I cheated on the Fulvous - Argentina. Also shot a whiteface whistling duck there. Your best bet will be Florida.
Barrows is easy in Alaska and not too difficult in the Pacific Northwest.
King actually isn't hard either if you just get the weather to hunt. However, you're going to be 10K+...
35 is impressive, but getting the last birds takes a commitment of time, money and travel. Everyone in the Dakotas thought it was weird that I ended on the Ross since its not a hard bird to get. It's not hard if you live where they are!
[emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787] I don't even have photos of all of them, much less mounted. Some I shot as a teenager long ago. Here's a couple and the emporer isn't even on the list of 41.
And then there was none.
Just finished the North American 41 with a Ross Goose during the South Dakota spring conservation season. A bit melancholy, but also very satisfying.
I listened to it a few months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it and Sue's perspective. Only complaint I had is I thought the added sound effects were kind of cheesy and took away from the actual content.
Congrats Elio, Beautiful trophy and mount.
May I ask where you were able to hunt this? It is an animal I would like to take in Europe, even if that means an estate hunt.
I guess its just semantics, but I assume you are referring to "harvest tickets," which are required for both residents and non-residents and are always free. Purchase of a separate tag is almost always required for non-residents and usually not required for residents. Even then, I can hunt...
Alaska resident - drive to trailhead and starting walking with $45 license in pocket. I've done the same for mountain goats and moose.
Commercial airline flight and non resident license for anywhere with whitetails.
Point is, everything is relative.
I've been 100% every time I've gone and the weather is no worse than the drawing units. The bad weather comes from the east, so you generally get more huntable days the further west you go. In my experience, the number one factor on a Kodiak hunt for any species is the number of huntable...
The earth would certainly do better if we depopulated the human species by 50%. Of course, leaders who have done such things are not exactly remembered fondly by history.
I just got my skulls back from Australia - They flew on Delta from Brisbane to LAX to SEA. Cleared USDA in LAX. Cleared Customs and USFW in SEA. I used Jennifer House with Coppersmith in Seattle to clear the trophies. I reshipped to Anchorage using Carlile Myconnect.
-- Total for...
I booked through Honolulu when I went, but we needed to schedule 2 separate itineraries to do it since Alaska Air and Air New Zealand don't partner. It created a little hassle when schedule changes happened. I ended up with ANC-SEA-HNL-AKL on the way down and AKL-HNL-ANC on the way back. Had...
If I were going back, I would book with Chris and Peggy Bilkey, Track and Trail Safaris. I hunted with another outfitter in NZ in 2015 and killed my tahr on their property - free range, foot hunt with no helicopter. Spent several days with the Bilkeys in Australia last year - enjoyed...
The Kiwis must really have a thing for cats. When we were hiking down the mountain with my Tahr, my guide suddenly dropped everything, grabbed my rifle and proceeded to blow off half a box of ammo because he saw one across the valley. He eventually got it, but it was the most excitement I saw!
I've used a straight eyepiece for about 20 years including mountain hunting. I tried an angled eyepiece a couple years ago and gave it my best effort. In the end, I hated it and went back to the straight. Definitely a matter of personal preference - hopefully you can try each out before...
Don't forget coot!
I did the emperor the first year it was open to residents as a registration hunt. Personally, I think they should add more non-resident tags since we don't hit the quota anyway. I also think they should end subsistence egg gathering, but what do I know.
Hoping to knock off cinnamon teal and black bellied whistling duck in Mexico in 2 weeks. After that, just white front goose and ross goose. There are some birds that I don't even have photos from when I was a kid, or others where the bird is just in a meat pile. It is what it is...
My story is pretty similar - started in the 80s with no thought of shooting the slam since it wasn't even a thing then. After I moved to Alaska, I suddenly found myself pretty close to being there. I have 4 left and will hopefully be down to 2 by mid-February.
Knocked off king at the...
I am so spoiled hunting in Alaska. Limits of 7, 8 or 10 ducks PLUS 10 seaducks. No species limits except 2 canvasback, 6 harlequin and 6 oldsquaw. Makes life easy.
3 birds short of a one many limit. On original topic - taken with Hevi-X tungsten #4.
