    Wanted .416 Rigby Bolt Action

Ok. No chance your rifle is a milsurp. Your rifle is made in `57 right? Thats about when they started making those Brevex actions. The Brevex actions are made on the original Mauserwerke Oberndorf machinery transported to France after WWII. It could be that the first ones made are made "true" to...

    Wanted .416 Rigby Bolt Action

No thumb cut. I don`t think any of those Brevex actions have thumb cut. @John Telford here posted this one in another tread. I think Tony Sanches is bang on regarding the numbers produced. With regards to the small number produced its cool to see we actually have a few of them on this forum...

    Wanted .416 Rigby Bolt Action

I can`t comment too much about the prizing but, this Rigby is not entirely original. It has probably been re-stocked and also refinished at some point. This will of course affect the value. It is however a genuine Rigby with all the goodies exept the stock..the awesome Rigby barrel profile with...

    Rigby Mopani 450 Rigby Rifle

Yup, those gnarly pieces often looks great and can be very strong but they can also have structural weaknesses so we agree totally on that super dense and straight grain is the way to go. 450 Rigby can deal some serious punishment to the wood. I almost wonder if we can have rifles with stocks...

New Find No. 14 Brevex - an Orig Post War John Rigby Big Game Rifle in 416 Rigby Caliber

I think there is more of them. Mine is#6135 and of course in Rigbys fameous book sold dec. 1963. I have never bothered to get certificate of authentisity. Anyways, here it is; True Rigby with all bells&wistles and of course, built on a Brevex magnum action. I’ve seen 3 more I think. Calibre is...

    Rigby Mopani 450 Rigby Rifle

Awesome, crazy gorgeous rifle. But, looks can be deceiving ;P That rifle is not just a beauty queen. Looking at the stock its clear that the wood on this one comes from a walnut tree that probably have lived for 3-400 years in semi desert conditions growing exceptionally dense grain makin it...

New Find No. 14 Brevex - an Orig Post War John Rigby Big Game Rifle in 416 Rigby Caliber

Wow! That is truly a great find indeed! I’ve seen 4 Rigby Big Game built on Brevex Magnum Mauser actions. The earliest built some time in the late 50’s and the latest being from 1965. That it appears one from 1971 is a real surprise and very interesting. Awesome. The Brevex Magnum Mauser actions...

    Rigby Highland Stalker 9.3X62

Absolutely, the irons on the Rigby BG is the best in existence. Some of the cheaper Italian double rifles are regulated by using lazer, not by shooting and adjusting. I suspect the Rigby HS also is regulated by some highly competent gunsmith shooting and adjusting. Thats quality with a big "Q"...

Gotta love a little Karl Gustav

Those CG recoilless rifles are awesome! In the armed service I was at one time shooter and teamleader for those. New Magnum Mauser with or with out thumb cut out

Yup. That`s part of the package deal. M98 is partly designed for 8x57. Having a M98 in 8x57 for open sights use you have a system that can be reloaded quickly with a clip. It will of course work fine with a large range of other calibers as well I believe. I had this one built to fill in the gap...

New Magnum Mauser with or with out thumb cut out

A clip is the kung fu shit of speed loading a Mauser. On lets say a driven wild boar hunt one can run out of ammo quite easily. With a clip you`re back in business in seconds. I´ve never had the use for it till now but I always have a spare clip carrying this rifle. Its an open sights shooter...

Which rifle do we crown as the best looking ever?

Very good! I`ve read somewhere that Brevex factory was set up with the old original Mauser Oberndorf machinery after WWII, so who knows? If they had the old Mauser machinery they probably had the means to make square bridge versions. But then I guess Rigby would have ordered it for their Big...

Which rifle do we crown as the best looking ever?

Nice to see your expert knowledge here rookhawk. I would say that its a Prechtl though. If for no other reason, the bolt handle is different from the Brevex I`ve seen and the Brevex is made of hardened crome moly steel which makes them unsuited for engraving. The steel on the Brevex actions are...

    New Mauser vs New Rigby

Thanks! Its an absolutely gorgeous rifle. I`ve never tried it at distance and have never used the folding sights. Its an old vintage Rigby so I never take it to the range. I want to conserve the barrel as much as possible. It can hit a nail head at 50 meters so I guess its regulated at around...

    New Mauser vs New Rigby

Nice shooting @R eight The open iron sights on the Rigby Big Game is the best there is. It is also the main reason I took the trouble sourcing a vintage Rigby Big Game. It has the best open sight solution of all. There are some small differences on the sights between the vintage and the new...

I don`t call myself accidental Villain here for no reason;p Wifey thinks it suits me fine,, Of course there`s a huge difference between baiting bears in the spring and baiting lion. How dangerous is dangerous hunting?

agreed, absolutely. There is most certainly practical reasons why hunting from a blind is so much used in Europe and with somewhat different, but still practical reasons why "freerange" lion hunts often are done from a blind. I definitely prefer track & stalk myself. Organising bearhunts in...

Ideal African battery on BRNO ZKK actions

@IvW you must keep us updated on your project. Pictures would be appreciated. What barrel profiles and lenghts would you have in the 260Rem 7x57 and 300H&H? I think 260Rem will be a good choice in the ZKK601 , just a little heads up concerning rate of twist as others also have pointed out.

Which rifle do we crown as the best looking ever?

    New Mauser vs New Rigby

My vote would definitely go to the Rigby. The Mauser sure is a superb rifle but the Rigby has unique lines and as pointed out by others features a quarter rib. That makes all the difference for me. Hunting with open iron sights the Rigby quarter rib is by far the best in my opinion.

Welcome to AH! very interesting to see that the 602 sold at Dorleac & Dorleac probably features the replacement trigger and not the common straight trigger. My `67 602 was delivered with a replacement trigger as well as disassembly tool in a small green cloth bag.

    500 Jeffery Recoil?

Could it be your Bertram (Kynoch) cases are too soft? I`ve experienced the same case sticking issues with Kynoch ammo (416 Rigby) so I did some research both on domestic and international sites and found more examples. Also on this forum. Wonder how this ammo would work in a straight pull action?))

    Is a Rigby worth it?

Exactly! +1 Fact is,,the wood you`ll find on several expensive custom guns and also Rigby rifles is extremely strong (usually). Typically, several hundred yrs old Ruglans Regia walnut. The new Rigby rifles I`ve seen has not at all been a disappointment in that respect. Extremely dense and...

Rigby "Big Game" Model in 450 Rigby

The reason why your very nice rifle tips the scale at 11lb is probably because the stock is extremely dense grained. That`s exactly what you want on a hard recoiling rifle ready for decades of hard use. Nice purchase.

My vintage Rigby have a 2mm bead which is original. Works great, also on jumbos at night. Have another spare bead in the pistol grip also 2mm. Great choice btw. Flag safety means that the gun is mainly for open sights and/or reflex sight use. I also prefer the flag safety over anything else...
