I’m a fan of swift bullets and been a fan for years…but, Bill had had production issues for years and will continue to do so unless he moves manufacturing to a bigger town. He’s exhausted everyone in his area.
Until he does I will continue buying North Fork and Cutting Edge bullets. They work...
Interesting question for sure. I believe a 500 NE delivering a 570 grain bullet at 2150 FPS is incredibly effective and when regulated properly is plenty of rifle to take any animal on the planet.
The 505 Gibbs and 500 Jeff are in a different league of stopping rifles with more shots available...
Most of these are scam websites and would strongly advise against using these websites. One only has to do a quick search to read countless negative reviews about people falling victim to this scam.

Thank you for the kind words on the Heym. The scope I have picked on the pictured detachable mounts is a Swarovski Z8i 1.7-13.3x42 - 4A-IF.
I am starting with Van Gruff’s load of:
400 grain Swift A-Frame
84 grains of H4350
400 grain North Fork Solid
83.7 grains of H4350
I plan on starting my...
I can only speculate but since we in the USA have had to wait so long for cans (that are bought over the counter virtually everywhere else) the flood gates have opened with the demand from people who no longer have to wait. The problem now is the manufacturers have to increase production based...
I’m flying Business Class to Namibia in July and heading through Frankfurt and on to Windhoek on Lufthansa.
11 1/2 hours to Frankfurt
6 hour layover
10 1/2 hours to Windhoek
Same flights back with only 3 hour layover.

You are rolling the dice with British Airways. Cost me 3 days and a ton of money with their bull sh+t this past year. With your options I would go Delta.

I agree on these scope choices 1x8 gives you the best of both worlds. At a 100 Yards you can crank it up as much as you need to and still gives you plenty of time to crank it down if a charge from that distance occurs. I use the Swarovski 1x8 illuminated.

I respect everyone’s individual way they choose to hunt as long as it’s legal.
In Africa I have hunted from the back of a truck during a large cull operation(200 springbok, impala, zebra) all females. It was good trigger time but more work than I anticipated as all meat was used.
Other than that...
Thanks for all the kind words and I’m really starting to get excited about the 404’s impending arrival.
I was able to find the original sketch that the engraver did for the Buffalo and I’m adding it to the thread for review. I think his engraving came remarkably close to the mockup.

Just when we thought it wouldn’t happen again here comes the onslaught of crazy ballistics for the extreme hand loaders out there…stirring the pot and tongue firmly in cheek…458Lott is far superior to 458WM and it’s not even debatable:-)

I’ve never complained about rifle weight in Africa and 13 1/2 to 14 is correct for a 577NE. Now when Sheep hunting every ounce counts and light rifles is the norm.

Lots of good information here. Botswana is a great place for what you’re looking for but SA and Namibia are traditionally going to be less costly.
Whatever you do go after Eland first as upon success you will be feasting on my favorite game animal. Good luck on your search.

Congratulations on a beautiful rifle!
I am about 12-18 months behind you on the delivery of my Heym 577. I look forward to your future posts on the load workup and results.
Happy hunting with that beast!

North Fork makes excellent bullets and have used them on 2 different hunts with perfect performance. I understand several custom hand loading companies in the USA have started loading these bullets for us.
