Just to clarify, as I have stated several times the offer was made to me because of the relationship I formed with the owner and the PH. I didn't know it would be illegal but as yet haven't had an opportunity to take them up on it.
Yes, I took it as a compliment that they would trust me to be...
O
Not trying to pick a fight at all. Just trying to contribute honesty and genuinely. If people choose to take offence that's up to them. my greatest fear is that one day I won't be able to hunt in places like Africa because short sightedness ruined it for the next generation. Robust...
Heaven forbid a hunter should ever have to be self sufficient?! If it is illegal then every PH who has ever dropped a bowhunter at a blind for the day, even with a radio and or a tracker has broken the law? This is standard procedure for many many PHs. The gaols must be overflowing.
I remember it only too well. Lion imports are banned into Australia as a result. I had to cancel a lion hunt. Which is why I keep on about ethical fair chase.
If South African PHs are so highly skilled, explain why they require African trackers again? Why is it that when game is taken the tracker gets called? I've seen many PHs rely very heavily on their African assistants. I'm sure I'll be in good hands with a tracker...
If I was hunting in a...
I'm talking about a different outfitter. Very well respected. I just got along with them very well and he made me the offer as a show of respect and I accepted it. I'd happily work for him for free.
I have an agreement to hunt on my own because I want to. I want the experience of being the one calling the shots and the outfitter has agreed to loan me his truck and a tracker. I'm taking it as a huge compliment.
That's a bit of new information. Can I ask how you know? Has it been verified? I thought I'd been properly educated on the subject but apparently not!
When I was in hospital a nurse asked me when I was at my worst if I would ever go back to Africa knowing what might be waiting for me. I...
I'm going to play devils advocate. My advice is not based on theory but real on the ground experience with archery gear in Africa. I'm not saying that you need to take it but just wanted to give you some hopefully useful advice.
1. Your arrows are not too heavy to be effective.
2. VPA...
I'm disappointed by the lodge mentality of African hunting. I swear if I hear one more rich American rattle the ice in his glass in hope that someone might fetch him a top up...
I'd like to see a return to traditional tented camps. I'd pay more for a tented camp than the pretence of a faux...
Sneaking up on Kudu in socks with archery gear is hard to beat. Those ears miss nothing. Had two big bulls fighting at twenty yards one day. What a show!
The shear size of eland take my breath away when they step out of the bush. Nice big target for the arrow to find though!
Crawling up on...
Not really. I was there in may and crawling around the long green grass with my bow. A zebra I shot was loaded with them. The oxpeckers looked like they were struggling to take off, they were so full!
I had it a few years ago. I must have got a proper dose because I was very very sick. I found the bite site after it had dropped off the back of my calf muscle.
Symptoms kicked in a week after I was home. My GP was an RSA expat. He said I probably had malaria given the severity of my...
I've hunted with the compound bow but only do walk and stalk. I think from a blind it doesn't really matter what your gear is,eventually you'll shoot something - if you don't die of boredom first.
My future hunts will involve walk and stalk hunts with traditional muzzle-loading flintlock rifle...
G'day boys.
Been lurking for too long. Decided to join the fun. Been to Africa a few times with the bow but recently did a successful trip with the muzzle-loading rifle ( traditional)
Looking forward to many more trips as finances allow.
I practice fair chase hunting and walk and stalk all...
