SOUTH AFRICA: Somerby Safaris 2018 Dont Get Much Better!

Couldn’t agree more about Drom and the entire Somerby crew. That’s an awesome buffalo. We also hunted with them in 2018. I killed a good Nyala at the same place as your kudu. What a sweet spot right on the river! Didn’t hunt with Chates but did spend a few days in camp with him and Lindi.

I think you were as stressed/questioning that shot as I did the waterbuck. What a great critter and to be take. In the same spot as your Nyala is awesome.

SOUTH AFRICA: First African Safari With Somerby Safaris

Definitely eland and probably sable. We had planned to try and chase duikers but that didn’t work out this trip. Mostly because we decided to chase Nyala instead. @LegalEagle bought a .375 after we got back so something big and black might be on the menu as well.

SOUTH AFRICA: First African Safari With Somerby Safaris

Now that horns and hides have shipped from Africa here is a way overdue hunting report. It all began in January of 2017 when my BIL @LegalEagle and I met Drom and the Somerby Safari crew At the KC SCI show. @LegalEagle and I would both turn 40 in 2018 and what better way to celebrate than a...

What does "take what Africa gives you" mean to you?

@LegalEagle and I are just a few days from wheels up for our first Safari. Ive been contemplating this statement..."take what Africa gives you." What does that mean for the decision making process when deciding to squeeze or not squeeze the trigger. Do you decide which ones are must haves...

REPORT: Universal Trophy Services Mixed Review

Sorry about your experience. This isn't very comforting as this is the dip and pack/ taxidermist used by our outfitter. Our plan was to have them dip and pack then ship to Dennisfor taxidermy work. Headed to SA in a couple weeks. Looks like we need to be prepared to have a good chat with our...

How many critters will 2 guys typically take

Thanks for all comments. Its our first trip. We both have Kudu and waterbuck high on the list but otherwise the list are pretty different. I really want to take a good bushbuck. Planning some night jackal and porcupine hunting. We should have a lot of different hunts and be opportunistic on...

How many critters will 2 guys typically take

hunting 2x1 on a 10-day hunt if they select quality mature animals? Neither @LegalEagle or I are terribly blood thirsty hunters but we are definitely going to pull the trigger. We will be spot n stalk rifle hunting in the western part of Limpopo and northwestern portion of Free State. I know...

REPORT: Has Anyone Any Experience With Universal Trophy Services?

Thank you all. I will look it to Swift Dip as well. We will be in the NW part of the Limpopo not far from them for the first 6 days of our hunt so they would be reasonable close.

    Ammo in checked bag

quick question...I hope. We are flying delta to Johanaseburg. How do we need to secure our ammo in our checked bag? Clearly in a box similar to manufacturer where each cartridge is not touching. Should they go in a locked box or just in the bag? If in a locked box do we use TSA locks or...

Flights booked for our first trip to Africa

We'll be using good bullets. Between the two of us we have interest in most of the common plains game: kudu, eland, waterbuck, blue wildebeest, gemsbok, zebra, Impala, bushbuck, and common duiker are on at least of of our lists. But we'll be rolling what Africa gives us, at least to a extent.

Taking your own rifle: Is it worth the hassle?
