    Giraffe question from newbie

Let me add that relatively few people can afford to take home a giraffe trophy. If you live in a town flat you cannot ask your neighbour (living one floor higher) to host the giraffe head, while the neck base sits in your living room.

    Red Meat... Best Hunting Vehicle

I wouldn't dare to compare the Jimny performances with my simple Panda. Jimny has fantastic off road capability! I worked with Iveco (Fiat group) for 27 years therefore, as soon as I live, I am entitled to a good discount. It is a good reason for buying such a large sedan.

How do you sharpen your knife?

I use the Lansky, in the three diamond stones version, as well as a two sided dry stone. I am not fully convinced of the Lansky virtues, due to: -not satisfactory suggested sharpening method; for a long time I followed the leaflet directions to use, resulting in a dull blade; eventually, I...

Chinese interest regarding hunting in Africa

    A. Austin, before looking for customers I suggest you pass the exams to become a PH and get acquainted with that world. In this way you will learn which language is more useful to communicate with customers as well as local people (trackers, skinners, cooks a.s.o.). It is probable that Matabele...

Mauser -Werke model 66 3 barrel set

A question to Mauser 66 rifle owners and/or experts: -how is the front sight mounted in its base, legthwise or crosswise? I am asking on behalf of a friend who lost front sight and tunnel after a fall in the forest. The sight base oh his "Stutzen" (full stock) has a lengthwise slot, while the...

    Dangerous Game Scope

I have no experience with any Meopta, therefore I don't comment them. I possess a Z6 Swarovski with illuminated reticle. Sako Super Hammerheads 150 grain 308

Mark Hunter, although your comments about Barnes effect on roe seem theoretically sound, I cannot agree with you in concluding "not for light game". What are the legal minimum caliber restrictions for big game in your neck of the woods?

In Italy the national law imposes: -centerfire rifles, with a bullet minimum diameter of 5,6 mm and case minimum length of 40 mm -no minimum caliber for ungulates. Regional laws include minimum caliber for red deer and wildboar (e.g. in some places .270 Win.) In the region where I live and hunt...

Bubba, the cartridge dimensions are available in the -CIP site https://www.cip-bobp.org/en -SAAMI site https://saami.org/ The two measuring systems are slightly different. If you plan to use US made ammo go with SAAMI, if you prefer European or British ammo use CIP.

The One That Got Away (From Me)

"Scientists of all kind that most of them never encountered a weapon before" should never be issued a weapon without suitable training. In case of contact with a bear, the team would face a double danger, the beast and the scientist.

A good and well written story Hunter Habib. Two questions about your guns and ammunition: -what was the cause of the 12 bore misfire? Action Screws Tightening Torque

Brian, I have no intention to start a fight about the angel sex, however here is a picture of a Mannliche Schoenauer "Stutzen". I admit that the Gewehr 88 was produced by OeWG, not by Mr. Mannlicher.

    Action Screws Tightening Torque

Thanks Brian, I know that "Mannlicher style" is a misnomer. The mistake is due to the fact that many fully stocked "Gewehr 88" in 8x57 (without "S"), sold as surplus in the U.S. were produced by Mannlicher.

Hippo poaching on the rise for their ivory as demand rises due to less elephant ivory being available
