I suspect it is a bit hard and needs annealing for the neck and shoulder splits. Don't think it would help for case head separation though. I would go back to a chamber cast and work from there.

I would do a chamber cast before doing anything else. Some brass will not work well (I have had poor results with S&B splitting necks in this calibre) no matter what you do, but case head separations are a whole other concern.

Looking at what is around, it might be easier to find a 12/12/7x57R (or 7x65R?) and have a 9.3x74R insert fitted.

You will find that the VX-5 and VX-6 ranges from Leupold contain choices for straight tube scopes that wind down to 1x and up to 5x and 6x respectively. I have a Meopta and it works well, these Leupolds are the best from current production models. Vortex have a strike eagle with a 1-8x...

Shoot two rounds, cool completely - like half an hour or more. More often than that and you will find the shots climbing.

Having had mixed results buying bargain combo/drillings, if it floats your boat, buy it. I find them very good for mixed game from a fixed position (stand, high seat etc) and prefer them nowadays. I also prefer them for ducks, as they are a little heavier and swing more consistently.

I would think shooting as a 308 would be just fine, stick 180Gr Hydros in it and shoot buffalo :cool:

Excellent report. Shirley advised me the other day that they don’t intend to produce the 232Gr 9.3 or 235Gr .375 Hydro as they are too low volume. I asked how many they would need and haven’t had an answer yet. I hope they do, I prefer the lower weights for my applications.

Also, Hydros are available now.

Apparently the market has been shifting to Russia and SE Asia for a while, but it’s quite sad for the UK. Replica makers will offer some hope, but frankly I don’t know whether it’s better to keep hunting overseas and have replicas made, or hunt in Scotland and the like while you still can.
