I don't think shotgun / mount manufacturers have quite got it right yet when it comes to red dots and shotgun mounts.
What I really want is the ability to put on a red dot and remove it without anything remaining in the sight plain for shooting a bird barrel.
Scrummy
I get the impression "Turkey Barrel" tends to mean "shorter so handier for sneaking around woods, definitely multichoke, ideally cammo and tends to come with fibre optic rifle style sights"
Don't see why if you were willing to tune your choke you'd get better or worse patterns out a 24" vs 28"...
Those 1301s do look good.
Accomplished is something I'm not so sure about. We have a few competitions a year here where we shoot slugs at time limited turning targets which is a hoot though. If you's trying hard you might do 150-200 slugs in a morning (Shooting both pump action and semi-auto...
Yeah, Mossberg seem to be really on it.
Could maybe be persuaded by "945" (940 in 3.5") with a 28" multi choke barrel and a 24" Turkey barrel (We can't have rifle barrels on semi autos and pumps here)
I shall watch that video with interest.
Just checked we can get the Browning Cynergy and 525 Game One over here with 3.5” chambers…
Add LPA sights for Buck / slugs….

I have red dots on a few long guns with a variety of positions:
Back of receiver (Both slug shot guns)
And one replacing the rear notch sight on my 9.3x62 which is further forward:
I would say the near eye option is perhaps easier to be precise with, the in front of the receiver design...
Could well be a thing. My 3" chambered semi-auto really doesn't change POI much with different brands / weights / Cartridge lengths of slugs.
The 3.5" chambered Benelli is sensitive to different loads (particularly length changing windage). I'm wondering if the jump to the forcing cone doesn't...
I have several Burris fastfires as they are excellent value in my opinion. The Leica red dot is excellent on my 9.3x62 bolt gun. For the AR I can't really help. I hear good things about the Vortex Venom as another choice. Try and get one you can change the battery without dismounting the optic.
More compact, lighter and a more forgiving eye box.
I have a 1-6 Meopta on my 404 Jeff and it's pretty quick but it isn't as quick as 9.3 with the Leica red dot.
Is anyone else more and more liking red dots on their long guns. I've suddenly noticed I've gotten rather a few.
It started with me looking for a way to put an optical sight on my 9.3x62 - an old hunting rifle that wasn't drilled and tapped so a scope wasn't an option but a good buddy of mine...
If you tap a cartridge on the side of your action to make the ping, the German wild boar will think you're empty and come out, then you get 'em!
(Parody of the Garand "Ping" before I'm told of...)
I must admit I'm not sure why people really insist on putting rimless cartridges in doubles / break actions, rimmed cases just work better.
Also in rimmed cases you can do an awful lot:
.22 Centre Fire - 5.6x57 Rimmed gives you 220 Swift eating performance (Slightly annoying larger bullet...
I have a Leica 2MOA on my 9.3x62 and like it a lot. Also had good experience with Burris Fastfire 3s (I own 3: 2 on sling set up semi-autos and 1 on the side of an 8x56 fixed scope).
Not sure they work on the RMR footprint though.
Here's a handy guide...
