, there are .323 „S“ Barrels on .318 non S-Barrel (you cant find much non S). The Proof test was maximum pressure plus 30% (now it 25%). Some of the best Mauser actions came from Austria made by Steyr. But often some Gunbutchers heated up the action, if the barrel didnt came of...

    Pulldowns of Factory Loads...

PPU should use a Lovex powder also obtainable as canister powder or so close, it doesnt matter. Lovex was the manufacturer of Accurate for a long time some yrs ago. So if you could not get your hands on Lovex, buy Accurate! There is a comparison chart.

6.5x55 Win M70- Nosler ballistic tip and Hornady Interlok bullets

For 140s you really should get N560, MRP or 4831 Powder. Use a FED 215 Primer and let it sing between 47.5grs and a bit north of 50, if you know how to watch for pressure. My goto Load with 140 Interlock is 49.5grs N560 (not the top…) and 140 SST with 50grs of MRP

    Heym 7x64

You can buy such rifles over here for 500,— Its nothing special. And you cant compare them to a SR21. The SR21 is a perfect and accurate rifle with the smoothest running action you can buy today in a factory rifle.

    175gr Nosler Partition in 7x64

The load data of Vith is very conservative regarding charge weight. Real world performance should be better with a good amount of N160. I get top velocitys with 2520 equiv. D073.6 and a light lead free bullet. Mid weight lead free runs nice with N550. The performance of a 7x64 really starts...

    Optics for a 44 Magnum

I have a H2 Aimpoint on my Raging Hunter 8 3/8 .44 Mag. - rugged and endless battery life. Some dont linke Taurus — but all of them in my cabinet are well made, reliable and accurate. They don’t have the best reputation, but I like them and trust them.

    Velocity Loss With Shorter Barrels

Calling FACTS bullshit and rubbish and Not beeing able to know the difference between austria and australia is a good start. ‍♂️ most of the powder will burn in the barrel - only some flakes or kernels leave the barrel. Most of the time this happens on low pressure reloads. Powder is a chemical...

    Velocity Loss With Shorter Barrels

there is no need for long barrels if you dont want to shoot the moon. shorter handles way better - especially with added suppressors. if you cut it shorter, you can go with a thicker barrel at same weight. short and thick is stable - better groups or less tricky with different loads.

    Velocity Loss With Shorter Barrels

you can calculate loss in GRT - the amount of loss matches to single digit numbers my measurements. unburnt powder very seldom leaves the barrel, cause powder burns near the chamber. so even if you dont have 100% of burn, powder stays in barrel and burns there until its gone. i dont care about...

    Velocity Loss With Shorter Barrels

Short barrels arent a big problem today. My 450 Rigby is 22“ I cut back my .338 WM from 24“ to 20“ with a minimal loss of Speed. Same with 9,3x62 - from 22“ back to 18,5“. The 8x57 got cut to 16“ instead of the factory 22“ The „longer“ barrels for 7x64, 6,5x55 and .22-250 are 22“

    338 WM Help

    28 Gauge Recommendations

    Too much crimp

I dont think you damaged your barrel - as long as you dont shot a bullet on a stucking ring, all should be good. So shooting it should not be a problem - but after every shot, i would check the barrel if there is remaining brass. BUT THAT IS MY OPINION. If your crimp is so severe to part off a...

Best Red Dot/RMR for 458 Lott

As Im from Austria, you can bet i have looked through every Swarovski more then once - and as i run a gunshop, you can bet i looked through all good optical things on the market. The "small window" as you state it doesnt exist, if you focus on the target and not on your optics. As you aim...

Best Red Dot/RMR for 458 Lott

With a scope you aim with the reticle (also with red dots with more than a point - so the ring around dot sucks) - with a good red dot you focus on your target. You want to hit the target and not the reticle - so why look on the reticle and not on your target. When you have a fight with...

Best Red Dot/RMR for 458 Lott

The most rugged sights are made by Aimpoint. I use the H2 model on rifles of all bore sizes (including 450 Rigby) - the ACRO also will fit your needs. I mainly use 2 MOA dots - for a big bore i would use a 4 MOA dot.

    450 Dakota Load Development

The load is ok - but 15% of your powder will burn in front of your barrel - around 15% will not deliver power to your bullet, but puff away in smoke and fire. This means, that a faster powder would be better - but i load the 450 Rigby also with that kind of powder (Lovex S070 - its approx...

    450 Dakota Load Development

The figures match the softwaresimulation pretty good - with this load, you have less than 85% of powder burn in barrel - should be a real hefty fireball in front of your cannon.

    Sako Brown Bear 500 Jeffery

The Sako is very well made and the concept is perfect. The only downside (if you can call it that way) is - NO REAL CRF. Its "kind of crf" and way better than a push feed and when you work the actian fast enough, the chance is small, that a round will not make it into the chamber. The front...

    Sako Brown Bear 500 Jeffery

You can bet at significant recoil! I have the Brown Bear in .450 Rigby - the weight is on the low side, the barrel is short and recoil is stout. With high pressure loads it is very sharp - more a kick than a push. with normal loads its manageable.

What makes a double go OUT of regulation???

Franz himself was a master gunsmith - but Franz Sodia guns sell really cheap (or most of them), cause most of them are MASS PRODUCED guns and many of them still around never reached the hands of the master himself. These are mostly well made guns, but only a few of them were produced by the...

    A Question For Gunsmiths

For most rough shooting, a 28 Gauge is with me - 7/8 Oz. of No. 6s or 5s do the trick easily. 6.5x55 - 140 Grain Reload Velocity?

You SHOULD be safe with 48grs of 4831 - this powder uses approx. the same data als N560!!! I load even more.... but every reloader is self responsible - so you have to decide what to do. every gun and lot of powder is different.

    6.5x55 - 140 Grain Reload Velocity?

Hey - I´m geting 2930 fps with 120grs NBT out of a 22" Barrel! Its not a high pressure load - so easy going. I use Norma brass, Fed. 215M GMM and a good dose of MRP (max load by Norma...)! No recoil and no signs of pressure (not a bit on primer and no case head swelling).

Anyone has experience with Blaser R8?

But not to rate the Blaser bad - it works as it should and is accurate, but not my "thing"! The proportions on the R93 were better - was more balanced "for me", but not as strong as the R8 (and that brought me to the R8). Would hunt with an R8 immediately, cause it's a good rifle - but if I...

Had two R8 with a couple of barrels - sold all of that. Accuracy was good, but these rifles are put together without love - and you can feel it when you grab it. If you take a Heym, its so well put together and you feel that real craftsmen were in the building process. I have three brands of...

Hi from Austria (no - not the island with "Ruuhs" jumping around)

Good question - but easy answer! You ONLY should use a dot - no fuzzy triangles, donuts around dot or other "new age" stuff - K.I.S.S. principle counts here, cause fuzzy things draw your focus to the reticle and not to the vitals of your quarry. The DOT ONLY works with your brain - not against...

Hi from Austria (no - not the island with "Ruuhs" jumping around)

Hi Art, depends on the way you like to mount it - if your gun is ready for claw mounts or twist mounts, you can use 30mm rings and a tubular sight of proper length to fit the distance between your rings - i specially like the older 9000 Model with 2 MOA. If you build a new rifle (or let...

Hi from Austria (no - not the island with "Ruuhs" jumping around)

You dont need it, cause a .243 will (and does) work also, but on driven game, where you dont always hit perfectly, a little more "ooomph" is nice - but using a "stopper" is never necessary - but we HAVE to hold numbers low on boars anyways, so why not having fun with big bore guns? I like to...
