    General opinion on .416 Taylor?

Ok. Lets have a look in the books again... .416 WBM holds 140gr H2O and have Pmax 65KPSI .416 Rigby holds 127.8gr H2O and have Pmax 52KPSI 12.2gr H2O difference and 7KPSI is this not quite different specs? I would almost think it was based on something else. Ok please have a look at the .378...

    General opinion on .416 Taylor?

I think we can only agree to disagree unfortunately Sestoppelman. I will never go above SAAMI or CIP Pmax. But if you have the knowledge and equipment to do it safely why not? We can argue to the bitter end and still dont agree.

    General opinion on .416 Taylor?

I made a mistake about the 308win maxP for some reason I looked at the one above on the list, 308 Marlin Express. The rest I'm going to stand for. Please have a look at factory loads from the same make using the same bullets and I quite sure that they are working with in +- 50fps, is that only...

    General opinion on .416 Taylor?

The 30-06 has a higher max pressure than the 308, it also have a bigger volume so you got that one right. The good old Rigby have a bigger casing volume perfect for the gun powders available at that time, but 7000 PSI lower max pressure than the Taylor that can take advantage of faster powders...

    General opinion on .416 Taylor?

Bos Javanicus, I might didn't make may point clear. We are hawing the same opinion, only one level of being dead and thats dead. So the few fps extra isn't giving that big difference. The first of my post was to Sestoppleman because of him using the same loaded pressures to compare the 2 against...

    General opinion on .416 Taylor?

Loaded to the same pressure the Rigby "wins" but whats the max pressure in Rigby V.S Taylor? According to SAMI the Rigby have 52000 PSI and the Taylor 65000 PSI. And in the Rigby that gives you 2370 fps with a 400gr bullet, strangely enough 65000PSI in the Taylor gives you 2370 fps with a 400gr...

    General opinion on .416 Taylor?

The "point" with the Taylor is to be able to have a shorter action (the old faithful 30-06 OAL is 3.34" 85 mm) OAL 3.34" 85 mm (the old faithful 30-06 OAL is 3.34" 85 mm) and you can use a 23" 580mm long barrel and still get reasonable V0. According to Ken Waters an absolute maximum load of...

    .416 Taylor

Good news, Norma is now loading the .416 Taylor with a 375gr "Norma Solid" @2350-fps that gives 4600/ft.-lb. at the muzzle and 3403/ft.-lb. at 110 Yards (converted from 100 meters to Yards) Momentum @Muzzle 17.400

    416 Woodleigh's?

Sorry for being a bit quick on the trigger... .416 Remington is also loaded with the same bullet and V0 2150-fps

    416 Woodleigh's?

Norma loads their "Norma African PH" in .416 Rigby with a 450gr SP Woodleigh @2150-fps and the Woodleigh 450gr fmj @2150-fps for the same impact. So if you want to load a SP or 2 first and the next ones with FMJ for more penetration, you stil have close to the same impact as the SP V/S FMJ

    I have one chance

Load your rifle with the Nosler Partitions or some Barnes TSX/TX in .223 and let him get used to the gun during target training on various ranges and situations. I remember i was allowed to shoot my grandpa's single shot .223 on different targets in the forest and gained some "real" experience...

    Precision Ammunition

    You can choose between 500gr Norma Solid (V0-640m/s-2100fps) and 500gr Swift A-Frame (V0-645m/s-216fps) from Norma in .458WM. .375 H&H-M you have 270gr Barnes TSX @V0 800m/s. 2625fps 300gr Norma Solid @V0 777m/s. 2550fps 300gr Swift A-Frame @V0 780m/s. 2559fps 300gr Norma Oryx @V0 780m/s...

    .416 Taylor

Hi everyone and thanks for all the good answers. I have to (sadly) agree on the poor ammo availability worldwide when I am traveling to "remote" places and the ammo is still stuck somewhere else. Maybe another calibre would be smarter as some of you recommends. @PHOENIX PHIL, thanks for the...

    .416 Taylor

The hot V.S cold climate is might a problem on paper in real life? as many other gun related "facts" I don't know. Thanks for your reply anyway :) It does not seem to be the most common caliber used for hunting so I might need to make my one path and learn about it the hard way ;)

    .416 Taylor

I was looking for a big game rifle for Moose and bear and was offered a cheap .416 Taylor with a Mauser mechanism and it fits me like a shotgun. The Taylor also fits in a shorter action than the legendary .416 Rigby, and I can have a shorter barrel in theory since the smaller casing volume in...

    .416 Taylor

Hi everyone, I have never owned a "big-bore" rifle myself but is planning to buy one in .416 Taylor. Does anyone have knowledge about this calibre? The wise choice would probably be to purchase a 375 h&h. Is the .416 Taylor a bad choice for hunting in Africa, I will start with plains game and...
