I read a number of the previous post on the best scope selection for Cape buffalo. Allot of people understandably recommend scopes with illuminated reticles. I understand the advantagesand illuminated reticle offers a hunter, I haven't researched how long illuminated reticles have been...
Following my last post, I wanted to update you on my progress, or should I say none progress made with the Iron sights, I approach a few gunsmiths. After being palmed off or redirected I ended up corresponding with an experienced gunsmith in the UK, the problem would be having to export the rile...

I am planning on hunting Cape buffalo with the rifle, I have both the reflex and the 1-6 scope on QD mounts allowing me to interchange the optics, I am going to stick with the 1-6 scope its more practical than the reflex sight. I will keep the reflex sight as back up or If I wanted to use it for...
The scope has an illuminated reticle, I love the rifle, it's very accurate so every chance I get I am down the range practicing but I do need to dial the scope down to 1 try shooting with both eyes open!
The advantages of living in a country with a big game hunting traditional! Thank you for the recommendation. I already selected the express style sights and had a guy who was going to install them in Namibia this year. The pandemic put a stop to those plans, not being able to travel, etc. I...
Due to the recoil, I mainly shoot my .375H&H standing, and I find the recoil manageable and can I produce decent groups. I haven't tried shooting the rifle with my head raised. I can't imagine it been a pleasant experience! I understand the 5.56 with a muzzle break allows you to tilt the AR and...
I live In Eire, it’s a sako 75 stainless synthetic I picked it up SH it has very little use. The .375HH is a restricted caliber here so there aren’t many floating around.
My rifle doesn't have iron sights, I was looking to have express style iron sights installed, but I am yet to find a domestic gunsmith that can help me, I have my reflex sight, and my 1-6 variable powered scope on QD mounts. I read about people using them both, while the appearance is not in...
Thank you for your insight, so keep it simple, my scope is 1-6 power with QD mounts, and the reflex sight is on a QD base, so I have the option in selecting either.

Thank you for all the advice, I think it would be wise to install the iron sights and be properly prepared. I certainly wouldn’t like the idea of following up a leopard or any type dangerous game and feeling over exposed. I am going to looking into installing ghost ring sights.
I recently picked up a sako 75 .375HH, the rifle doesn’t have iron sights, I do intend on hunting buffalo with the rifle, I have a 1-6x24 scope with QD mounts. I understand the advantage of Iron sights in thick bush where a close encounters is possible. My question before I send the rifle off to...
Hi Philip, yes, I left them there. The strange thing is the trophies from my first and last trip are perfect, the trophies from the second trip that appear to have been exposed to the sun for some time. Lesson learned! I am going to try a beeswax and linseed oil, but the black wildebeest is...
Hi,
I apologize in advance for a bit of a long-winded post. I am looking for advice, about the condition of my trophies that I received from my outfitter. The background was back in 2016. I went to the eastern cape South Africa for a plains game hunt. The hunting conservancy was spectacular...
Thanks for the warm welcoms and suggestions, the 7x57 would be a close match to the 6.5x55 but you have the option of a heavier bullet so with a 170 grain bullet you have about 10% more energy at 300 yards! I haven't really consider the 308 because I already have the 30-06 but it's something to...
I wanted to get a bit of real world advice on the 6.5X55, I am in the market for a new rifle(trading in my .243) so I am looking for a calibre that has adequate velocity and energy out to 400 yards and will result in relativity quick death of game up to 300lb, taking into account proper shot...
