I’m considering booking a hunt for Kamchatka Snow Sheep in 2023 and I’m doing some research. I’ve heard of some people taking a waterproof bag and packing material to bring back salted capes and skulls in their luggage. Does anyone know if this is possible from Russia or is a shipper your only...
I hear ya. I helped my buddy with his Desert hunt last March and it was amazing! I've heard some reasonable prices recently for desert rams. Some have gone at auctions for around 30k which overall is a lot less than a stone. Some desert hunts are just stupid though!
Yeah I've read both the reports. I'm a friend of Mike's and the outfitter he hunted with is one of the ones in the Yukon that I'm considering. I'm actually waiting on them to finish their season so I can have a chat with the owner about future prices.
Stone is definitely more expensive but...
Health shouldn't be a factor. I'm still young (33) and in pretty good shape. I'm leaning stone right now because of one of the reason you stated...how rare it is. That said, it's hard to wait! haha
Ok I've done some more tweaking on my sheep budget and I'm starting to have trouble deciding which sheep hunt I want to do. I know this is a good problem to have and I consider myself very fortunate to be in a position that I'm having to make this decision. Based on my savings plan, I'm...
2/3 of those animals are my buddy's. When I go back, if it's not for buffalo, Lechwe, waterbuck, greater kudu, bushbuck, eland will all be possibilities
I agree that it's a great place for first timers! I also think it'd be a great place to take kids or wives that don't have a lot of experience. Just a fun, low stress environment with a ton of animals!
I can find out the name of the farm I hunted Kudu on but I can tell you it was back towards...
I appreciate that. I did practice a lot but it was the first time I've taken shots like that at animals other than my 1 Barbary I took at 400 in March. I'm glad my kudu had to happen so fast I didn't have a chance to think about it. 415 yds at the angle I was shooting meant it was equivalent...
Thanks Bruce! We were both very thankful that we were shooting so well this trip. Being able to cleanly take animals from 300-450 was the difference in a good and great safari. It was much much harder to get to 250 yds on these than 350 for the most part. The animals were definitely spooky...
Day 9 – Bonus Day – Well it was the last day on the farm for hunting. Both Davis and I were both very satisfied with how things had gone and what animals we had so we considered today a bonus day. I had been considering trying to get an old, heavy, Gemsbok bull to go along with my 36” cow I...
Day 8 – Cape Buffalo at African Field Sports– We woke bright and early in order to get some breakfast and let Davis shoot the 375HH to make sure he was comfortable before heading out to find some buffalo. A few shots later, he was fine with the rifle and we were ready to roll. We were only...
Day 7 – Nyala Day! – Back when I first won this hunt at an RMEF auction, I knew my priority animal was going to be Kudu but I was unsure of what would be next. After a lot of research and talking to people about hunts, I chose Nyala as my second animal to focus on. The more I read about them...
Day 5 – Sable Day! – The night before, over dinner, Richard had informed us that we would be hunting Sable today on a neighbor concession and that Buffalo had also been booked for the last 2 hunt days! First things first though, we had to try and locate the wounded waterbuck. We took everyone...
One thing I forgot to mention…it was at night, the day we got our Kudu that Davis found out that his mom also wanted him to hunt Sable and Buffalo if he was able to make the most of his safari. We discussed it with Richard and he said he’d make phone calls the next day to see what he could...
